Chapter 99: Chapter 5: From Combat to Training

Arcane Mage.

As an extraordinary profession that began in the Second Epoch’s Macedonia Kingdom, it was famous for its formidable destructive power.

There are five classic Arcane Sequences: Flames, Frost, Storm, Meteor, and Thunder.

Essentially, Flames manipulate high temperature, Frost manipulates low temperature, Storm manipulates air pressure, Meteor manipulates gravity, and Thunder manipulates electromagnetism.

Born in the Orthodox Church’s court of the East Solomon Empire, although Thira lacked actual combat experience, her theoretical knowledge was unquestionable, and she naturally knew how to unleash the power of the Storm Sequence.

She made a handgun gesture with her right hand in the air, and in a spherical area about 1 centimeter in radius in front of her index finger, the internal air pressure was rapidly being evacuated under the effect of Extraordinary Power and Spirituality.

As a result, a pressure difference was created between the inside and outside, and the surrounding air, under natural atmospheric pressure, poured in frantically.

In less than 0.1 seconds, this "bullet" made of highly compressed air had already quietly suspended in front of the fingertip of Thira’s right index finger.

She aimed at one of the ghouls and simultaneously erased the air pressure in front of the bullet.

The air bullet shot out instantly, and the moment it entered the ghoul’s body, it was assaulted by the undead spirit’s Extraordinary Power, causing the "Magic Technique" that maintained the ultra-low pressure inside the bullet to collapse immediately.

The air bullet, which was highly compressed and almost solidified, exploded the moment the Magic Technique collapsed.

It was as if a ghoul’s entire chest had been shattered by a grenade, creating an explosion as loud as a gas cylinder exploding.

"Whoa," Medea, drawn by the loud noise, asked on the channel, "Is that also the power of the Storm Sequence?"

"Yes," Thira replied calmly, "Using the rapid expansion of compressed air is essentially the same principle as the firing mechanism of gunpowder firearms."

"Oh, air bullets," Medea immediately guessed the principle behind the ability and chuckled, "In that case, I’ll use my Desire Ability to lure a few more ghouls your way. You don’t mind, right?"

"Bring them on," Thira said indifferently.

In that moment, she wasn’t sure if it was an illusion or not, but it felt almost like she was once again sitting upon the Ivory Throne, her mind extremely calm, yet her blood boiling with excitement.

Because this time, beside her were not conspiring sisters calculating her every move, respectful yet scheming subjects and guards, as well as endless court intrigues, conspiracies, and tests.

Instead, it was the tense and fierce battlefield, the crossing of steel, flames, and flesh, and... trustworthy comrades fighting side by side.

She spread her ten fingers, and at the tip of each finger, a high-compressed air bullet formed.

"Come, monsters," she said coldly, gazing at the ghouls climbing up towards her.

Hundreds of meters away on higher ground, the Night Watch Knights were astonished to find that within seconds of the engagement, these mercenaries had not immediately crumbled.

Instead, they fought valiantly and tenaciously against the ghoul horde, managing to survive.

"All hands, move out now! V formation, lead with flames, buckshot follow-up, laser rifles at the rear, Go! Go! Go!" Hasimodo made a rapid decision, swiftly changing the command orders.

Since these foreign mercenaries were holding their ground, holding the high ground made no sense any longer. The ghouls wouldn’t turn back until they overran the mercenaries.

Better to strike with a pincer move.

The Night Watch Knights hurriedly advanced. On the other side, Aske, leading two girls, had already broken through the encirclement, switching his left hand to the Imperial Eagle, and firing three shots in succession.

Burst fire.

Wherever the bullets passed, ghouls were knocked down to the ground.

"Fan-shaped scatter! No, it’s an armor-breaking fan-shaped scatter!" shouted the approaching Night Watch Knights.

The so-called fan-shaped scatter is when you continuously fire while sweeping your arm, and the bullets radiate out in a fan shape.

With armor-breaking bullets, each trajectory could penetrate all enemies in a straight line, causing damage and stagger to a large number of enemies.

For the Night Watch Knights, the armor-breaking fan-shaped scatter was an extremely practical technique because their Power Armor could withstand the recoil of firing armor-breaking bullets in succession.

That Aske could execute an armor-breaking fan-shaped scatter with bare arms could only mean his Physical Power had reached a formidable level.

"Such power... Probably even more terrifying when wielding swords than using firearms," Hasimodo couldn’t help but think.

As if to prove his thought, in the next second, Aske put away his handgun and turned to take the Long Spear from Eleanor’s hands.

"Comrades, the more we are outnumbered, the more we must always pay attention to controlling our position!" Aske spoke solemnly, stepping forward with spear in hand, "Watch closely."

Eleanor and Sigrdrifa fixed their gaze and noticed that the ghoul army chasing them, with those at the front knocked down by Aske’s fan-shaped scatter, were all trying to get back up.

The ghouls that weren’t hit were clawing their way forward ferociously.

The pursuing ghouls collided with the ones that were getting up, causing a chaotic "traffic accident."

Moreover, due to being knocked down by a fan-shaped scatter shot, and having just gotten up, these entangled ghouls were also positioned in a fan shape.

"This is... Iron Cutting!" Eleanor suddenly exclaimed, as insight struck her like divine nectar.

As the words left her mouth, Aske had already charged forward a few steps, swinging his long spear like a tempest to execute a vicious semicircular strike!

Iron Cutting!

Aske’s spear thrust was perfectly aimed at the center point of the ghoul’s fan-shaped formation, so this impeccably placed Iron Cutting instantly knocked down more than ten ghouls.

Wherever the spear’s edge passed, severed limbs and dismembered arms were sent flying.

The next second, Aske charged forward again, penetrating the center of the front line of the ghoul army, striking with a fierce straight stab from his long spear.

The ghoul in front leaped up to avoid the thrust, only to find the spearhead following it upwards swiftly—Dragon Spear!

The Dragon Spear lifted the ghoul into the air, and Aske had already turned around, swinging his spear to the right, hurling the impaled ghoul away.

As a result, the ghouls on the right were all toppled by this "projectile," and Aske kept spinning, turning 270 degrees in an instant, bringing the spearhead back to the left.

Immediately followed by a Spiral Charge!

To be precise, it was a sprint plus Spiral Charge, known fondly among the gaming community as the warrior spear technique "Two-stage Charge."

With the high-speed charging form, combined with the Spiral Charge’s unique repelling effect, the ghouls on a straight line to the left either fell under Aske’s charge or were sent flying five or six meters away. The scene was both dazzling and shocking, enough to set one’s blood boiling.

Eleanor and Sigrdrifa held their breath in excitement, with only one thought left in their heads:

Unrivaled!

"When attacking, you should consider how to control and inflict the most damage on the enemy with the shortest route," Aske said, his forward momentum coming to a gentle stop.

The surrounding ghouls still capable of movement charged at him fearlessly. His face, however, showed no sign of fear, but he calmly said,

"At the same time, you must consider your position relative to the enemy after your move ends, as well as how to move next and execute further attacks."

No sooner had he finished speaking than he swung his long spear again, executing another Iron Cutting.

This time, Iron Cutting swept a full 360 degrees, sending all surrounding ghouls flying.

Then came another Two-stage Charge, ramming through the ghouls blocking the way in front.

"Start with an Iron Cutting to kill and repel enemies all around. Then a Two-stage Charge—charging while adding a Spiral Charge to clear enemies in a straight line and reposition, followed by another Iron Cutting."

"With such repetitive attacks, because they are all techniques that repel enemies around you, you can emerge unscathed throughout, which is why spear technique players call it a ’Mindless Battle Technique,’" Aske said as he charged forward, returning to Eleanor and Sigrdrifa’s side.

"While it may indeed be a bit mindless, it can help you practice movement and positioning."

"Perfect your footwork, and your Two-stage Charge will be very smooth; excel at positioning, and your Iron Cutting will strike even more ghouls."

He handed the long spear back to Eleanor and pointed at the clawing ghouls approaching them.

"Practice with this routine that I’ve taught you. Flesh bags as numerous and dumb as these are hard to come by normally."

"Okay!" Eleanor responded earnestly, gripping the long spear and charging toward the ghouls.

"What about me? What about me?" Sigrdrifa eagerly asked, completely disregarding her untidy state just moments before, and began to shake Aske’s arm.

"Your problem is being too aggressive in attack, with insufficient variation in your techniques," Aske retrieved Aphrodite and shot at a ghoul casually, drawing its hate towards him.

"Practice on this one—only use the blunt side of the axe, and don’t hit the limbs, torso, or neck—only the head," Aske lured the ghoul over, nimbly leaping backwards to dodge the creature’s flurry of attacks.

"Alright then," Sigrdrifa said somewhat disheartenedly, and began to sullenly deal with the ghoul.

When the Night Watch Knights arrived, they saw Eleanor handling a long spear with composure, moving in and out of the throng of ghouls without a hint of distress.

On the other side, Sigrdrifa gritted her teeth, using the back of her axe to hit the ghouls’ skulls.

Occasionally, when ghouls strayed from Eleanor’s side to attempt an attack on the pair, Aske stepped in with his sword.

With a Vibrating Wings move, he sliced a ghoul clean into the air, followed by a burst fire from his handgun, propelling the airborne ghoul away and back toward Eleanor’s side.

"This, looks like training?" Roger said uncertainly.

The Night Watch Knights fell silent in unison.

Using ghouls for training squires was commonplace within the Night Watchman organization, though usually, they were mostly dead ghouls that had undergone deactivation, with veteran knights supervising them professionally.

Actual combat training with a full horde of live ghouls, however, posed too high a risk. In the Third Epoch, the ancient Night Watchmen still retained the custom of real combat training, but due to the high casualty rate, it was abolished in the early Fourth Epoch.

This small Mercenary Group called "Green Sword" was daring to use a complete group of undamaged ghouls for live combat training? Weren’t they afraid of a member making a mistake in battle, leading to an immediate death?
