Chapter 1069: Chapter 569: The Poisonous Scorpions are gone, so what about other poisons?_2
...
In the morning, the city cleanup unearthed about twenty courtyards and over two hundred metal artifacts made of gold, silver, copper, and the like.
Some pottery jars and the like were temporarily placed to the side, not being taken away.
The cooking class brought over the food, and the director blew the whistle to let everyone rest, getting ready to eat.
The Scorpion Cave cleanup was also nearing completion; most people had withdrawn, and hardly any scorpions were pouring out of the cave anymore, so only a few remained on guard, narrowing the range of attack.
"The cooking class really consists of former army cooks," the director came over to report to Sean Knight, "Cooking food prepared in a large canteen cauldron goes without saying. A catering company offered him eight thousand a month to be a head chef. But since he needed to buy a home and get married, he joined our company."
"Then I definitely have to try it for myself," Sean said with a smile, "Now our place really is full of crouching tigers and hidden dragons."
Seeing everyone eating their food and some team members still on duty by the Scorpions, Sean walked over there.
A strong burnt odor mixed with a faint scent of meat wafted through the air.
The scorched scorpions were mostly dead, with only a few not completely burnt trying to struggle amid the rubble.
Now, the scorpions’ range of activity had been greatly reduced, and hardly any live scorpions could be seen. The occasional one or two that did emerge were not attacking people, but fleeing in panic.
Sean activated Sky Eye to check the area and saw that there were indeed hardly any living scorpions left in this part of the cave.
He continued looking deeper, and then a startling scene caught his eye!
Below the largest cavity, about five or six meters down, a semi-transparent yellow-brown giant scorpion the size of an adult’s arm was burrowing a hole, desperately tunnelling underground!
Around it were several dozen palm-sized black scorpions that seemed to be guarding it.
Following its trail, Sean saw many more holes hiding scores of scorpions the size of green beans—apparently newly born.
Expanding his view, he noticed a few scorpions as small as bees in other cavities, probably juveniles hiding out.
This was truly a decimated colony.
Sean told the team members who were still on guard,
"The danger here has been cleared. Just leave one or two people here; the rest can go eat."
The team members hesitated, as although Sean was the boss, their direct orders came from the director.
Understanding this, Sean said to one of them,
"Go and report to your monitor, tell him what I said."
After that, not bothering with the team members any longer, he picked up a short shovel and started digging into the sand below.
He was curious about the giant mother scorpion and wanted to dig it out.
After all, he had never seen such a large scorpion before.
And Sean didn’t plan to let it escape—who knew if it would regroup and attack again!
Soon, the team members found the squad monitor who reported to the platoon leader and the team leader, eventually reaching the director.
The director was discussing the next step with Elijah Hastings and turned to him when he heard the report.
"Let’s follow the boss’s orders," Elijah said with a smile, "There’s nobody better at sensing danger than our boss. By the way, what’s the boss doing?"
"Digging in the sand."
"Let’s go check it out."
When Elijah and the others arrived, Sean had already dug out a sizable hollow place.
The team members certainly couldn’t just stand by and watch him dig; they also pitched in, and there was now a pit about one and a half meters deep and over two meters in diameter.
Occasional young scorpions were dug up and placed in glass bottles by one of the team members using chopsticks.
"These bugs are delicious fried in oil. They’re also great for making wine!"
Well, that was also true.
"Boss, are you trying to see the scorpion’s nest?" Elijah asked jokingly.
"I think there might be a big one underneath," Sean said, "otherwise these scorpions wouldn’t be so obedient, attacking and retreating all at once." He commented as he watched so many people digging, then stepped up out of the hole.
"You might be onto something," Elijah considered and agreed.
From what he could recall in the movie "Empire of the Poisonous Scorpions," there was a bug that acted as a brain, ruling over the others.
Like ants or bees, there was always a queen present.
Before long, the hole was two to three meters deep, and the entrance had expanded significantly.
The team member’s glass bottle had already filled two and he was onto his third.
Sean could see the adult scorpion was aware of the noise above and was frantically burrowing deeper.
Unfortunately, the scorpion’s holes were originally only three to four meters deep, and now as it dug deeper, the soil was hard and progress was slow.
Even with many scorpions helping, it wasn’t much faster.
Seeing this, Sean was essentially reassured.
The scorpion might be very poisonous, but as long as it could be dug out, there would be numerous ways to prepare or protect against it. It wouldn’t be an issue to handle.
Half an hour later, the team members experienced in soil work had already dug to less than twenty centimeters above the giant scorpion.
"Be careful, everyone come up," Sean suddenly said, "There should be a big creature underneath. You see, the dug entrance is wide, and also, that soil is fresh. Come up quickly and get ready to guard!"
