Chapter 168: Chapter 167: Our opponents have already surpassed us, what about us?

Sean Knight pointed at the vacant land and said:

"I feel like there’s something here, we need to dig and see."

Penson Smith was somewhat puzzled:

"Don’t you need to use the detector?"

"I don’t need that thing." Sean put down his backpack and began to dig.

Elijah Hastings tried to help, but Sean stopped him, saying:

"You go to the beach and get some seafood. By the time we dig up something, it’ll be time for lunch. We’ll have stewed seafood for noon."

Elijah agreed and headed to the beach.

Penson asked the bodyguard beside him:

"What did they say?"

Assistant said: "Catch seafood."

Penson was somewhat annoyed.

Was this Sean so unreliable? Were they here to play?

Sean could see that Penson was emotional, and while digging, he said:

"Actually, treasure hunting is a gradual process. You can’t rush it; each time you dig something up, it may lead to a clue. It’s like assembling a puzzle. You don’t necessarily need to find the final piece, just the most critical one."

Penson thought to himself, I’ll believe you; after all, who else says they’re a professional?

Looking up at the cloudless sky, Penson regained his confidence in Sean.

Sean kept digging until he was over a meter deep but hadn’t found anything.

At first, Penson had the bodyguard help Sean, and he even tried it himself.

However, after a while, he threw down his shovel and went to get seafood with Elijah.

Although Penson had gone fishing many times on the boat, he rarely went out to catch seafood like this.

With no one around to watch, Penson initially looked down on the small crabs and octopuses, but later he ran after Elijah to catch them.

Sean looked down from above and saw Penson catching seafood by the beach and shook his head.

A man never loses his youthfulness.

Thinking of his grandfather, who at eighty still went to the seaside to cast nets and fish, caught a few and still enjoyed it like a child, Sean thought of how simple happiness could be.

Seeing the pit he had dug over a meter deep, Sean threw the shovel and went down to the beach to have fun with them.

At noon, they had a seafood stew.

It was Penson’s first time eating such a dish, and he found it novel.

While fishing for a crab and learning from Elijah how to eat it, he asked Sean:

"Aren’t you worried that those people might find the treasure first?"

Sean shook his head and said:

"It’s useless to worry on such a big island. I can’t possibly search everywhere at once. We’ll have to rely on luck."

Penson smiled and said nothing.

He envied Sean’s casual attitude and decided to let it go. After all, it didn’t matter which team found the treasure; it would still belong to him.

After eating their fill, Sean went back to digging with Elijah’s help, while Penson took in the nearby scenery. In less than half an hour, he heard Sean shouting:

"Mr. Penson, come and take a look; there’s something."

Penson had already calmed down, not expecting Sean to find anything so quickly, and was prepared for no gains today.

But now Sean called out, giving Penson a little surprise.

He quickly climbed up the slope, and Sean pointed to the hole for Penson to see.

There was a corner of a box visible in the pit, not yet completely unearthed.

Upon seeing the old box, Penson immediately exclaimed excitedly:

"Is it real?"

He jumped straight into the pit and began digging with a shovel.

Sean didn’t stop him; after all, it wasn’t in their home country, so there were no concerns about preserving relics or cultural artifacts.

Penson’s strength was impressive, and he quickly dug the box out.

The wooden box, wrapped in metal, wasn’t entirely decaying. Penson carefully pulled the box out and placed it on the flat ground above.

"Open it." Penson’s excitement had subsided, so he climbed out of the hole, took out a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped off the dirt, returning to his usual elegance.

Sean used the shovel to roughly knock off the lock on the box and pry open the lid.

Inside the box were several gold, silver, and bronze pieces.

They all appeared to be very old items – wine pots, plates, candlesticks, and a small pouch of gold coins. The pouch holding the gold coins had decayed, and the coins had spilled into the box, occasionally catching the light.

"Not bad at all!" Penson was delighted. "These things must have been stolen by the pirates of that era and hidden away. There really are a lot of good things on this island!"

They closed the box and tied it up with a rope, leaving one person to watch over it while Sean led the others forward.

They came across two more pits, but the items they dug up were rather awkward – the boxes had rotted, the porcelain items inside shattered, and the spices had decayed, rendering them worthless.

Penson managed to keep his cool and didn’t show any disappointment.

As the sky gradually darkened, Sean looked at a flat platform and asked,

"Should we camp here for the night?"

"Alright," Penson thought for a moment before replying, "Going back would be too troublesome, and returning here tomorrow would waste half a day."

That night, Penson used his satellite phone to ask the other team about their progress. They replied that they had already climbed to the highest point of the island, found their target location, and planned to investigate it early the next morning.

Elijah went to help bring back the person guarding the box, along with the box itself.

Having seafood for dinner again didn’t feel as enjoyable any more.

Early the next day, Elijah woke up early to go fishing and cooked a seafood porridge that Penson couldn’t stop praising.

After packing up, Sean led the group forward.

The terrain grew increasingly high, with the sandy beach being replaced by a cliffside covered in plants.

Penson looked at Sean and asked,

"Is there any more chance to find something further up?"

The previous locations where they had unearthed items had harbored bays and sandy beaches, with at least a large or small boat being able to get there.

Now they had reached the cliffside – would a boat be able to reach them here?

Sean smiled and replied,

"Perhaps the person who buried the treasure was relying on this exact line of thinking? Going against the norm might not be impossible."

Penson thought it made sense, so he followed Sean in climbing the mountain.

As for the box, they called a bodyguard to transport it back.

They climbed until noon without finding anything, but at least they had reached the clifftop.

At that moment, Penson’s satellite phone rang.

"What? You found it?"

Penson had a surprised look on his face,

"What did you find?"

The voice from the satellite phone was loud, and Sean could hear it too.

"...We found an underground cavity, and the metal detector revealed a large quantity of metal reactions from the surface. We currently know of the presence of iron, copper, and a portion of gold and silver..."

The other party was very excited, so it seemed they had made a genuine discovery.

"...Mr. Penson, if you haven’t found anything over there, I sincerely invite you to come over and witness our excavation process..."

Penson looked at Sean, who smiled and said,

"Why don’t you just go? I can’t guarantee that I’ll make any discoveries going forward."

After thinking for a moment, Penson ultimately replied to the other party,

"I won’t be coming over. You all proceed with the excavation as planned. If there are any updates, report to me immediately!"
