Chapter 1258: Chapter 632: Thunderous Explosion, So Refreshing!_3
When the child uttered the last word, the two cars had already passed each other by a good distance, but luckily, the hearing of Sean Knight and his team was stronger than that of ordinary people, so they were able to hear the whole thing.
"Even the locals are not allowed through the checkpoint, we might get stopped," Lincoln Harrington analyzed.
"However, if we want to go to that city, we must pass through this checkpoint," Elijah Hastings said with a somewhat serious expression, "It’s the only way.
Because there’s a river up ahead, if we wanted to detour, we would have to go around at least a few hundred kilometers, and moreover, there’s likely a checkpoint at the other bridges too."
"Then let’s just go, we’ll deal with it when we get there," Sean Knight decided, "Time is of the essence right now, it’s not suitable to detour."
"Let’s go," Elijah Hastings nodded, agreeing with the reasoning.
The further they drove, the fewer cars they saw, and eventually, they didn’t see any at all.
Sean Knight guessed that either people wanting to come from behind had received notice or some form of communication had stopped them from taking this route.
After driving about twenty-something kilometers and being able to see a river in the distance, a checkpoint appeared ahead.
The checkpoint was located at the mountain pass, and cars were unable to get through on both sides. What was a bit surprising to Sean Knight was that the checkpoint had more than a dozen soldiers, and not far from their post, five people were tied up to posts.
Before long, someone came out of the sentry box, holding a pistol, speaking to the other soldiers, and then shot the tied-up people one by one, killing them!
"Damn it, this is a slaughter!" Douglas Cooper, who was driving, couldn’t help but shout.
The people over there had also seen their car, and someone was waving their hand, signaling for the car to stop.
Just then, the man with the pistol suddenly shouted and gave a wave of his hand, and six or seven people ran down the slope.
Sean Knight turned his head and saw a dozen or so people carrying parcels running quickly towards the river—about seven to eight hundred meters away from the sentry post.
Now there were only two armed men left at the checkpoint and the man with the pistol. However, these two had already raised their guns, aiming at Sean Knight’s car.
The man with the pistol watched Sean Knight and his team with a cold smirk on his face.
"Drive through," Sean Knight took out a hand grenade from his backpack and said,
"If we charge through, we shouldn’t have a problem!"
"Damn, boss, do we have to be so fierce?" Douglas Cooper, who saw Sean Knight’s actions in the rearview mirror, was startled but then quickly realized,
"But it’s a good idea, blow that son of a bitch to hell!"
After saying that, he drove the car forward.
The car stopped in front of the stop bar, and the man signaled for the car window to be rolled down.
Elijah Hastings rolled down the front car window, and the man looked at the four people, was taken aback for a moment, and then asked,
"Chinese People? Japanese?"
Sean Knight also rolled down his car window and said,
"Officer, take a look at this!"
He handed over a stack of US Dollars.
The man’s face changed, and then he showed a greedy look,
"Trying to bribe us? Get out, submit to inspection!" he said, then turned his head and signaled to the two soldiers with a gesture.
Sean Knight spoke again,
"Not enough? There’s more here!" he said, passing a small package to the man with the pistol, but his gaze was fixed on one of the soldiers.
That soldier looked dazed and actually went over and lifted the barrier!
"Go!" Sean Knight said in Mandarin.
Douglas Cooper was already prepared, and as soon as he pressed the gas pedal, he rushed out!
The car top was almost scraping the barrier as it went out, and the man with the pistol was just beginning to unzip the package to see what was inside when the car suddenly burst through, leaving him unsure if he should stop the car or check the contents of the package first.
Just then, "Boom!" the package exploded right in his hands!
The man with the pistol, along with the two soldiers, were directly blown away by the blast!
The soldier who had let Sean Knight’s team leave, because half of his body was shielded by the one with the pistol, only got shrapnel lodged into his sides, but the other two had at least twenty or thirty pieces embedded into their fronts, including their faces!
The soldiers who were chasing the common people heard the noise from their direction and saw the thick smoke rising, realizing something was wrong at the post, and they quickly ran back!
Sitting in the car, Sean Knight and his team felt the car being shoved and bump for a moment before it steadied again.
They sped to the riverbank at full speed. There was no inspection on the bridge, and they drove quickly across.
"Find a place quickly, change the car, then let’s head into the city," Elijah Hastings made the decision.
After crossing the bridge, there were more green trees, and as they drove on for more than a dozen kilometers, more cars appeared on the road.
Sean Knight and his team, however, relaxed a bit.
This signified that the area was relatively stable and not fraught with many troubles.
They passed several villages but did not switch cars because of the excessive number of people and the fact that they did not want to expose their faces, so they simply changed their plan and decided to go straight into that city and then see what to do next.
An hour later, the car arrived at the suburbs of the city.
Seeing quite a few people leaving the city on foot or by bike, with luggage tied atop some cars, Douglas Cooper remarked,
"This place isn’t peaceful either!"
"Let’s not worry about that now. According to the map, we’ll first enter the city and find the last known location of the platoon leader and then investigate from there," Elijah Hastings stopped Douglas from continuing to talk.
After all, they had arrived, and speaking such words would only make everyone more pessimistic.
The car entered the city smoothly—now there were more people leaving the city, and there were no checks at the various street entrances.
However, after they entered the city, they could occasionally see military vehicles or military personnel patrolling, and occasionally, some people would suddenly rush out, chasing after a few others or an individual.
The military police would scold, but did not intervene excessively.
On the road, they sporadically saw abandoned parcels, clothes, and cars.
Order had somewhat broken down.
Half an hour later, they arrived at their destination with difficulty.
Here, it had turned into ruins!
