Chapter 1210: Chapter 616: I Really Didn’t Expect Him to Come!_2

This is an open conspiracy.

Their demands had been met and fulfilled by the opponent.

But the dangers and costs that came with this request, they had to bear themselves.

They were just a small figure, while the opponent was a general, and that place was his home ground. Going there to arm-wrestle with him was like an ant picking a fight with an elephant.

Sean Knight wasn’t one to act tough. Knowing full well the opponent’s strength and still charging head-on wasn’t being hard-headed; it was having water in the brain.

The tribal warriors assigned as guards were arranged by Elijah Hastings and others to stay nearby. Sean Knight provided them with excellent treatment – since they were there to protect him, Sean naturally wouldn’t be stingy in his expenditure on them.

This allowed these tribal residents to enjoy high-end services they had never experienced before, which made the tribal warriors who originally intended to face a trial by fire in this place a bit astonished and embarrassed.

This wasn’t what they had expected!

Of course, Sean explained to them that the trial would come, and it would be best to enter and leave safely. But the current enjoyment and protection in times of danger were unrelated.

The confused guards nodded their understanding and then continued to do their jobs as Sean had instructed.

Most of these tribal guards had never even been to the capital of their province, let alone Kabul, the capital city of the country.

Even if Kabul was in ruins, it was still the capital city, and certainly not comparable to a little broken-down tribe village. Thus, these tribal warriors all behaved quite normally – like farmers entering the city for the first time – which, in essence, they were.

Sean didn’t bother with them; after settling the guards and paying enough money to ensure their meals, by night, he and Elijah Hastings and the others left the hotel. Each person was dressed in robes, with headscarves and faces covered, and went to another hotel.

Although Sean and his team arrived separately, they were definitely unable to avoid the watchful eyes of those with intentions.

Even if Kabul was backward, it was still easy to check on people coming from the Northeast.

These guards were the biggest target and flaw.

However, as long as they stayed in the hotel, their safety should not be an issue.

After settling in the new hotel, Sean made a phone call.

Lincoln Harrington had arrived here two days in advance and started collecting intelligence.

Half an hour later, Lincoln arrived with a team member, also wrapped in robes and headscarves.

"Boss, the situation is as follows," Lincoln reported to Sean as soon as he saw him, "The current situation matches your speculation. We’ve indeed been outmaneuvered – no, overtly maneuvered. The original residents of that courtyard have indeed moved out. The furniture and everything else were removed. And when they left, they thoroughly searched the place, possibly causing some damage.

Now, there are still a few soldiers guarding inside that courtyard, probably to prevent others from entering and also to prepare for the official handover – at least if anyone comes, they will be detected.

Furthermore, there are people lurking around the big courtyard nearby, four groups, three people each. It’s not very tight; they’re just watching."

"How likely is it that we can sneak in secretly?" Sean asked. "I’m thinking that, if possible, we should go in as soon as possible to investigate inside. If we find any clues, that’s great. If not, we should leave here quickly."

After a moment’s thought, Lincoln said,

"If we have few people, it should be possible. The second half of the night would be best. But with fewer people, the search area will be large, and we probably won’t be able to cover it all in one night."

Sean relaxed and said,

"As long as we can take a look, it’s fine. There’s no point in delaying; we go now."

Sean’s decision surprised Elijah and Lincoln, but they quickly caught on.

The sooner such matters are addressed, the better.

Lincoln hadn’t mentioned how powerful the general was, but it was clear that they, with the strength of an enhanced company and no heavy weaponry, were in no position to be a match for the opponent.

It was evident that the opponent intended to set obstacles for them. Of course, to the general, these were minor obstacles. To ordinary people, they could spell the difference between life and death.

Even for Sean, if it came to a direct confrontation, pitting visible forces against each other, he would likely be defeated.

Of course, Sean had many ways to make the general disappear from this world without a trace, such as putting a reward on the dark web – but that would lead to endless troubles.

Never mind the success rate. After all, their organization, unlike before when they were outsiders, was now in power, officially a national force. If they used such methods to physically eliminate the opponent, the governing organization might suspect them and make Sean leave this place in disgrace.

He might even be unable to live in many areas and would have a persistent pursuit on his tail.

So, both sides would play their games along an unwritten, invisible line.

The opponent would set the board, and Sean would make his moves.

As long as they didn’t cross that line, anything was fair game. It was that simple.

Following Sean, Elijah, and Lincoln were the most elite they had picked from their team members.

The pickup truck that Lincoln had brought was fairly old and unremarkable, and as they drove through the main streets of Kabul, they really didn’t attract much attention.
