Chapter 1070: Chapter 569: The Poisonous Scorpions are Gone, So What About the Other Poisons?_3

Sean Knight’s reasons were compelling, and the team members didn’t dare to take it lightly; they immediately climbed up the stairs that had been dug out of the pit.

The giant scorpion below had sensed the vibrations above and stopped digging downward, instead turning its tail around, ready to make a desperate struggle!

At that moment, suddenly there was no more movement above, and it was quite confused!

Then it moved slightly, and the several dozens of scorpions the size of palms immediately scattered out, quickly filling the bottom of the pit!

"Whoa! Such big scorpions!"

The team members were startled by the sudden appearance of the scorpions.

If they hadn’t climbed up just now, wouldn’t this sudden appearance have given them quite a shock?

If they got stung, even if they could be saved afterward, wouldn’t that be extremely painful?

"Switch to high-top boots!" the director immediately ordered, "Get ready for protection!"

He turned his head to look at Sean Knight. He thought that Sean wanted these scorpions, so he didn’t say it outright, looking to see if Sean wanted them alive or dead.

"Burn them," Sean Knight said. "The big one hasn’t come out yet; these must be the guards!"

"Burn!" As soon as the director heard Sean’s order to burn them, he immediately gave the command.

With so many of these creatures, capturing them alive would not be easy. Getting stung would be really uncomfortable!

Although some team members felt it was a pity to burn the scorpions, once the order was given, there was nothing more to be said.

A flame soldier came over, and with one burst of flame, all the scorpions were cooked.

After a while, when the pit had cooled down, Sean Knight said:

"Let’s go, we’re going down."

Elijah Hastings immediately followed suit. By now, Sean Knight had also changed into high-top boots, donned anti-stab gloves, and carried a big jar.

The giant scorpion was nearly done for—the flamethrowers had been directed to avoid its location as much as possible under Sean’s guidance.

But since military equipment, after all, isn’t subtle, a blast of that flame had dried out everything below!

If it weren’t for its hard shell, and the desperate digging it did just now, it might have been ready to have its shell peeled away and dipped in vinegar.

The other team members also jumped down.

Sean Knight used a short shovel to dig in the soil a couple of times, revealing the tail of the giant scorpion.

"Whoa! This one is really big!" a team member blurted out. "It’s practically bewitched!"

"No, no, it’s not bewitched," Sean Knight said, laughing. "After the founding of the country, becoming bewitched was banned, don’t you know?"

"Hahaha!" Everyone burst into laughter.

Elijah held down the scorpion’s tail and dug a few more times, revealing the giant scorpion’s true form.

While pressing down on the tail, Sean Knight grabbed the scorpion’s body and shoved it straight into the big glass jar.

"This one must be at least half a meter long, right?" Team members marveled at the somewhat wilted scorpion now trapped in the jar.

"About that, including the head and tail," Sean Knight hadn’t thought specifically how to make use of the scorpion.

After all, such a creature was certainly rare.

Carrying the big jar back to the campground, the people there withdrew.

Defeating one of the several major poisonous insects so easily also gave everyone a great boost in morale.

"Indeed, there’s strength in numbers! The poisonous scorpions that chased us into such a miserable state before are nothing after all!" Douglas Cooper said, holding the jar and laughing.

"Don’t let your guard down; I think the biggest threat is still that snake," Lincoln Harrington reminded them.

"Don’t worry, even if they are formidable, they can’t withstand a flame thrower!"

The afternoon went according to plan and in order. Without the threat of scorpions, more team members joined in the process of clearing the ruins.

More sand was piled onto the quicksand area.

"Boss, how big is the hollow space under this quicksand? We’ve dumped so much sand into it; why hasn’t it filled up yet?"

"I don’t know either," Sean Knight shook his head and said, "Anyway, there’s still plenty of sand in the city, keep filling it, it’ll be full one day."

The area of quicksand was smaller than the space occupied by the scorpions, but with truckloads of sand dumped on it, it quickly sank, keeping the surface level.

If it were just a few trucks, or several tens of trucks of sand, that would be one thing. Now, with 500 trucks of sand deposited, and still no change at the quicksand, that began to seem strange.

Under Sean Knight’s Sky Eye, the sand fell into crevices that appeared bottomless.

The animals and human bones that had initially been trapped in the quicksand had also sunk below with the sand.

Sean Knight recalled one of the important reasons why people had built a city here: the protection offered by the quicksand, which had trapped many.

In the city, nearly one-third of the team members were armed with flamethrowers and other equipment, guarding against poisonous snakes and poisonous insects.

But even as the sun set and the team members wrapped up for the day, those poisonous creatures didn’t show up.

This surprised them greatly but also made them very happy.

"Today we cleared about one-tenth of the rooms in the city. We unearthed 591 pieces of goldware, 1347 pieces of silverware, 993 pieces of bronze ware, and thousands of pieces of pottery and other items.

Also, within the cleared rooms, we discovered eleven locations that are suspected to be secret underground chambers. Concerned about the potential release of poisonous insects, we did not open them. We have now marked them and plan to open them one by one after we finish clearing the surface."

Sean Knight was quite satisfied with such a report.

The expenses of the day were about one percent of these findings.

We’ve struck it rich!

And this was only the harvest from one-tenth of the entire city!

No, not even close to one-tenth!

The items in those secret chambers might be the lion’s share!

"Tonight, let’s have an extra meal, let everyone replenish their nutrients well—give each person a bottle of beer! Once we finish all this work, everyone will get a big red envelope,"

Sean Knight was happy, so naturally, he was also generous.

"But keep the sentries alert," Elijah Hastings reminded, "just in case something happens at night."

The campground was only several hundred meters from the ancient city ruins. Using the broken wooden planks from the houses, they set up bonfires, and the team members ate and drank happily, in high spirits.

At midnight, Sean Knight suddenly opened his eyes.

He felt a little uneasy and stood up to leave the tent.

Looking towards the city, he couldn’t see anything because of the obstruction from the city walls.

But Sean Knight felt like something was moving over there.

He walked towards the ancient city.

A few dozen meters away from the campground, a few sentries patrolled the area.

In Sean Knight’s ears, the sound of motion grew louder.

But the sentries didn’t react.

Did he hear wrong?
