Chapter 1232: Chapter 624: Could There Really Be An Ancient Civilization?
Seeing a bright light ahead, Sean Knight felt elated. Could this be the real underground palace?
The distance was quite far, and his Sky Eye could only see it vaguely, but he could make out that the area beyond the corridor entrance was incredibly spacious.
Just as he was about to lead his team toward it, the ground suddenly began to shake violently again!
Damn it!
Without a doubt, Maramart’s group must have used explosives to blast their way through once more!
And this time, being underground, the impact felt even more intense. They could even hear the sand at the cave entrance continuously falling!
"Move up quickly!" Elijah Hastings shouted, "Don’t let the sand bury the entrance!"
"Back!" Sean yelled, and everyone immediately ran back!
At this moment, Sean had murder in his heart against Maramart’s people.
Damn them—they were only concerned with their own interests, careless of the lives of others.
However, he estimated that there were probably none on the outside who didn’t share his desire to get rid of that group.
Running back to the entrance fast, they discovered that it had indeed been sealed off.
The two people left at the entrance were desperately digging, shouting down to the others as they did so.
Fortunately, the corridor was relatively long, and the sand was only piling up in the sloped area. Sean saw this through his Sky Eye and immediately felt relieved.
"Elijah, keep digging. I’m going down to take a look," he said, his mind still focused on the glowing object below.
"Right, once we’ve cleared a passage, leave a couple of people up there. First, to prevent the entrance from being sealed by another blast, and second, to guard against anyone coming over and spying on our hole."
Elijah agreed, and Sean raced down the corridor.
When he reached the entrance to the underground palace, what met his eyes was a dazzling scene.
He rubbed his eyes and saw that on both sides of the palace entrance there were numerous dried flowers.
These flowers had a strange appearance; they were very large, as big as a person’s face, while the leaves were very small. The stems were twisted but incredibly sturdy.
What was more magical was that these flowers were emitting various kinds of light—just like lamps!
Sean looked at the flowers lighting up in succession as he walked by, beginning to understand. It was likely that these flowers lit up because of the new influx of air.
Some TV programs mentioned that some tomb mechanism lamps needed air to light up. It’s probably the same principle with these flowers.
However, such light probably wouldn’t last very long, right?
Sean conjectured as he walked on, his Sky Eye activated.
Upon entering the underground palace, he was astonished to find the space extraordinarily vast!
A glance revealed it to be as big as several football fields!
It suddenly occurred to him, could it be possible that all those buildings on the surface, with corridors leading underground, eventually converged into this same underground palace?
The first thing he saw was a series of statues, mainly of warriors with swords in hand—these stone statues were simple in design, tall and imposing.
Sean examined them closely with his Sky Eye but found no mechanisms.
But soon he sensed something wrong—the air in the subterranean palace contained toxins!
Although not very potent, staying in the palace too long would still be deadly!
Naturally, he and Elijah’s group were exceptions—their internal energy dissolved the toxins the moment they breathed them in.
Sean continued forward.
Behind the dense warrior statues were relatively fewer god statues.
Having excavated treasures of ancient Egypt before, he recognized these statues as those of their ancient gods, the low-ranking ones.
The farther he went, the higher the rank of the statues that reached three to four meters tall.
Until once again, Ra’s figure reappeared.
But this time, Ra’s statue wasn’t made of stone. Instead, it was cast in bronze, adorned with a golden helmet and armor, as well as a solid gold solar boat.
Treasure!
Sean stepped forward, unhesitatingly taking the artifact for himself.
In front of the statue, there were spaces divided by stone pillars.
These spaces appeared connected, yet their contents were relatively independent.
The corridor stood taller, like a stone platform two meters wide, while the individual spaces were lower, accessed by descending stone steps from both sides of the corridor.
It was like a set of cubicles, separated by the corridor.
And the corridors were a vast network, extensive and numerous.
In the space nearest to Sean, about 100 square meters in size, there were bronze shelves filled with heavy books bound in bronze covers.
Sean approached and flipped open a book, discovering that its pages were also bronze, inscribed with hieroglyph-like symbols, but they were neither Oracle Bone Script nor any common form of Ancient Egyptian cuneiform circulating in the outside world.
He opened another book, only to find similar content.
Since he couldn’t decipher it, he decided to collect them all for later examination.
Sean picked up the hundred or so bronze books, along with the bronze shelf.
The floor was decorated with primitive patterns of animals and plants, shining as if new, but this was no longer within Sean’s area of interest.
The neighboring space was even larger, spanning three to four hundred square meters.
In this space, there was a series of stone platforms, each displaying an item.
There were weapons—a bronze axe, a two-handed greatsword adorned with patterns; armor—a golden helmet, full body plate armor, iron boots; protective gear—square shields, long shields, round shields; and more.
These war items were obviously very lavish, and to Sean, they seemed more like decoration. But when he collected them, he discovered that these items, especially the weapons, were extremely sharp and even had marks of use!
