Chapter 1096: Chapter 578: So What If You Besiege Me?_2
"What can we do? The market conditions are just like this, and I came here prepared with 200,000 dollars to bid, but now it seems that this amount of money really isn’t enough to purchase land."
"Don’t be disheartened just yet, look there’s still ten hectares of land coming up..."
"I’ve looked at that parcel. Transportation around the land is well-developed. The original farm owner didn’t even take the tractor when leaving, and the facilities are very complete. That ten hectares of land, with the current market conditions, is worth at least 250,000..."
Andrew Petrov, holding a bottle, came over laughing:
"Young man, well done! I just can’t stand those people, you’ve slapped them in the face, and that makes me very happy! Congratulations!"
After he spoke, he took a big gulp of wine, patted Sean Knight on the shoulder, and returned to his seat.
The Jewish man glared at him, but Andrew didn’t care at all and just continued to mock the Jew.
Man number twelve still had a look of agony and was making a phone call on his mobile phone.
"Congratulations, Mr. Knight," Stella Gray also approached and said softly, "It’s just that now..."
"There’s nothing to be done about it," Sean Knight spread his hands and said, "I also didn’t expect the price would go so high..."
Stella had nothing to say. After all, it was Sean Knight who had placed the last bid, competing with the Jewish man. The matter of the high price wasn’t something that Sean had initiated.
"Next, we will proceed with the auction of Land No. 2..." The auctioneer’s voice interrupted Stella from continuing.
She braced herself, intending to plan carefully this time and striving to win a piece of land.
Land No. 2 covered a total of three hundred thousand hectares. This land was located more than thirty kilometers away from the Small Town where Sean Knight was, in another Small Town. The land was near a mountain, and the last season’s tobacco planting had been harvested, currently leaving the land fallow.
Because it was relatively far and transportation was not very convenient, the reserve price was set at 700,000 dollars.
"Let the auction begin..."
No sooner had the auctioneer spoken than a host of people started raising their cards!
"710,000 dollars!"
"725,000 dollars!"
"730,000 dollars!"
...
Less than a minute after the auctioneer’s voice, the price had already surged to 750,000 dollars, and there were still people continuously raising their cards.
The level of enthusiasm took even the auctioneer by surprise!
But then he was overjoyed!
The higher the auction price, the more commission he would receive!
Clearly, today was his lucky day!
The bidding had reached 870,000 dollars when the heat died down a bit.
At that moment, the man with card number twelve raised his bid:
"A million dollars!"
Everyone knew that, given the current trend of price increases, the final auction price of Land No. 2 would not be less than one and a half million dollars. However, when card number twelve suddenly increased the bid by 130,000 dollars to reach one million, this still shocked the crowd.
But when number twelve put forth this bid, he still had a look of bitterness, as if he didn’t believe he was doing something that would surprise everyone so much.
Half a minute later, Stella Gray raised her card:
"1.05 million dollars."
These two substantial increases in price caused many of the smaller land merchants and farm owners to withdraw their bids.
Their fortunes couldn’t support the price of this land any longer.
Then, about seven or eight merchants began to bid against each other in succession, and the price quickly rose to 1.2 million dollars.
This was roughly the average market price for land at the time.
But everyone knew that, starting from today, this price would become history. With this price, it would no longer be possible to buy land in the land market.
Andrew Petrov took a small sip of wine and then raised a card:
"1.3 million dollars!"
He had raised the bid by 100,000 dollars, similar to the move made previously by number twelve, but lacking the prior shock effect.
It only paused for seven or eight seconds before someone else spoke up:
"1.31 million dollars."
"1.33 million!"
The bidders were still excited at this point, up until the price reached 1.51 million dollars. That’s when Jew Nine made a move:
"1.58 million dollars!"
Honestly, the advantages of this piece of land weren’t great.
But people still fought hard for it.
Yet the more they bid, the more desperate they became, as they simply couldn’t compete with those big land merchants.
Man number twelve raised his card:
"1.6 million dollars."
"1.61 million." Andrew Petrov raised his hand again.
Surpassing him was Stella Gray:
"1.65 million dollars!" This was her maximum bid.
However, the voice of the Jewish man shattered her dream.
"1.66 million dollars."
Then Andrew Petrov called out another price:
"1.7 million dollars."
After calling out the bid, Andrew Petrov set down his bottle.
It was clear he meant that if anyone bid higher, he wouldn’t continue.
This was his final offer for Land No. 2.
Yet, the next bid from man number twelve disappointed him again:
"1.72 million dollars."
Man number twelve still looked bitter, not looking at anyone, as if this increase in price was going to cost him a lot.
The Jewish man raised the bid to 1.75 million dollars.
The rest of the people stopped talking, as in the eyes of many, this land simply wasn’t worth the price.
It was like the jadeite market of old, where brick material like the Tie Long life was bid to bean type prices.
People sighed, yet they knew the market conditions had changed.
Many looked toward Sean Knight.
