Chapter 1068: 569 Chapter - The Poisonous Scorpions are gone, so what about other poisons?

Teams of team members bypassed the quicksand and assembled at the city gate entrance, then starting from one courtyard to the next, they began clearing out the sand.

To prevent an excess accumulation of sand, some pushed carts to specifically clear the sand to the outside of the ancient city, piling it on top of the quicksand.

Red flags were also planted around the periphery of the quicksand as a warning.

Ahead of these people were the neatly arranged firepower team members.

In their hands, they held flame throwers or equipment like incendiary bombs.

There were also drones that had already flown over the pyramid, beginning their reconnaissance. Next to the small drones, there were several larger ones, each carrying medicinal cans filled with pesticides.

These drones, which are very common domestically in China, were about to play an unimaginable role here.

Over by Scorpion Cave, dozens of team members had already begun operating the drones to spray insecticide over the area.

Immediately, countless scorpions sensed danger and emerged from the cave, swarming towards the team members.

Then, what met them were bursts of flame—faced with fire, the scorpions had no power to resist and were instantly turned into charred husks.

The supply of scorpions was incessant, and one after another, the team members burned through the fuel they carried for their flame throwers.

More cars kept coming with spare canisters.

Soon, the remains of those scorpions started piling high.

Some scorpions began to dig underground, trying to attack the team members from below.

But the fewer numbers that managed to emerge from the holes couldn’t even penetrate the team members’ sturdy boot soles with their stingers.

Immediately, team members, equipped with sprayers and wearing gas masks, began spraying insecticide on the ground.

The scorpions were no match, and amid repeat slaughters, some scorpions began to flee towards distant places.

They lacked much intelligence, and usually acted under the command of their ruler.

But at this time, the threat of death was greater than the ruler’s intimidation over them, and their organizational structure had begun to collapse.

Seeing that the situation here remained stable, Sean Knight finally set his mind at ease.

"Indeed, human labor and technology are formidable," Sean Knight remarked. "If it were just the four of us facing so many scorpions, we would have had no choice but to run."

"It’s a bit of a pity," Elijah Hastings said as he looked at the many scorpions. "They could be eaten, and even made into medicine, but it’s just not feasible to keep them around."

"Heh," Douglas Cooper replied to Elijah’s lament with a cold laugh.

They then proceeded towards the city gate.

Specialists here were responsible for registration, and from time to time, someone would report their findings loudly:

"One silver plate!"

"One golden cup!"

"Three golden rings!"

"Twelve golden coins!"

"Two silver forks!"

"One copper pot!"

"One set of skeletons..."

Okay, that last one wasn’t supposed to be included.

All these findings would be recorded for a final tally.

Looking at the courtyards that had been largely cleared out, Sean Knight exclaimed:

"It’s our people who are formidable..."

"It’s still average now," said Elijah Hastings proudly. "In the past, soil work in the basic army units was a commonplace! Now, it’s about combat effectiveness. Some things they don’t let us do anymore, and the younger ones are getting rusty..."

Sean Knight hadn’t been a soldier, but he could tell from Elijah’s words that the soil work done by soldiers in the past was indeed impressive.

He suddenly remembered the novel he had read about the Anti-Japanese War, with tactics of soil work advancing to within thirty meters of the enemy’s position to throw hand grenades.

Yeah, that’s plausible.

Sand was carted out and piled up, and little by little, each courtyard was cleared.

The extermination of the scorpions was also proceeding in an orderly manner, and the scorpions were indeed numerous.

Almost an hour had passed, and the scorpions continued to emerge in an endless stream.

Luckily, that spatial realm was almost half the size of a football field; otherwise, the scorpion carcasses would have piled into a small hill.

On the road inside the city gate, big boxes were lined up in a row, with two registrars beside each box to keep records.

Whenever a box was full, someone would immediately come to close and seal it, along with two copies of the list sealed inside, and then the box would be wheeled out to the container trucks outside the city gate on carts.

Each task force continued their work in an organized fashion.

After Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings surveyed the scorpion extermination battlefield, they went straight into the city.

Because compared to scorpions, which are relatively easy to directly attack on the surface, finding the poison beetles was harder.

One knows the poisonous snakes came out of the pyramid, so prioritizing defense against them was sufficient.

But where did the poison beetles come from?

Sean didn’t know!

These creatures were hidden deep underground, and even after scanning such a large area previously, Sean had found nothing.

While the team members were clearing the courtyards, they might suddenly encounter them.

As Sean and his team entered the city, they could still hear team members quietly discussing:

"So this is what an ancient Egyptian city looks like? It doesn’t seem much different from the small cities we’ve excavated back home, does it?"

"The eras are different, as are the architectural styles."

"Let’s be more meticulous in our work. Maybe later these will become historic relics for tourists to visit. Be careful not to damage anything."

"These ancient people were really rich. Every household has nice things."

"Who knows whom they plundered it from; this feels a bit abnormal..."

"Whatever! Let’s focus on our own tasks. Earning five times the daily wages here, we work one day and it’s like a month’s wages back in China. Cut the chatter!"
