Chapter 1087: Chapter 575: Locals Seizing Land? Easy, Sorted!_2

"It’s us," Elijah Hastings stuck his head out, "You okay?"

"It’s nothing, just got here today, a little cautious is all," Lincoln Harrington responded.

After getting out of the car, Sean Knight said:

"Since we’ve already occupied the place, we’ll make a phone call back to China tonight and get 200 people over here."

"200 people? Isn’t that a bit too much?" asked Douglas Cooper, coming out upon hearing the conversation.

"How did your research go this time?" Sean Knight countered.

"Not too well. Although it isn’t the planting season right now, some of the land has already been taken by other locals. They’re claiming that the land is theirs now. And if anyone tries to take their land, they said they’ll make them pay... in blood."

"Isn’t that just perfect? Without armed personnel, are the four of us supposed to reclaim the land? We probably won’t even get to show our faces before becoming missing persons. Our security company is registered internationally, after all. As soon as our men arrive, they can carry guns; and with guns, whom would we need to fear?"

The logic was sound, and Douglas Cooper came to the realization as well.

Right, we’ve got people, so why would we need to fight it out with just four?"

"Also, we’ll use the money from the car to bribe the local administrators here. As long as we’ve got them on side, the locals should be more compliant," Sean Knight added. "Then we tell them our farming efforts will hire locals and pay well."

"With that mentioned, the locals should be more willing," Elijah Hastings said. "After all, our international reputation isn’t too bad, certainly better than Japan’s."

"Let’s hope for that. We don’t want to go to extremes unless absolutely necessary," Sean Knight said. "We need this land for planting crops, not for selling. Given the current international situation, food will become real hard currency."

"Alright, let’s get some good rest. Tomorrow we’ll divide up tasks and first aim to get the mayor of this small town on our side. That way, when the planting season starts, we can begin to put in the labor."

The night passed without incident, and Mary Powell, who was asleep, was completely unaware of this matter.

The second day, Mary Powell led Sean Knight and the others to the mayor of Little Town.

"You are the land’s new owners now?" The mayor, a local, looked at the documents they presented and didn’t take them immediately but said, "I can’t decide on this matter by myself, after all..."

He didn’t finish his sentence before Douglas Cooper handed him a thick envelope.

The envelope wasn’t sealed, and seeing the greenbacks peeking out, the mayor’s heart was heavily swayed!

The money in the envelope amounted to two or three years of his wages!

"You are the rightful landowners with complete documentation, of course, I believe you. However, you’ll still need to proceed with change of ownership procedures at the city management department. Otherwise, some trouble may arise. Luckily, my cousin works there; I can make a phone call for you..."

Having connections sure did make things easier!

Sean Knight and his team simply made rounds at all six towns, familiarizing themselves regardless of its immediate usefulness.

The next day, they headed for the city.

Thanks to the call from Max Campbell, the previous mayor, his cousin Duterte Rogers was extremely helpful.

Of course, a thick bundle of cash also played its part.

The procedures proceeded swiftly, and in less than a day, over 1,000 square kilometers, or over 100,000 hectares, or more than 1 million and close to 2 million acres of land now belonged to Sean Knight.

"If you’re still interested in land," Mr. Rogers said, seeing their exceptional generosity, "our city will soon auction off some plots. Although fragmented, all combined, they amount to over 10,000 hectares..."

"Thank you so much!" said Sean Knight after hearing Mary Powell’s translation, and immediately pulled out another wad of cash to hand over, "Be sure to notify us when the auction starts."

"Of course, of course, I’ll reserve a good spot for you!" Duterte discreetly pocketed the cash, "Mr. Knight, you’re very generous!"

As they left the office building, Mary Powell, somewhat puzzled, asked:

"Mr. Knight, those lands will be quite scattered and hard to manage, won’t they?"

Sean Knight just smiled, saying nothing.

It was Douglas Cooper who cleared up the confusion, drawing Mary closer and explaining:

"Powell, think about it—if the boss brings in 200 veterans as security personnel and gets the farming on that over 1,000-square-kilometer farmland going, then who would dare mess with these leftover scraps, even if we lease them out?"

With that explanation, Mary instantly understood!

Besides, we Chinese have had a deep connection to land since our ancestors.

Land privatization is strictly off the table back in China.

But abroad, if buying land is allowed, then it’s like Han Xin leading troops—the more the better!

This was spot on!

Mary quickly grasped the situation and then had a personal request for Sean Knight:

"Mr. Knight, can I work with you guys?"

"Of course," Sean Knight laughed, "you’re already part of our team."

"Then, may I make a small request?" Mary asked a bit shyly.

"Go ahead."

"Well... could I... could I have my reward converted into land at the end? I know the land here isn’t cheap, and I don’t want much, just a few tens of acres will do after the work is done!"
