Chapter 1231: Chapter 623 This move is well played!_3
Today, another large group of people surged in from the outside, and Maramart’s side saw a few more people joining them.
Sean Knight observed that, because of the few extra people, the excavation speed on that side had noticeably increased.
The guards had been reduced by two, joining the mining team instead.
Because Sean had Sky Eye, he could accurately determine the internal structure of the Pyramid and the most convenient hidden entrance, so by noon, he had already carved out two large stones, revealing the entrance inside.
The people here had all come up—having been sealed inside the Pyramid for many years, the gas inside was definitely harmful, and Sean did not want his team members to contract a chronic strange illness from rushing in.
Sky Eye was always observing the situation inside the entrance.
There weren’t swarms of strange insects coming up from the desert like in the Middle East.
At least on the surface, it appeared safe.
The team had just excavated the large stones and everyone was exhausted, so now was the time to rest. They scattered around the edges of the pit, sitting on the sand, watching others digging.
"People die for wealth, just as birds die for food," Douglas Cooper said with feigned emotion.
"What, you don’t want to eat? Then go watch the car," Elijah Hastings joked, "After this trip, I’ll tell the boss you don’t want to work anymore."
"Captain Hastings, don’t be like that, I was just showing off my sense of superiority! Look at them, digging for so long and coming up empty-handed while we... heh heh!"
Douglas Cooper glanced at Sean Knight, who was observing the situation at Maramart’s side, then whispered:
"Following the boss, we just need to get to work. Following the boss means there’s meat to eat!"
"I thought you didn’t want to work anymore," Elijah Hastings said with an intentional sigh, "Many brothers couldn’t make it this trip, and I regretted that. I thought that if you didn’t come, at least someone who wanted to be here could replace you..."
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking, okay?" Douglas raised his hands in surrender, knowing full well that missions with the boss meant bonuses far higher than wages.
Moreover, the boss also valued everyone’s safety. Dangerous missions came with double the bonuses, and they would outright avoid missions that were too dangerous.
Who wouldn’t be happy to work for such a boss?
In fact, Douglas Cooper knew very well that Elijah Hastings’s earlier words weren’t actually meant for him, but were a reminder to the other team members to cherish this opportunity.
The team members weren’t fools and knew to value this chance.
Just then, Sean Knight suddenly shouted:
"Everyone, be careful!"
The moment his words fell, everyone felt a tremor in the ground, followed by a muffled sound!
The entrance that had just been dug out was now filled with sand pouring down, nearly half-blocking the entrance!
"What happened?" someone anxiously asked.
"Damn it, which death-defying person is messing with underground explosions!" Douglas Cooper was quick to react, but his gaze fell on Sean Knight.
Elijah Hastings, Lincoln Harrington, and two other team members thought the same.
They immediately realized that Sean Knight had given a warning before the trembling even began!
Clearly, Sean had detected something when the enemy’s blasting sound waves started propagating!
The boss... was impressive!
"Alright, now let’s quickly clear the entrance and take advantage of the impending chaos to clean out the cave. Then, as night falls, we’ll go in to explore thoroughly," Sean said, decisively.
Seeing the treasure hunters, who had recovered from the explosion, rushing over to Maramart’s side and arguing with the guards, Sean urged:
"Now is a rare opportunity, let’s speed up!"
The others quickly caught on. The whole campground was in disarray, many people’s excavations were buried by the blast, and their hard work had gone to waste.
So there would surely be a large number of people giving trouble to Maramart, which was a perfect chance!
They immediately began their excavation.
"We don’t need to clear it all, just enough to fit a person!" Sean reminded them.
The corridor led to a stone chamber, and then to a diagonal downward passage. Sand had poured in, but one could still enter if they stooped.
Further ahead was a stone wall. The team’s original plan was to use a powerful explosion, but seeing the fate of Maramart’s team now, they dismissed the idea.
Fortunately, Sean quickly found the joint in the stone wall, and it was easy to pry open a gap with the tools, revealing a breach in the wall.
"Be careful, the smell inside is not quite right," Sean warned after removing the stone bricks.
Then, everyone retreated once again.
Outside, the chaos continued, with some taking advantage of the turmoil to steal items from other camps.
On Maramart’s side, several guards had been knocked down, many people had rushed into their excavated cave, and the occasional gunshot echoed.
Sean’s group, being further away, had not yet been affected.
Half an hour later, Sean and his team re-entered the Pyramid.
The air in the corridor had improved significantly.
Stepping over the now large hole in the stone wall, Sean and his team continued downwards with their flashlights.
It felt like they had descended nearly twenty meters below the surface, and this was just a short stretch.
The deeper they went down the corridor, the damper the ground became, but the air was surprisingly not foul.
Sean speculated, could there be another underground space?
Sky Eye remained active, but the corridor was extremely long, and Sky Eye could only see pathways stretching downward and nearby twisting corridors, with nothing else present.
Was he in the wrong place, or was this all there was to it?
Fortunately, with the chaos outside, no one was paying attention to this spot, so Sean and his team could safely continue their exploration.
Eventually, before them lay a vast expanse of darkness. Through Sean’s Sky Eye, it was a normal main hall.
And surrounding this hall were the special coffins of mummies, letting Sean know this was indeed a real Pyramid.
However, within the main hall stood just one statue, not of Anubis as Sean had seen before, but of Ra, with one foot on the Solar Boat!
What did that mean?
Did the placement of a sun god inside the Pyramid imply a refusal to reincarnate?
Although the statue wasn’t made of precious metals, given its age, Sean thought about securing it within his spatial realm when they got out.
But his eyes were drawn to the passage behind the hall, where faint glimmers of light were visible.
Could there be something there?
