Chapter 1272: Chapter 637: Accidentally Entering the Depths of the Treasure!_2

"Damn it, trouble." Douglas came over and took a look. "Military radio. These guys have backup, we need to run fast!"

"Get in the car quick!" Elijah gestured with his hand. "We’ve been marked."

Platoon Leader Wang’s face was a mask of embarrassment. Needless to say, the reason everyone was put on alert was only one thing: his precious son.

But that was not something easy to say.

Several people got into the car, then made a slanting move to return to the road.

Going back the same way was obviously an easy way to get caught by anyone who might come after them.

However, this detour took them far off course.

As they continued to circle around sand dunes, eventually, drivers Douglas and Elijah lost track of how far they were from the highway.

With no choice, they stopped the car, transferred the fuel they found from those guys’ cars into their own vehicle, and rested in the car’s shadow, eating to replenish their energy.

It seemed there were quite a few sand dunes here, and they didn’t look like the naturally shifting kind; their shapes were too regular.

Sean Knight ate while surveying the environment around him.

He looked down at the ground covered with a thin layer of sand and kicked at it, revealing the firm soil beneath, clearly resembling the geological structure of the Gobi Beach.

A thought struck Sean, and he turned his head towards the sand dunes—activating "Sky Eye."

Damn it!

These huge sand dunes, stretching hundreds of meters long and several tens of meters high, turned out to be artificially made—with several man-made buildings underneath!

And these man-made structures were clearly no more than a hundred years old!

Because the layer of sand was too thick, Sean’s "Sky Eye" couldn’t see what exactly was inside those concrete buildings.

Just then, a low rumble suddenly came from the sky.

"Drone!" Sean shouted.

Lincoln tossed aside the dry food in his hand, pulled open the car door, took out his sniper rifle, and propped it on the car’s hood, aiming at the direction the sound was coming from.

Sean, Elijah, Douglas, and Captain Wang also pulled out their automatic rifles and aimed into the sky.

"Got it!" Lincoln shouted, "A reconnaissance drone, distance... 210 meters."

Sean saw it too. But at that distance, he wasn’t sure he could bring down the drone, which was almost the size of an eagle, with a single shot.

However, precision wasn’t necessary anymore—as Lincoln fired with a bang.

Sean saw that a piece of the drone’s wing was shot off, and it immediately lost control of its flight path, plummeting to the ground below.

Yet, in just a few minutes, two more drones flew over!

"Bang, bang, bang, bang!" Sean knew they were definitely exposed now, and he began firing bursts from his automatic rifle.

The others began firing wildly, and the two drones were brought down.

"Let’s go, we can’t wait any longer." Sean made a snap decision, "Those things are too cheap, and we’re too passive like this, we must leave here as fast as possible!"

Everyone quickly got into the cars and sped deep into the desert.

Sean looked back and memorized the location.

The cars drove toward the national border, avoiding going through any cities.

By nightfall, the harassment from the drones finally ceased. Along the way, they had shot down seven drones, but because their route was so erratic, no one managed to follow them.

When they reached the borderline, the two cars stopped.

"We can’t keep the cars, let’s climb over," Sean said. "Once we cross the national border, we’ll be safe. Let’s leave here as soon as possible, then find the embassy of the country across the border and figure out a way to return home quickly."

Elijah caught Sean’s intent and asked with some surprise, "Boss, you’re going back?"

"Yeah, I have some things to deal with," Sean said. "I’ll be back soon."

"Boss, we’ll stay, together," Douglas immediately said. "You alone..."

"I’m actually safer alone," Sean wiped his face as a hint, "If you’re worried, wait in the other country. I’ll get in touch when I return."

Elijah and the others understood Sean’s gesture in a second and realized it was true.

If they followed, it could actually cause problems due to identity issues.

Sean was indeed safer on his own.

"Then you must be careful, boss." Elijah said, "We’ll wait for you around here."

Captain Wang immediately said to Sean:

"Mr. Knight, thank you! Let us wait here for you to come back."

"No need," Sean shook his head. "If anything happens, any one of us four could escape by themselves. It’s not good for all of you, including your family—to let the goodwill of Elijah and his men be in vain. You better hurry back to your own country."

Sean’s words were harsh, but they were the truth.

If armed elements did come, Sean and the others had the strength to confront them, but what about the captain himself?

Barely fifty percent of his former capability?

As for his son and wife, it was best not to think about it.

Captain Wang’s face turned somber, but Sean offered no comfort.

After so much had happened, any more talk seemed false.

Safety had to come first.

They left the cars at the border, and Elijah and his men took advantage of the night to scale the iron wire mesh stakes of the border and disappeared into the night.

That whole day Wang Tianlei was uncharacteristically quiet, which took Sean by surprise.

One hour later, Sean drove a car back into the desert.

Early the next day, Sean returned to the artificial sand dunes.

He abandoned the car halfway there.

Upon arrival, Sean found that there was no one nearby—not even a trace of human activity for quite some time.
