Chapter 1230: Chapter 623 This move is well played!_2
Sean Knight ignored them and went straight to Maramart.
Actually, Maramart’s team had finished their work even earlier than Sean’s. After coming out of the cave, they had gone to their tents to eat.
This old black man was indeed quite conspicuous because he was the only black person working with all whites; it made him stand out.
However, Maramart held a high position and lived in a tent alone; even his food was brought to him by others.
There were about twenty people in Maramart’s team, with seven guards, three of whom carried guns, and the rest carried batons and such.
When Sean approached, a guard immediately stopped him.
"Strangers are not welcome here!"
"I’m looking for Mr. Maramart. I have something to discuss with him," Sean said.
"Do you know Mr. Maramart?" the tall guard asked skeptically, "Are you friends?"
"Tell him I have news from Afghanistan. He will see me."
Sean wanted to use this piece of news to get a meeting with Maramart.
The guard went to ask Maramart, half doubtful, and a minute later, he came back, somewhat angrily saying:
"Mr. Maramart says he doesn’t know what you are talking about and doesn’t want to see you! Get lost!"
Sean was somewhat surprised. Did Maramart really not care about the news from Afghanistan?
Having no other choice, Sean had to leave.
The night grew darker. Nearby, some people started a campfire, others hung solar-powered lamps, and some simply went to sleep in the darkness.
At midnight, Sean quietly got up and walked to the periphery of Maramart’s campsite.
Two guards were sitting by a campfire, chatting softly.
Sean circled to the back and quietly approached Maramart’s tent, where he heard snoring inside.
Quietly lifting the tent flap, Sean crawled in.
The tent had a nasty smell.
Sean took out the medicine powder and, using the illusion skill he learned in the A-san Forest, gently sprinkled the powder on Maramart’s nose.
Maramart sneezed lightly and then opened his eyes, but his gaze was a bit vacant.
"Are you called Maramart?" Sean asked softly.
"Yes."
"What are you here for?"
"Looking for the treasure inside the pyramid."
"Did you come here with the Davena family?"
"Yes."
"Who’s leading this mining operation?"
"Howard Davena."
"His identity?"
"He’s the second son of the Davena family tribe leader, responsible for the family’s affairs in Africa."
...
Under the influence of the illusion, Maramart’s expression was somewhat dull, and he answered questions in a monotone, without thinking further. He answered exactly what was asked, not alert or resistant.
Sean was patient, sending one question after another. They were basic and gradually became more probing, not triggering the opponent’s subconscious vigilance and resistance.
But when he finally asked about the location of the Davena family’s secret warehouse for cultural relics, Maramart hesitated before giving an address.
Alert, Sean asked the question again.
To his surprise, Maramart gave a different address this time!
Sean sensed there must be a reason for this; he asked again, and this time Maramart provided yet another different address.
The problem was, these three addresses were in different cities of the same country!
All in Thailand!
Sean asked about Asia, so among these three addresses, maybe only one was real.
Possibly more than three addresses—Sean asked the question again, already a bit irritated.
How could this be?
However, this time the address given was in Malaysia!
Damnit!
Sean inquired about the location again until Maramart finally repeated an address—it was the first time he had done so after giving six different addresses!
Damn it!
"Who’s there?"
Suddenly, a voice from a guard came from outside!
Sean immediately stopped what he was doing and watched the outside with caution.
In contrast, Maramart, hearing this voice, dully said:
"Me."
"Dr. Maramart, are you alright?" the guard outside asked.
"I’m fine."
"Alright, I heard noise inside and thought something was up. Rest well then."
"Alright, I’m resting." Maramart, upon hearing this as if it were a command, simply closed his eyes!
Damn it!
Sean was speechless.
This damn coincidence was too much!
But he had already asked the questions he wanted. If he wished to verify them, he would need to find Howard Davena.
The guy wasn’t here right now; he was still on the road.
Seems like a prince who can’t take hardships, should be easier to deal with.
Sean waited until the guards outside started dozing off, then quietly erased his traces and left.
The next day, Sean’s team continued digging as usual, and since there was nothing unusual about Maramart’s side, he was reassured.
"Boss, do we keep doing the same today?"
"No need," Sean looked around and saw that basically, no one was paying attention to them anymore, so he said:
"Today we start the real excavation. I’ve already chosen the location. Keep three people outside as a decoy, the same as before, and as soon as the rest of you clear the hole, immediately go in. We need to open up the passageway as soon as possible."
Sean’s team’s digging yesterday was partly to confuse others, and partly to test how easily they could dig through the pyramid’s structure and gain quick entrance.
