Chapter 1060: Chapter 566 This Harvest Shocked Everyone!_2

Instead, at the northwest corner of the ruins, there was a highterrace that seemed to be a pyramid.

However, no matter what building it was, at this time there was a layer of sand covering it, and Sean Knight had to go step by step to explore the specifics.

After walking no more than several meters, they finally discovered, beneath the sand on the main road, two prostrate bodies—mummies.

From the clothing on these bodies, they appeared to be adventurers who had come here in recent years.

Sean Knight speculated that the cause of death was probably poisoning or burial by windsand.

After all, there were no gunshots or other severe wounds on the bodies.

Advancing further, they found four more bodies.

How did these adventurers die right on this road?

Moreover, looking at the direction in which they had fallen, they all appeared to have collapsed while attempting to flee outward.

Could something have been pursuing them?

Sean Knight looked left and right and noticed with puzzlement that there were also skeletons inside the fragmented buildings on either side. Although the daily utensils in these buildings were destroyed, at least the fragments remained.

And there were many gold and silver ware!

From what the buildings suggested, this was clearly an ordinary household.

Had a branch of ancient Egypt been this extravagant? To think that an ordinary household would have so many gold and silver artifacts!

From what Sky Eye revealed, there was at least seven pieces of silverware and two pieces of goldware in this family of four’s house!

In that era, how could an ordinary family have been so wealthy?

Sean Knight was truly surprised!

He continued to move forward and then saw that the buildings on both sides of the road—essentially every house had skeletons.

This basically confirmed that this section of the ancient city ruins had been suddenly destroyed, likely by a massive sandstorm.

Some of these skeletons were complete mummies; others were already incomplete. However, the items inside each house remained mostly intact, and every family possessed varying amounts of gold and silver ware.

On the other hand, other daily goods looked relatively simple.

Sean Knight had begun to form a hypothesis in his mind, which was essentially confirmed as he kept moving toward the center of the city.

The center of the city housed those with relatively grand buildings and richer furnishings.

In these households, buried under windsand, there were more various utensils, and a significant proportion of them were made of gold.

In the backyard of one storefront, Sean Knight even found close to forty to fifty pieces of gold and silver utensils!

If not for Sky Eye’s flawless track record, Sean Knight might have even thought he was seeing things!

Along the way, the gold and silver utensils inside the rooms on both sides added up to almost 500 pieces!

Although these items were relatively small and thinly crafted, with the largest being only the size of plates and bowls, their combined weight amounted to several dozens of kilograms!

Taking this into account, how many gold and silver artifacts were hidden in this city!

Could this be the legendary Golden City?

Sean Knight walked around in other directions and found the same scene everywhere.

He finally approached the highterrace near the northwest corner of the city.

The highterrace jutted out of the surface of the sand, about twenty meters tall; based on the parts not completely covered by sand, one could tell it was a pyramidal stone platform.

Near the highterrace stood two symmetrical square stone houses.

Now, only about half a meter of the stone houses was visible above the sand that had buried them.

Looking through the stone house with Sky Eye, he saw a very strange statue inside.

This statue was made of obsidian, depicting a person with legs astride, looking up to the heavens, holding a gigantic golden plate high above.

Beneath his feet lay a dozen large and small pyramids!

Under the statue, there was a staircase leading downwards. It must be a secret chamber.

However, as Sky Eye’s ability to see underground had its limits, Sean Knight couldn’t make out what lay beneath the chamber.

Sean Knight quickly climbed up the structure suspected to be a pyramid, looked back towards Elijah Hastings and the others, and saw that nobody was coming over.

After pondering for a moment, he descended from the highterrace and took an iron shovel from his spatial realm, beginning to dig up the sand at the entrance of the stone house.

The sand was very loose, and Sean Knight quickly cleared away the layer of sand above the door of the house.

Subsequently, the broken entrance became visible, alongside sand continuing to pour inside.

Sean Knight estimated the dimensions of the entrance, dug a bit further down, and, feeling he could now crawl through, stowed the iron shovel, and bent down to enter the doorway.

Sliding down the sand, he emerged at the feet of the statue.

Once inside the room, it was clear that the statue stood over three meters tall. How was it possible to have such a large piece of obsidian during that era?

Sean Knight examined the statue and found that it, along with the base, was placed inside the room. He approached and touched it, and the statue was absorbed into his spatial realm.

With the statue’s disappearance, a hidden cave entrance below was revealed.

Sean Knight glanced at the rest of the room and noticed nothing else but a decayed wooden bed and a small table. It was remarkably clean.

He then stepped onto the staircase inside the cave and descended.

The stairs were not steep, but there were many steps, and it was evident they wound downward in a spiral fashion.

The deeper he went, the more humid the underground became. A few minutes later, before reaching the bottom, water droplets began to seep out of the walls.

Continuing the spiraling descent, the air gradually dried—Sean Knight surmised there must be ventilation below, or else the air wouldn’t be so fresh.

At least it wasn’t unpleasant to breathe.
