Chapter 198: Chapter 194: No One Is a Fool!

Toone was taken aback!

What’s he on about?

If you’re not happy with the price, you could haggle, not just pack up and leave!

Feeling uncomfortable to voice the request himself, he turned his attention to George, begging him with his eyes for help.

George hastily jumped in:

"Sean, are you not satisfied with Mr. Toone’s offer? He’s usually fair..."

"No."

As Sean packed his things, he said:

"I’ve had an offer this morning."

Having packed everything up, he then turned to George and said:

"The offer I got was five times that of this so-called ’fair’ Mr. Toone. It was only out of respect for you that I came to see him, and yet..."

Hearing Sean’s words, George felt a mix of joy and anger!

He was thrilled that Sean gave him the proper respect, saying he came here because of him.

Of course, it’s most likely that Sean was hoping to get more offers for comparison.

What angered him was, did this Toone guy think everyone else was a fool?

He had warned Toone in advance that Sean is extraordinarily capable, it would be best to maintain a good relationship with him to gain an advantage in future collection purchases.

Is Toone an idiot?

Or did he think everyone else was an idiot!

Toone felt wronged!

Who in this business doesn’t want to find a bargain, huh?

If the opponent fell for it, wouldn’t he make a profit?

Haggling for the price, after all, there’s always a give-and-take!

Hearing Sean’s words, he couldn’t help but blurt out:

"No way! At five times the price, that person wouldn’t make any profit!"

Both Sean and George turned to look at him, their gaze implicitly full of criticism!

Clearly, these words showed that Toone indeed was fully aware of the price of the gold and silver coins.

And he absolutely did intend treating Sean as a fool.

Sean gestured to George:

"Goodbye, Mr. George."

With that, he left.

It’s better to have limited dealings with such people.

George hurriedly followed him out, explaining for a good while that he had no prior knowledge of this.

Sean stated his understanding, then left.

Thinking that these items were useless sitting around, Sean drove to Smith’s store.

Smith was busy helping a man authenticate a flag when he saw Sean. He greeted Sean with a smile and signaled him to wait by pointing at a chair nearby.

Sean’s gaze, however, fell on the flag the client wanted to authenticate.

Because it had the Chinese characters for "The Flying Tigers" written on it!

The Flying Tigers flag!

How did this thing end up here?

Seeing Sean’s interest, Smith told him about the history of the flag.

The big-bearded man who brought the flag for authentication had acquired it from someone else.

The original owner of the flag was an old man who reportedly found it in a junk warehouse after buying a house.

The old man didn’t think the flag was of any use, but felt the workmanship was good, so he kept it, occasionally propping it up with a stick.

The big-bearded man was the old man’s neighbor. One day he saw the flag, knew about the Flying Tigers, recognized the Chinese characters, and bought it for a hundred dollars.

"Is it real?" Sean leaned in to get a closer look. The flag was made of silk. It was about the size of an ordinary pennant, and looked much the same.

Aside from the Flying Tigers’ Chinese characters embroidered on it, there were also a series of English names.

"As far as I know, it’s genuine," Smith explained. "During the period when the Foreign Aid Volunteer Aviation Team was fighting in China, there was a time when every member had a flag embroidered for them by Chinese people. This is one of those flags.

Presumably, a member of the Flying Tigers left it at home after returning, and it was forgotten or lost when they moved."

Sean knew about this history. He suddenly asked the big-bearded man:

"How much are you asking for it?"

The big-bearded man could see that Sean wanted to buy it, but he still looked at Smith first.

Sean was being somewhat impulsive, essentially cutting in line.

But Smith got Sean’s intention and smilingly said to the big-bearded man:

"You make your offer. It’s the same for him to buy it as it is for me."

"I think it should be worth three thousand dollars."

"I will buy it for a thousand dollars." Sean was interested in the flag for its commemorative significance, he had no intention of being overcharged.

"Deal!" The big-bearded man responded briskly.

Sean was taken aback. He didn’t expect the big-bearded man to ask such a high price!

Nevertheless, a thousand dollars didn’t mean much to Sean. He paid without hesitation. The big-bearded man left elated. Smith called over other counter attendants and took Sean into the back room.

"That flag, if you find the right collector, five thousand dollars would be a fair price," Smith mentioned casually.

"I plan to keep it for myself," Sean explained, carefully folding the flag and placing it in his backpack.

Smith chuckled but didn’t speak further, instead asking:

"What brings you by this time..."

Sean took out the gold coins, silver coins, and documents he had collected from his backpack and laid them out on the table.

Upon seeing them, Smith’s face lit up. He turned to Sean and said:

"I’ll definitely give you a fair price!"

Although he hadn’t known Sean for very long, he knew that every so often Sean would bring in something astonishing.

Therefore, he had long treated Sean as a high-profile client, offering very fair prices.

Because he knew that Sean would have a lot of items for sale every time, so even if he made a slight profit on each, the cumulative would be a lot!

Sean poured out the gold and silver coins, and after Smith counted them, he quoted Sean a round figure of six million dollars.

Sean nodded in agreement. Indeed, it was more than five times the price that Toone had offered!
