Chapter 1086: Chapter 575: Locals Competing for Land? Easy, Sorted!

Although it was getting late, there were still many people coming and going on the pier, with some trucks loading or unloading items onto the boat.

Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings quickly made their way to the cargo ship.

To Sean’s surprise, the two local guards watching over the cargo ship didn’t check their documents; after a glance at their faces, they let them aboard!

This was grossly negligent!

"It seems these guys are in a rush, now they don’t even have the manpower to arrange guards," Sean whispered to Elijah as they boarded, "Next, we’ll split up. You go find those Japanese and see if you can shake something loose. I’ll take a look around the ship and see if I can keep it from sailing."

The two men then split up and headed in different directions.

Sean quickly found the ship cabin and discovered that the cargo ship was actually quite simple; the deck was fitted with planks that, when lifted, revealed the cargo hold below, filled with a large quantity of food—soybean and corn.

Sean looked around nearby but couldn’t find any control mechanism.

Now, one of the four uniform cargo holds was half-ajar.

It wasn’t clear whether they were airing out the grain or if someone had left it open after an inspection.

Sean watched as flocks of birds flew in and out of the open hold, clearly feeding on the grain.

He didn’t hold back, approaching cautiously, bent over from the deck, then reached into the nearly fifteen-meter-high cabin brimming with soybeans.

And then those soybeans vanished.

However, what Sean hadn’t expected, or perhaps had overlooked, was that the sudden disappearance of several thousand tons of grain caused the entire ship to tilt sharply!

Under the violent shaking, Sean noticed that the covers on the other cargo holds weren’t sealed very tightly, either.

This was going to be easy!

As chaos broke out on the ship with people shouting and running about on deck, Sean slowly pushed open the cover of the adjacent hold—a crack wide enough to let him transfer the entire hold of corn into his spatial realm.

The big ship lurched violently, then gradually settled back to an even keel!

However, the crew, just getting used to the balance, started yelling again.

Maybe because of their experience, their first reaction was to run to the lower hold, thinking there was a leak or something similar.

No one would have thought the grain had disappeared.

Following the same method, Sean quickly gathered the remaining two holds of grain, then swiftly left and headed for the ship’s cabin entrance.

Now, the deck was full of people running in and out, with shouts in Portuguese, English, and Japanese.

Sean quickly spotted Elijah—he was following a Japanese man into the cabin.

No one was paying attention to him, nor to Sean.

The ship’s waterline suddenly became shallower—everyone knew something big had happened on board, and some of the more timid sailors had started to run down.

Sean didn’t follow Elijah but noted there were only two or three Japanese on board, not many.

The lion’s share was secured; Sean didn’t care much about the rest.

About fifteen minutes later, Sean stood at the disembarkation point on the deck and saw Elijah coming out with a box in hand.

"Boss, let’s go," Elijah nodded and said, "That’s all there is to it."

The two quickly got off the boat and then back into the off-road vehicle.

"The captain of this ship is Brazilian, but this Japanese man owns this batch of grain; he was going to accompany it to Japan. I found his room and discovered these items," Elijah explained as he opened the box.

The box contained several dozen golden bars, a neatly packed box, and a stack of greenbacks.

It was obvious that despite the economic downturn, the Japanese still preferred greenbacks when abroad.

At a glance, the money amounted to approximately a hundred thousand dollars.

Sean picked up the neatly packed box and opened it to find a pair of gold bracelets set with gems of various colors, very antique and unlike contemporary styles.

"These are nice pieces," Sean said with a smile, "You guys can divide up the rest; the bracelet is mine."

"All right, then we are getting a bargain," Elijah said with a laugh as he closed the box.

Every time they followed the boss, they would make a great profit, which Elijah and the others were used to.

Although there was definitely more to gain, the three of them had tacitly agreed that this was their reward for the trip.

Anything else the boss gave them was extra, but now that they had taken the money, the boss had fulfilled his obligation once again.

They would never entertain the idea that by working for him, if he became wealthy, he had to share a corresponding part with them, like the bizarre behavior of a tenant who lived in a house for over a decade and demanded half of the compensation when the landlord’s property was demolished because they claimed to have grown attached to the house.

In this regard, old man Ye was an example to follow.

The pier was in chaos, with many local policemen running to the big ship to maintain order. Many sailors seemed to have realized the problem, running down from the ship or shouting on the deck, attracting even more people.

Sean and his party, however, left as if it were none of their concern, driving the off-road vehicle out of the harbor and toward Little Town.

By the time they reached Little Town, it was very late.

As they entered the courtyard, Lincoln Harrington called out from the entrance:

"Boss, Captain Hastings, is that you?"
