Chapter 1261: Chapter 633: War, It Has Nothing to Do with Me_3
Elijah Hastings paused and glanced at Sean Knight, then at the other two people, and said,
"The item is now in the city; its location is written on this piece of paper. Now, what do we do?"
Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper’s gazes landed on Sean Knight.
"What else can we do? Take the item and exchange it for the person," Sean Knight chuckled. "That’s what we came here for."
Since Sean Knight was the one who found the item, it was natural for the three of them to seek his opinion.
Now that Sean Knight had spoken, they all breathed a sigh of relief. The boss’s influence should not be underestimated; since he agreed to the plan, the car immediately headed for a supermarket in the city.
Though the supermarket was open twenty-four hours, there were only lights at the entrance, with no people in sight.
Sean Knight got out of the car, his features those of a local, and walked over to the supermarket’s luggage lockers—these could hold items for a longer period. He approached Locker No. C-24.
The locker was locked but that was no challenge for Sean Knight.
He took out a small knife from his spatial realm and roughly pried the door open, retrieving a small leather bag from inside.
Sky Eye had already seen that inside was a scepter—Sean Knight was baffled by this Western symbol of power, as in China, it would have been the Imperial Jade Seal, weaponry, or clothing that represented authority.
The leather bag contained an iron scepter head wrapped in aged sheepskin paper, with a crudely-mounted gemstone embedded in it. The scepter wasn’t elegant and was quite roughly made.
The gemstone too was crudely cut and had this object been thrown outside, it most likely would have been cast aside as a poorly crafted toy by amateurs.
But to Sean Knight, it seemed like a 50,000-watt lightbulb, filled with a large quantity of energy!
Inhale!
Sean Knight never rejected these forms of energy. Although the energy clearly contained some elements of fanaticism, that didn’t mean he couldn’t use it.
Having walked out of the supermarket and reached the car in the parking lot, he had already absorbed two-thirds of the massive amount of energy within the scepter.
The rest was not as easy to absorb, and somewhat regretfully, Sean Knight ceased the energy extraction, got into the car, and handed the scepter to Elijah Hastings.
"Boss, you should keep it," Elijah Hastings said as he pushed the leather bag back at Sean Knight. "We’ll handle the combat part; it’s safer for you to keep this."
Sean Knight did not refuse. To be honest, now that he held the object, whether to hand it over to those people or not was an open question.
Sean Knight even harbored a malicious suspicion that the reason those people had sent a platoon leader with the item might be because the platoon leader’s son himself was problematic!
Taking such precautions in a dangerous environment was not unwarranted.
Safety first!
"So what do we do now?" Douglas Cooper asked.
"We go where those people are gathering," Sean Knight replied. "We’ll throw them a message and have them exchange the item for the person. Here, who knows your platoon leader’s handwriting best? Elijah? Good, you write it. The message is about making a trade for your platoon leader.
It would be best if you hinted subtly, letting your platoon leader know to be wary of his son—of course, our exchange should include everyone."
Elijah Hastings looked at Sean Knight in surprise but said nothing, nodding instead. He took the pen and paper from Sean Knight, pondered briefly, and began to write. After finishing, he handed the paper back to Sean Knight.
Sean Knight didn’t even look at it before pulling out an envelope to put the paper in, then tied the envelope to a stone with a rope.
"Boss, your bag is like a Treasure Pouch, it has everything!" Douglas Cooper joked.
Sean Knight just smiled and said nothing.
The car followed the route Sean Knight had given and headed towards where those people were gathered.
As they approached the Courtyard, Sean Knight could already see people stirring Inside Courtyard.
He rolled down the car window and threw the stone tied with the envelope inside.
Sean Knight’s throw was accurate, shattering a windowpane on impact.
The people inside were immediately agitated, some grabbing Guns, others concealing themselves.
The car sped off in a cloud of dust.
The car stopped in the Parking Lot of a remote Shopping Center, and Elijah Hastings asked Sean Knight,
"Boss, if we really make the exchange, what do we do after the swap?"
"What else can we do? Take the people and leave," Sean Knight laughed. "Their war has nothing to do with us. If it were in China, I might voice my opinions based on personal likes and dislikes, but here, we should rescue the people first and ensure our own safety before anything else."
Elijah and the others nodded.
"Alright, you all stay Inside the car for now, and I’ll go take a look around," Sean Knight said. "The meeting is scheduled for Tomorrow Night, so during the daytime, you all need to rest well."
Sean Knight got out of the car, left the Parking Lot, changed his appearance, and wandered nearby.
Before dawn, he found a target.
It was a Single Dwelling Courtyard, but no one was inside.
From the dust in the Room, it was clear no one had lived there for at least half a year.
The house had full utilities, which Sean Knight confirmed by climbing over the wall to check it out, and when he came back out, he opened the Entrance to the Courtyard.
The Courtyard could accommodate cars, and there were signs of previous parking, but the vehicles were gone, likely taken by the former occupants.
"Come on, I’ll take you to a place where you can rest," Sean Knight returned to the Parking Lot, got into the car and signaled Lincoln Harrington to drive.
Guiding the Car into the Courtyard, Sean Knight got out and said,
"Get inside, don’t turn on any lights, and find a place to rest on your own. We’ll stay inside during the daytime, go nowhere else, conserve our strength, and act at Night."
They were all happy to have a place where they could rest thoroughly, which would undoubtedly be beneficial for the upcoming operation.
The sky gradually brightened, and the roads became busier with cars and pedestrians.
Although there were occasional sounds of gunfire in the distance, people still had to live their lives.
Sean Knight merely glanced at the people outside through the window before turning away.
What he and Elijah had discussed was true. The war here was none of his concern; he just wanted to rescue the people and leave as quickly as possible.
He hoped there would not be any complications.
