Chapter 1174: Chapter 604: Spit Out What You’ve Eaten of Mine! _2

"Find the most luxurious small building, let’s get close and take a look," Sean Knight said to the team member driving the car.

There was no need to search for the most luxurious small building; it was right in the center of the small town, next to where the shop once stood.

This place obviously had been razed and rebuilt; the house looked new and out of place next to the several old houses beside it.

Sean Knight activated Sky Eye and, unexpectedly yet logically, he saw Antony Carter!

In Antony Carter’s small building, two young girls leaned against him watching television. The decor inside was extremely luxurious—the kind of opulence typical of an upstart.

His viewpoint shifted, and then he saw a safe in the bedroom on the second floor, filled with a large quantity of cash, including US dollars, euros, RMB, yen, and some rough golden bars.

A few property deeds were placed at the very bottom of the safe.

He couldn’t understand the language that Antony Carter was speaking with the two girls he was embracing, but that didn’t hinder Sean Knight from concluding that Antony Carter had a hand in the trouble at the golden mine!

For this operation, Sean Knight had specifically brought a team member from the Mongolian Ethnic Group, however, he didn’t ask what Antony Carter and his group were saying.

Yen?

Seeing that stack of money, it was impossible for Sean Knight not to be concerned!

It seemed that Antony Carter had betrayed them. So, should they start with this guy?

After thinking for a while, Sean Knight said to the driver,

"Let’s take a look at the other small buildings."

The driver drove forward as Sean Knight requested, and as Sean Knight checked several more houses, he discovered that the people living inside these small buildings were more or less connected to the golden mine. The majority were former security guards, and a few were those who had originally joined to work at the mine.

Gang operation!

"Let’s rest first, drive the car out, find a place to hide, and scout the mine at night," Sean Knight didn’t believe that the mine would be very strictly managed. The most likely explanation for such infiltration was that the opposition did not often come here.

Since they were here now, they would clean out the whole nest!

The boss said whatever they had to do, and since Elijah Hastings hadn’t spoken, the other two team members naturally had no objections.

The car drove out of the small town without drawing anyone’s attention.

Several people found a patch of forest in the wilderness, had a simple dinner, and then discussed the plans for the night.

Sean Knight’s plan was for them to hide the car a few kilometers away from the golden mine at night, and then walk to the mine. The main goal was to find Edward Shermer.

Sean Knight suspected that Edward Shermer might be under house arrest, kidnapped, or had already been silenced.

Another goal was to clearly ascertain the situation inside the mine, to see whether it was outsiders who had come in, or if there was internal strife.

Of course, the ultimate aim was to act after getting a clear understanding of the situation.

As the sky darkened, they had dinner, and then drove around nearby looking for a suitable location.

Because of prior treasure hunting and surveying the mine, Sean Knight was quite familiar with the surroundings and quickly found a suitable place to hide the car in a hollow on the mountain.

The group of four geared up and set off towards the mine.

Distant howls of wolves quickened their pace.

This place really had packs of wolves. Once they grouped up, even bears would be afraid.

Originally, Elijah Hastings had advised Sean Knight to stay behind, arguing that the few of them could go. But naturally, Sean Knight wasn’t willing. With Sky Eye, he could observe more conveniently, and if he didn’t see for himself, he truly wouldn’t be at ease.

All four men were armed with guns—by now, Elijah Hastings and the others were no longer surprised that Sean Knight could provide weapons at a moment’s notice.

Even the most curious, Douglas Cooper, had once speculated whether Sean Knight had another smuggling route they didn’t know about. However, after a warning from Elijah Hastings, he kept silent.

This was good news indeed!

For them, being in an unfamiliar place, safety came from team members and the weapons in their hands.

Soon, they had already reached the periphery of the mine.

The area around the mining entrance had been surrounded by a wall, enclosing not only the pit, mining area, machinery workshop, but also a part of the living area.

To Sean Knight’s surprise, a row of two-story small buildings had been erected here. He couldn’t tell which engineering team had done the work, but it looked sturdy.

Looking down from above, the mine shaft had gone dark, the rumbling of the workshop had stopped, and only a few lights in the living area were still on.

From time to time, loud laughter from men and the screams of women could be heard from the living area, grating on the ears.

These sounds also caused the wolves in the distance to howl from time to time, but those wolves did not come closer.

Clearly, they had learned their lesson and knew they couldn’t take advantage here.

"Wait," Sean Knight said, "let’s go down when there’s no noise."

Although it was night, Sean Knight could still see, in the open field of vision, that outside the surrounded wall, traps had been set along the mountain paths.

If one accidentally stepped on these, they would surely make noise—they even came up with the idea of setting up iron wire mesh with cans tied to it, a tactic from the Korean War used by our Volunteer Army.

They were good learners indeed!

Slowly approaching the front, they had no immediate plans to enter the mining area.

"Be careful, there’s a trap ahead," the one who warned them was Elijah Hastings, "That spot has a pit covered with grass; if you fall in, you’ll be skewered!"

Although Elijah Hastings’s night vision wasn’t as good as Sean Knight’s, it was better than ordinary people’s, and he quickly found the first trap.

He went ahead and removed the grass covering the trap, and the team member wearing night vision goggles immediately saw the full view of the trap clearly.
