Chapter 1330: Chapter 656: The Sky is Falling! _3

When Sean Knight left, he bumped into Lincoln Harrington who was returning from outside. The two exchanged pleasantries and then went their separate ways.

Away from the Base, a little penguin peeked out from Sean’s clothes, looking around curiously.

Sean didn’t pay it any mind and continued walking until he reached the penguin habitat.

Many penguins were calling out there, and the little penguin joined in with their cries.

Skua birds still circled in the sky, and Sean crouched down to release the little penguin.

That night, he had passed a little bit of his spirit energy to the little penguin. Although it hadn’t grown much in size, it was clearly much more active than yesterday.

When a skua bird flew down to attack the little penguin, Sean waved his arm and chased it away.

A few little penguins seemed to remember Sean and waddled over to him, apparently looking for food.

Sean took out some fish from his spatial realm to feed these penguins, including the one he had previously taken, which was also vying for the food.

Just then, Sean suddenly felt a violent shake beneath his feet, almost losing his balance!

Cracking sounds were coming from the ice layer on the ground!

A muffled explosion sounded from the direction of the Base!

Sean turned his head to look and to his surprise, found that the ice layer towards the Base had already cracked open, with large chunks of ice sinking downwards!

An immense hollow place had formed where the ground once was, with cracks stretching out for kilometers, some even reaching more than ten kilometers!

The Underground City had exploded!

Although Sean had contemplated such a scenario—after all, the gases continuously churning in that lake were no good—he hadn’t expected the explosion to be so intense!

An area of several kilometers had collapsed!

Where once there was solid ground, a massive hollow place now existed, and it was still sinking!

The subsidence had already exceeded twenty meters. Clearly, this explosion must have directly collapsed that underground space!

Sean looked towards the Base, noticing that its location was right on the edge of the hollow place. A few Base cars had already fallen into the hollow as the ice collapsed, and a few more were desperately trying to flee!

The penguins here were also frightened and ran desperately towards the distance, while the skua birds circled overhead, too afraid to land!

The little penguin scrambled into Sean’s arms, obviously terrified as well!

Sean knew he had to go back.

He had previously warned Harper Adams and the others not to go down, but he hadn’t imagined the collapse from the explosion would have such a tremendous impact!

By now, the whole world must have noticed the collapse, right? The global seismic networks should have detected it, and soon people would come to investigate.

Sean held the little penguin in his arms and ran quickly back towards the Base.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, the little penguin stayed silent and hid in Sean’s embrace.

By the time Sean arrived at the Base, he found that the original corridor entrance had been exposed by the subsidence and had now disappeared.

The covers that were once on it had vanished long ago, but because the subsidence had occurred right at the edge of this entrance, the pressure from the collapsing ice and soil had made the entrance disappear completely.

This meant that those who had entered were now buried.

The Base cars had driven five to six hundred meters away; when Sean arrived, the subsidence was no longer spreading, but the noise from the hollow was not ceasing.

What surprised him a bit was that Nancy was also outside and hadn’t gone in.

Elijah Hastings, Lincoln Harrington, Douglas Cooper were present; currently, the people here were all fringe members recruited by the expedition team, including various experts as well as staff.

Not a single direct descendant of the Davena family was seen.

Everyone stared at the hollow place in silence.

From time to time, people would run back, then stare blankly at the hollow place.

The situation was so fantastical that no one could articulate anything.

What surprised Sean Knight was that the trailer they were staying in was still there, not having fallen into the pit.

Sean Knight went over to the house where Lincoln Harrington approached and whispered:

"Miss Nancy originally came up to gather us all to go down. Captain Hastings said no, so we dragged our feet, and then just now, a group of people agreed to go down because Nancy offered more money, and they had just entered..."

The two were in a trailer; speaking here wouldn’t draw anyone else’s attention.

Currently, everyone’s attention was on the hollow place, no one was paying attention here.

Sean Knight glanced at the distraught Nancy and thought to himself that he didn’t know whether to call this girl lucky or unlucky.

Suddenly, someone shouted:

"Quick, rescue people! So many have gone down..."

Lincoln Harrington glanced at the man, then said to Sean Knight:

"This guy’s brother just went down; he didn’t want to because he’s afraid of being silenced. He kept trying to stop his brother, but his brother thought that fifty-thousand dollars was quite a lot, so..."

Sean Knight didn’t speak, at that moment the little penguin seemed to sense the changes outside and poked out its head.

Sean Knight took out a small fish and fed it to the penguin.

"Judy Morris went down too," Lincoln Harrington, seeing the penguin, remembered the woman and whispered, "Nancy made her go, saying there was an ancient relic below."

Sean Knight remained silent.

The person crying out for rescue ran towards the edge of the hollow place, but there was no way to save them—even the cars that slide down were now buried under layers of ice and soil, in such icy and snowy conditions, it was simply impossible to rescue them alive.

Even revealing Sean Knight’s spatial realm would be of no use. Most of the people must be in that underground space, crushed into paste by the first wave of thousands of tons of soil and ice blocks the moment it happened, beyond saving.

Nancy waved her hand:

"Let’s go. Get in the car, head back to the boat."

Obviously, this place was no longer safe to stay in.

Sean was actually surprised by her decisiveness, to be able to make such a decision immediately; her resolution was unquestionable!

To know what can’t be done and not do it, that is the essence a true leader should possess.

Some of those present didn’t move, while others got into their vehicles.

Those planning to leave packed into the cars, and two base vehicles dragging trailers circled around, heading towards the direction of the icebreaker ship.

The remainder stayed put, not knowing whether they wanted to attempt a rescue or wait for others who had gone out to return.

Sean Knight had no intention of waiting any longer; he had been underground and knew it was completely impossible to save those people.

No one spoke; the situation was overwhelmingly oppressive.

Only the penguin in his arms was unaware of any troubles, chirping happily.
