Road to becoming the wealthiest: Starting From Treasure Hunting in the Cabinets -
Chapter 169 - 168: Is This Guess Correct?
Chapter 169: Chapter 168: Is This Guess Correct?
After hanging up the phone, Penson Smith chuckled and said to Sean Knight:
"Actually, I still prefer being with you guys; it’s fun and the treasure hunt is way more enjoyable than what I had imagined."
Well, it seems he’s got a playful side too.
Sean shrugged and moved forward.
As they circled around the cliffside, Sean suddenly stopped.
He pointed at the bottom of the cliff and said to Penson:
"What do you think, is it possible that there’s a cave down here that could allow a boat to pass through? The treasure might be hidden inside."
The others paused for a moment.
Sean continued:
"I remember seeing something like that in a movie."
"Why don’t we just go check it out?" Elijah Hastings was a man of action.
"Can you manage?" Sean asked.
"Sure." Elijah quickly put down his backpack and took off his clothes. He found a relatively low spot and jumped into the water.
"Is treasure-hunting always this casual with you?" Penson asked, "It doesn’t feel like we’re looking for treasure; it feels more like we’re... "
"Just wandering around blindly?" Sean didn’t mince words. "Playing it by ear?"
"Exactly." Penson thought about the other team: professional tools like metal detectors; specialized equipment like hanging ornaments and ropes; designated roles like treasure-hunters, appraisers, and guides.
Sean was nothing like that.
"It’s a Chinese approach." Sean bluffed, "Thousands of years of knowledge passed down in China, it’s not easy to explain to you."
In other words, you guys are country bumpkins.
Penson didn’t understand, and Sean secretly chuckled.
"The Sixteen-Character Yin-Yang Feng Shui Secret Technique, right?" Suddenly a voice chimed in. They turned and saw that Elijah had already come back.
"How was it?" Sean asked, but quickly followed up with, "Do you read Ghost Blows Out the Light too?"
"Oh, definitely." Elijah wiped his face and said:
"As you said, there is indeed a passage down there, a seawater passage, about this wide... two meters, I’d say."
He gestured and continued:
"A big ship definitely won’t fit, but a small one might barely manage. The entrance is covered in plants; you wouldn’t spot it unless you looked closely."
"That works." Sean turned to Penson and said, "I think we may find something interesting inside, although it might be challenging to enter."
Penson’s attention was on something else, and he stuttered:
"Six-teen... what’s that Yin-Yang thing?"
Sean was at a loss for words. Shouldn’t Penson be more concerned about the treasure?
"It’s a book on Feng Shui." Elijah grinned mischievously.
"Feng Shui?" Penson heard the words once more and became very interested, thinking it was high-end stuff.
Sean was frustrated by the off-topic conversation!
"Mr Penson, I think we might make a remarkable discovery in there, so we should focus on how to get in!"
With no choice but to let go of that thought for now, Penson returned to the main issue:
"If it’s two meters wide, we could either use a small assault boat or dive in."
"Let’s use the assault boat." Sean was straightforward. "I’m not familiar with diving, and I don’t like going underwater. Who knows what we might encounter in there."
Since Sean had made it clear, Penson didn’t say anything further and let his bodyguard call for the big ship.
Penson explained to Sean:
"There are small assault boats on the big ship. They can hold two people, and we have four of them."
That’s plenty enough.
As they waited, Penson started asking about the Sixteen-Character Yin Yang Feng Shui Secret Technique again. Sean remained silent, directing a look at Elijah.
Meaning: deal with the trouble you caused yourself.
Elijah Hastings had no choice but to abandon his usual aloof demeanor, knowing he couldn’t admit that the information was from a fictional book. Instead, he combined the knowledge he had gained from Sean Knight with what he already knew and managed to bluff his way through a series of explanations.
Penson Smith, believing him, was obviously impressed.
Of course, it was also due to Penson’s interests. Under different circumstances and in a different environment, there was no way Penson would have been fooled by Elijah.
Half an hour later, the big ship arrived, dropping off three assault boats – one towing the other two behind it.
Upon reaching their destination, Sean and the others boarded the boats. Elijah led the way, hacking away at the plants with his machete in front of the cliffside to reveal the cave entrance.
It was about two meters square, with the depth of the water below immeasurable. The water level was close to the top, reaching almost two meters.
Once they turned on the lights and entered, they moved slowly, and the sound of the waves quickly faded away.
Sean thought that people with a fear of darkness and enclosed spaces wouldn’t stand a chance in this place.
Looking up, the ceiling grew lower, and Sean observed the bodyguards maneuvering the assault boat quite skillfully. He decided to practice his own skills later.
Being proficient in more skills was always beneficial in crucial moments.
The terrain got lower to the point where the people on the boat had to bend down to pass through, but it didn’t continue getting lower.
However, occasionally, some stalactites almost reached the water, obstructing the progress of the boat.
The water temperature seemed to be rising.
Did that mean there were hot springs or volcanic vents up ahead?
The cave walls on both sides were covered with moss, and occasionally small critters crawled past. Sean took a closer look and noticed that most of these creatures were blind or had very limited sight.
Now and then, bioluminescent organisms flickered in the darkness, but they were not very bright.
Finally, after about twenty minutes, the view opened up, and the air became even more humid and hot.
The speed of the assault boat increased, and the roaring engine disturbed the underwater creatures. Sean could feel things bumping against the bottom of the boat, but thankfully, they weren’t strong impacts.
Eventually, they came across an underground lake the size of two or three basketball courts!
There was something churning beneath the water, and Sean guessed it was a seafloor hot spring because there was steam rising from the surface.
The water temperature had indeed increased significantly.
The number of creatures nearby had substantially diminished.
"Look ahead!" One of the bodyguards at the front yelled, pointing at the lakeside:
"There are stairs over there, and a platform above them!"
The sound echoed in the surrounding area, and the bodyguard realized he had spoken out of turn and promptly fell silent.
However, everyone had already seen the gentle slope along the lakeside with a series of simple stone steps leading upward.
"Let’s go over there!" Sean said.
Although Penson was present, Sean was still in charge of the treasure hunt.
So no one thought Sean’s command was out of place, and the three assault boats proceeded towards the shore.
Once on land, they secured the assault boats and climbed up the stone stairs.
There was a roughly made platform where several boxes were placed.
The lids of the boxes were strewn about in a disorderly fashion.
There were jars for wine and bags for spices. After a brief glance, everyone’s attention shifted to the front.
In front of them was a natural cave, not very large, about two meters tall and five or six meters wide.
Inside, many boxes were packed tightly together!
Sean stepped back and said to Penson with a smile:
"This should be the objective of our journey!"
Penson’s eyes were filled with astonishment!
He didn’t expect it to be so easy to find?
One of Penson’s bodyguards suddenly approached, but Sean warned him:
"Wait! Don’t be impulsive!"
The bodyguard merely looked at Sean but did not slow down.
It was hard to persuade a desperate person!
