Chapter 1329: Chapter 656 The Sky is Falling!_2

Just when a few large penguins happened to be nearby, one of them stepped on the thieving seagull underfoot!

As another group of penguins waddled away, Sean Knight also felt that it was getting late.

Looking at the little penguin at his feet that was already drowsy, Sean Knight sighed, bent down to pick it up, and headed back.

"I’ll come back tomorrow, hoping to find its parents."

Sean Knight’s pace was fast but steady. The little penguin in his arms only stirred slightly before falling back asleep.

Clearly, it was very satisfied with Sean Knight’s warm embrace.

When he arrived back at the Base, Sean Knight was surprised to find that there weren’t many people around.

Upon entering his room, Sean Knight saw Lincoln Harrington was there, Judy Morris too, along with two others, but one person was missing.

"You’re back?" Judy Morris greeted Sean Knight politely as she was drinking her coffee.

Sean Knight could feel that Judy Morris’s politeness contained a hint of aloofness.

Probably because of his answer yesterday that left her dissatisfied.

Sean Knight unbuttoned his coat and then took out the small penguin.

"Oh my!" Judy Morris placed her much-cherished coffee cup on the table and almost lunged over, exclaiming, "How did you bring this little cutie back... It’s really too cute... all fluffy... "

"Its parents are missing," Sean Knight said while holding the little penguin, making no move to hand it over to Judy. "And some thieving seagulls were eyeing it. If I hadn’t brought it back with me, it might already be digesting in a seagull’s stomach."

Judy Morris glanced at Sean Knight, a glint of ambiguity in her eyes—Sean Knight felt a bit uneasy.

This silly woman couldn’t possibly think he rescued the penguin because of what she said yesterday, could she?

"All right, this penguin needs to rest. I’m going to take it to the bed," said Sean Knight, feeling it better not to let this woman misunderstand, and walked on with the penguin.

Judy Morris followed, her gaze not only on the penguin but also on Sean Knight.

As they passed Lincoln Harrington, Sean Knight asked,

"Isn’t it break time? Why are there so few people outside?"

"Most of them have gone underground," Lincoln Harrington explained. "It seems they’ve made a big discovery and called many people down. However, we are not among them."

Sean Knight could tell that "we" referred not only to Lincoln Harrington but also included Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper.

Did they fear that these people would take the good stuff from the underground city?

Sean Knight chuckled and said,

"It’s better not to go down. Who knows what dangers there might be."

"I think so too," Judy Morris agreed. "Unknown territories are the most dangerous. I’d rather dig through the soil layer by layer for archaeology than venture into dark areas—can I hold it?"

Sean Knight looked down at the little penguin and said,

"It’s up to it."

Judy Morris felt she understood Sean Knight’s thoughts. After all, what can a little penguin say? Could it resist a pair of gentle hands and an even softer, warmer embrace?

Judy Morris naturally reached out to take the little penguin—never expected this straightforward man to have some cunning, did she!

But to her surprise, as she neared it, the little penguin woke up and swiftly pecked at her hand when she reached out!

"Ouch!" Judy Morris withdrew her hand in pain, covering the hurt spot, and looked at Sean Knight with a gaze of reproach.

"Sorry, it seems that it doesn’t want you to hold it," said Sean Knight, having seen that the spot where the little penguin pecked merely turned red without breaking the skin.

No big problem.

Not paying any more attention to Judy, Sean Knight carried the little penguin towards the bed.

Judy Morris truly liked this fluffy little creature, but unfortunately, the little one was very wary. Whenever she approached, it would stand up and draw closer to Sean Knight.

"Well, it seems it has misunderstood me," Judy resigned herself and gave up. "What does it eat? Fish? I’ll see if I can feed it."

"It’s already full. Maybe tomorrow," Sean Knight declined her suggestion, made a warm nest for the little penguin on the bed, and let it sleep.

Judy Morris pouted.

As a beautiful researcher, she never lacked admirers.

But this time, she was mistaken!

Sean Knight gave Lincoln Harrington enough hints, and soon after Lincoln left the room, he came back.

Sean Knight knew that whatever he intended to say, Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper must have been informed by now.

If so many people had died, the underground city was definitely not as simple as just those few monsters!

The second day, Judy Morris, as she wished, brought some fish to feed the little penguin, but it still wouldn’t let her hold it.

After having breakfast, Sean Knight planned to leave with the penguin in his arms.

"I’m going to look for its parents. After all, it’s not really possible for me to bring it out of this mainland region."

Judy hesitated for a moment, then a staff member called her.

"Then I hope you can help it find its mom and dad," Judy sincerely said.

Although the little penguin consistently refused Judy’s embrace, it was clear that the female scientist truly liked the little creature.

Sean Knight nodded, glanced in the direction of the staff, and said,

"I have a feeling something may happen today. It’s best if you don’t go down that cave."

Judy Morris waved her hand nonchalantly,

"Since I’ve taken the money, I still have to do what needs to be done."

Sean Knight didn’t say more, left with the penguin. As a contracted biologist, he needed to show some research results upon his arrival here. So he at least had to take a few presentable pictures, right?
