Chapter 196. First Sparring Session

Chapter 196: Chapter 196. First Sparring Session

The next day, Xin Wuming followed Amon’s order and publicly issued a challenge to Gao Dou. The fight was to be held one week from now in the arena.

Based on Amon’s order, Xin Wuming didn’t announce who would fight Gao Dou in the arena. But since the news of Amon’s return had spread, everyone believed Amon would be the one fighting to take revenge on the previous loss suffered by the Vicious faction.

The noble faction didn’t immediately give a reply, but Amon wasn’t worried about it. He didn’t think Gao Dou would reject it. If he did, people would interpret it as Gao Dou being afraid of the number one freshman student in the academy. This would result in the Noble faction losing prestige while the Vicious faction gaining one.

While Xin Wuming had their members spreading the word, Amon went to the building that housed practice class. It had been five months since he entered the academy. Practice class had a sparring session that took place every three months. Students were given academic points based on their performance during the spar.

Amon couldn’t join the first sparring session due to being out on a mission. So, he came here to do this sparring session.

Amon asked about the sparring session to an administrator at the lobby. The administrator recorded his data and gave him directions to a training room. Amon followed the directions and came upon a large hall filled with students practicing.

’Hm? Could that administrator give me the wrong direction?’ Amon thought. The spar session should be done in a private room.

He then noticed one of the instructors in the room was someone he recognized. The instructor also noticed him.

"Ah, you are here. Good! I have asked my people to point you to me when you show up," An Guan said. "I heard you have paid the 10,000 academic points debt I gave you as punishment?"

"I did," Amon confirmed.

"I must admit, I am genuinely impressed that you can clear up that debt so soon. I just hope you don’t do anything that forces me to give you more punishment."

Amon didn’t comment on that.

"Well, I assume you come here for your sparring session, don’t you?" An Guan asked.

"I am," Amon answered.

"All right, then. Baili...!" An Guan shouted.

One of the other instructors at the other end of the hall looked over after hearing An Guan’s voice. He walked over. When he came near, Amon recognized this person as the one who had come flying with An Guan when the Vicious and Noble factions were having the brawl. His name was Yong Baili.

"Baili, spar with this boy to grade his points," An Guan said.

"Huh? Why me? Isn’t sparring with freshman students the job of junior instructors?" Yong Baili asked.

"He is the number one student from the freshman batch. Aren’t you interested in testing him?" An Guan asked.

"Sir, I am an intermediate Spirit stage. He is just at the peak Strength stage. How is he able to show any prowess against me? How am I grading him if he is unable to do anything?"

"Can we speed this up?" Amon asked. "I don’t have all day."

Both An Guan and Yong Baili turned to him. "Damn, kid. You are as arrogant as the rumor," An Guan said.

"I am just being honest," Amon said and folded his arms.

"Li Shi said that it was all because of you that she was able to survive those rebel scums. So, I will let your insolence slide. Now, Baili, spar with him, please. I will give you full authority to determine his academic points after the spar."

"Fine," Baili said. "But we will do it here. I also don’t have the time to look for another room to spar."

"All right. Everyone, move aside! Give them some space!" An Guan bellowed.

The freshman students who were still practicing immediately moved back to the walls, leaving the center part empty. Yong Baili walked to the center and waved at Amon to approach.

"Attack me with all you have. You can use everything at your disposal," Yong Baili said.

"Even weapons?" Amon asked.

"Even weapon," Yong Baili nodded.

"Don’t worry about the spectators," An Guan said. His aura then spread over the room, forming some sort of a protective field between the two at the center and the students who stood near the walls.

’Hm... Perhaps I can use this match to test my rope dart technique,’ Amon thought.

"What is my objective? Do I have to leave a scratch on you or something like that?" Amon asked.

"Leave a scratch. That’s funny," Yong Baili chuckled.

"There is no objective. Just attack Baili with everything you got. We will grade you based on your performance. You will just get zero points if the objective is to scratch him," An Guan said.

"All right," Amon said. A knife materialized in his hand as he finished his words. That knife disappeared from that hand a fraction of a second later. It was now flying toward Yong Baili, creating a trail of light as it flew.

The knife went straight for Yong Baili’s left eye. Yong Baili tilted his head, letting the knife fly past. As he did, another knife was already heading for the same eye, right in the position he had tilted his head to.

’He predicted my evasion?’ Yong Baili thought with surprise.

His surprise didn’t cause him to stop moving, though. His hand came up, and he flicked his finger. The knife was split in two by that finger.

An Guan showed a wry smile on the side. He could see Baili was unhappy about being forced to a sparring session with a freshman student. Baili wouldn’t have broken Amon’s knife if it wasn’t so.

Amon wasn’t so concerned about the broken knife. It was just the common one, not his precious poison knife. He wouldn’t expose his poison expertise if he didn’t have to. It was lucky the students who witnessed him using his poison claw during the rebel capture had all died, so he could hide his poison skill for a longer period.
