Chapter 1059: Chapter 566 This Harvest Shocked Everyone!
The windsand grew stronger, and the off-road vehicle, after traveling several dozen kilometers, had to stop at a little mound.
"This car is done for." Inside the car, Douglas Cooper listened to the snapping sounds outside, resembling dense bullets attacking the car’s shell, and sighed as he spoke.
"First, let’s think about how we can safely get through this windsand again." Elijah Hastings leaned against the car window, squinting and peering outside:
"This place doesn’t feel very safe either, the sands ahead are piling up towards us with force. Once it’s higher than the off-road vehicle, it’ll bury us."
"There are animals seeking shelter outside." Lincoln Harrington also pressed close to the glass to look out, "Not sure if they’re wolves or other wild animals, there are more than a dozen of them, their eyes gleaming green."
"Wolves, as well as hyenas and desert foxes," Sean Knight checked through Sky Eye, and said:
"Under the formidable power of nature, these animals have already ceased attacking each other. This place is still temporarily safe—at least in the desert, they understand better than we do where to shelter from the windsand."
The windsand continued until the latter half of the night when it gradually stopped. On the upwind side, the off-road vehicle was already half-buried in sand.
The little animal species that had sought shelter here were now nowhere to be seen.
After getting out of the car, Sean and his team only encountered some scared desert scorpion lizards preparing to flee.
They took out their tools and quickly cleared the sand beside the car to ensure that the vehicle could drive out normally.
At that time, the horizon slowly showed the first light of dawn.
"Let’s not leave now, just set up a tent on top of the car, rest well, eat well, and then we’ll set off," Sean looked around and made this decision.
In such an unfamiliar environment, having just experienced a sandstorm, no one knew what would come next, so it was imperative to maintain ample physical strength at all times, which everyone understood clearly.
They quickly set up the tent, covering the vehicle while also leaving enough space for movement, and then began to eat.
No one spoke much, and after eating, they spread out their sleeping bags under the tent and began to rest.
Sean couldn’t sleep and didn’t feel tired, so he decided to look around while there was time.
The small mound was covered by sand and had become the largest sand dune nearby.
Sean slowly climbed the sand dune, looking into the distance.
The sun had not yet risen; without the direct influence of the sunlight, the view was very open. Looking back, the road they had come from was no longer clear. Sean looked in the southwest direction, wanting to see how far away his destination was.
What surprised him was that less than 0.6 miles from here, there was a large area composed of hundreds of sand dunes of various sizes.
The contours formed by those sand dunes resembled, as if a sand plate had been magnified many times, a perfect square city wall with some protruding buildings.
Could that be the place he was looking for?
After all, the sand dunes in other areas were wave-like, layer upon layer.
Only the sand in that area was completely different from the rest.
"You guys rest here for now; I’m going to take a look over there." Sean told Elijah, then jumped down from the sand dune and walked in that direction.
"Boss, be careful," Elijah reminded him.
"Don’t worry, my life is precious to me." Sean joked and then strode toward that area.
The sun had not yet risen, and the air wasn’t very hot. Along the way, small animals and even insects were seen foraging or fleeing on the sand.
Underneath the sand, creatures like vipers and other poisons were lying in ambush.
The journey was fraught with danger.
Approaching the area suspected to be the ancient city ruins, Sean encountered another vast expanse of quicksand.
On the surface, this expanse of quicksand did not seem much different from other areas, with plenty of animal paw prints nearby.
But through Sky Eye, Sean could see many small and large animals that had sunk under the quicksand, and in many places, there were human bones.
He thought for a moment and made small markers with the sand in the safe areas around the quicksand and wrote the word "danger."
It was to prevent Elijah and the others, in case they followed him later, from stepping into it, which could cause a lot of trouble.
By passing this expanse of quicksand, Sean reached the area suspected to be the ruins.
Once there, Sean became even more certain that whether or not it was the place he was seeking, it was indeed an ancient city ruin.
What puzzled Sean was that at the position akin to the entrance of an ancient city, there were two god statues resembling the ancient Egyptian Death God Anubis with a jackal’s head and a human body!
What was the situation? Since when did the Death God become a gatekeeper?
In films and shows, didn’t Sean always see the god statues of Anubis standing with weapons?
These two Anubis statues were perched atop a stone platform nearly two meters high. Now, both the stone platform and the statues were in ruins.
The Anubis on the right had even lost half of its head, with only a mouth showing on the outside.
The Anubis on the left, apart from lacking ears, still had its other parts intact.
Sean looked around and did not find any stone mountain or similar items, but both the entrance statues and the surrounding wall beside the statues were constructed from massive square stones.
Where did these stones come from?
It could be discerned from the patterns of sand covering the buildings that this ruin site was quite square. The road at the entrance led straight to the exit on the opposite side, and to Sean’s surprise, there seemed to be no divine temple in the center of the city.
