Chapter 1298: Chapter 646: Not Enough to See!
Sean Knight and his team had been waiting until nightfall, but they saw no suspicious persons approaching.
"Boss, shall we let the people in the basement relax a bit?" Lincoln Harrington reported through the walkie-talkie, "They are starting to complain."
"Tell them to stay there for at least one night, and to send some bedding over. There’s a reward of five hundred dollars for the night," Sean Knight responded straightforwardly with a financial incentive, "Tell them there’s a situation now, and ask for their understanding."
The moment they heard about the money, the morale of these non-combatants was immediately restored.
They weren’t fools; recognizing that they were on high alert made it clear something was up.
Who would stick their neck out seeking trouble?
"Boss, could it be that it’s not happening tonight?" Douglas Cooper asked, "If they don’t come tonight..."
"Then we continue waiting!" Sean Knight was sure that Robert would not deceive him.
If he had been swindled out of billions of dollars, wouldn’t he chase the thief to outer space if necessary to capture him?
The same logic applied.
Especially when dealing with someone like Sherlock!
Of course, when it came to taking the other party’s money, Sean Knight felt no guilt. A family that started out with usury and amassed wealth through deceit didn’t deserve sympathy for their loss.
If the other party abided by the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest, then they can’t blame others for targeting them.
After mentally justifying his actions, Sean Knight felt perfectly at ease to lie in wait.
To make the courtyard seem as normal as possible during the daytime, Sean Knight had Elijah Hastings station two former special operations team members, wearing bulletproof vests, at the entrance.
Activity in the courtyard also continued intermittently, appearing no different from usual.
Then Elijah Hastings received a report from a hidden sentry:
"Based on our observations, a drone is monitoring us from five hundred meters above," reported the sentry.
"Ignore it," knowing that the enemy must already be nearby, Elijah responded, "Continue as planned."
Elijah Hastings immediately reported this situation to Sean Knight.
"It looks like it’s going to be tonight," Sean Knight intuitively felt more certain, and said, "Make sure no one that comes here gets away!"
As it got darker, lights in the courtyard were turned on, and there were fewer people moving about.
Later on, when most lights in the courtyard were turned off, only the front gate and the foyer entrance remained dimly lit.
After several rounds, the sentry at the gate finally returned to the guard shack, Visible from outside, one lay on the table and the other leaned on a chair, both seemingly asleep.
Several figures quietly approached.
Seeing the locked big iron door, the group split into two teams, cutting through the iron wire mesh at both sides of the gate and the back of the small building to climb over the wall into the courtyard.
Two individuals quietly approached the guard shack, seemingly intending to neutralize the sentries first.
The others had already started to divide, five forming a combat team heading toward the small building where Sean Knight was, while others blocked the remaining staircases.
As the two figures who reached the guard shack pulled open the door and were about to act, two soft "bangs" from inside pre-emptively blew their heads off!
The muffled sounds of the silenced guns seemed like a signal, and suddenly several bright lights turned on within the whole courtyard, illuminating it as if it were daylight!
The figures at the stairwells, caught in the act, froze in place, completely terrified despite being heavily armed!
Even the slowest among them realized they had fallen into a trap.
But it was too late!
As the floodlights came on, the sound of gunfire erupted like popping corn, resounding fiercely throughout the area!
The remaining eight team members in the courtyard fell one after another!
The first figure to reach the staircase reacted the fastest, sensing danger as the lights came on and diving forward into the staircase to avoid the initial volley of bullets!
The moment he dove into the staircase, he instantly spun around and returned fire wildly at the outside, aiming to suppress external gunfire and protect his teammates.
His shooting had some effect, allowing another team member to dash forward, while a third was hit by bullets as he attempted, even with a bulletproof vest, his head, arms, and legs punctured with bullet holes, blood spewing out!
"Gray Wolf, Gray Wolf!" the second assailant who made it inside shouted, "Don’t panic, I’ve got first aid for you!"
He dragged his injured teammate inside, but the man only twitched before going limp.
Clearly, he was already dead.
"Black Bear, forget him!" the first attacker who had entered coldly stated, "We’ve got a mole! We must get back safely, or else no one will avenge us!"
After saying this, the other person, Black Bear, reluctantly set down the body of his comrade, grabbed his gun, and unleashed a storm of bullets outside before swiftly speaking:
"Red Fox, get upstairs and capture the target, that’s the only way we’ll be safe! I’ll hold them off here!"
Black Bear, true to his name, was two meters tall with the stature of a bear, brandishing a machine gun!
Without waiting for a reply, he opened fire towards the outside with the machine gun.
"Right!" Red Fox immediately moved up.
Despite his urgency to capture Sean Knight, Red Fox moved cautiously, carefully clearing the stairwell corner and peeking up with his gun before rushing forward.
