Chapter 1260: Chapter 633: War, It Has Nothing to Do with Me_2
"Okay." Sean Knight thought it was a good idea.
After the car arrived in the area near the ruins, the four of them got out and quietly approached the ruins.
Sean Knight kept Sky Eye active, monitoring the situation over there.
There were only two stakeout teams left of the original three. The kids were still there, as were the members of the violent gang, but the government officials had left.
The two kids were dozing off, leaning against each other, while the violent agency had moved to a two-story building nearby, watching this area with a telescope.
However, the person watching was also dozing off.
This was quite negligent.
Sean Knight then focused his attention back on the ruins, becoming more careful. He immediately warned the others:
"We all need to be cautious. There are plenty of cans scattered around the ruins, and some small traps have been set up. Anyone stepping on them will definitely alarm those keeping watch!"
Elijah Hastings and the other two, after being reminded by Sean Knight, noticed the problem as well.
"Be careful," they reminded each other as they reached the ruins.
This area should have been a courtyard, but it was destroyed, though not flattened. Some walls still stood.
Sean Knight continued to observe with Sky Eye, noticing that beneath the ruins were some destroyed pieces of furniture. Occasionally, he could see firearm parts and bullet shells, indicating that there must have been a shootout before the explosion.
Sean Knight treaded carefully - the cans appeared to be thrown randomly, but they actually blocked all the convenient paths.
He also kept an eye on the two stakeout teams, ready to retreat at a moment’s notice if necessary.
To Elijah and the others, Sean Knight seemed to be walking quite casually, covering only a small area.
But in reality, Sean Knight’s Sky Eye had already scanned the entire courtyard.
Besides a backpack with "China" written on it under the ruins, which could serve as evidence, nothing else seemed to be left.
The backpack did contain some documents, but it was nearly impossible to dig it out through half a meter thick layer of concrete right now.
When he extended his search to the outskirts of the ruins, he immediately found something!
Right at the base of a nearby power pole, a brick had been loosened. Hidden beneath it was a small leather bag with several pieces of paper inside.
Sean Knight carefully withdrew and made his way to the base of the power pole.
Crouching down, he pried open the loose brick. There was a layer of loose soil underneath. If he hadn’t known there was something below, a regular person might have given up after finding nothing once they removed the brick.
After lifting the soil, Sean Knight retrieved the slightly damp leather bag.
Though Elijah and the others hadn’t discovered anything, they were very observant; seeing that Sean had found something, they immediately gathered around.
"Let’s go," Sean Knight said with only a word before turning and heading quickly toward their car.
Elijah and the others exchanged glances and rapidly followed.
"Clang, clang..." Douglas Cooper accidentally kicked a can.
"Damn it!" he cursed, and rushed swiftly towards Sean Knight.
Elijah and Lincoln Harrington also sprinted over frantically.
The sound of the cans woke the dozing children and alerted the gang member who was watching through the telescope.
He rubbed his eyes, and as he looked through the telescope, he realized the people had disappeared.
The two children quickly came to their senses but only saw a shadow vanish around the corner!
Someone was coming!
The two children glanced at each other; then, one chased after the shadow while the other ran back to their original gathering place.
The appearance of the children was captured by the person on lookout with the telescope, who was shocked and immediately reached for the walkie-talkie to make a report.
After Sean and the others got in the car, Lincoln started the engine and sped away.
The kid watched the disappearing taillights, shook his head helplessly, and turned back.
Sean Knight and his group drove to the main road and then to a large parking lot.
"This is what I’ve found; take a look," Sean Knight handed the leather bag to Elijah.
Elijah took the leather bag, checked it, and opened the clasp to take out the papers inside.
By the light inside the car, Elijah examined the papers.
After reading them, he handed the papers to Sean Knight and sighed, "The platoon leader guessed that someone might come to rescue him, and these papers explain the situation."
"Is it the platoon leader’s handwriting?" Douglas asked.
"Yes," Elijah confirmed with a nod.
Sean Knight passed one of the papers to Douglas, "Take a look and see if you recognize it."
"It’s the platoon leader’s handwriting," Douglas confirmed after checking.
"The platoon leader said they got caught up in something important. Upon arriving in this city, it turns out that the former owner of the rented courtyard where his son was staying was actually from the opposing country.
Those people had stolen a holy relic from this side and were planning to smuggle it out of the country, and the platoon leader was the person they chose to help transport it.
However, they did not expect the war to break out suddenly, and their presence was exposed. This place was flattened, and the platoon leader was most likely taken by them.
At that time, the platoon leader didn’t know the object they were supposed to take was a holy relic. By the time the situation changed and he realized something was wrong, it was already too late. Fortunately, he hid the relic as soon as he got it.
Now all three parties want that object. The platoon leader’s message indicates that if we want to rescue him, we must start with those people."
