Chapter 98: Chapter 4 Siege_2
Then, her head was blown off again, and she fell backward, crashing to the ground.
Such a bizarre sight linked together countless Ghouls pouncing forward, not even touching the hem of the two girls’ dresses before being flung back again.
What really made the Ghouls perform this exaggerated "acrobatic show" were two sniper rifles from a distant hill, shooting almost perfectly intertwining trajectories.
They never fired at the same time or hit the same Ghoul, but rather steadily suppressed the Ghouls’ charge, ensuring that they could never overwhelm the two fleeing girls.
"Bravo!" Seeing three Ghouls leap up and get shot down mid-air by the sniper rifles, even the most composed Jialwen in the team couldn’t help but cheer, "That’s absolutely thrilling!"
"I’ve never seen such perfect staggered suppression!" other Knights remarked.
"Their shooters are definitely professional level!"
"Hasimodo!" Lorent, with his fiery temper, began shouting again, "Are you sure we are just going to stand here and watch? A professional mercenary shooter of this caliber should be fighting alongside us! It’s a shame to let them die at the hands of Ghouls!"
"It’s too late to go now," Hasimodo sighed. It would take at least 20 seconds to get there, ample time for the Ghouls to tear those mercenaries apart.
"Everyone hold your positions, laser rifles continue to keep distance shooting, try to kill as many Ghouls as possible before they are deceased." Despite the regret, Hasimodo made the most sensible decision owing to professional conduct.
Four laser rifles roared simultaneously, their deep red searing beams slicing through the air, burning the rotting bodies of the Ghouls.
Under the pain, the Ghouls became even more twisted and frantic, racing towards the two girls who were trying to escape.
Finally reaching the bottom edge of the high ground, Thira and Medea were out of breath. Eleanor, passing the exhausted duo, swung her shield hard, knocking over the leading Ghoul.
Her right hand moved like a dragon, stabbing another Ghoul in the abdomen.
Dragon Spear!
The Long Spear lifted the Ghoul entirely, who, despite flailing about in the air, couldn’t escape being impaled.
The next second, it was flung by the Long Spear like a massive cannonball, knocking over a straight line of Ghouls behind it.
In the treetops above the high ground, Miel quickly switched Slaughterer III to assault mode, with the gun’s muzzle firing rapidly, targeting the group of Ghouls charging at Eleanor.
Though bullets did little to the Undead Spirits, they managed to immobilize them, preventing Eleanor from being overwhelmed.
Eleanor held the shield with her left hand in front of her chest to fend off the Ghouls’ claws and lunges. Her right hand pulled the Long Spear to the far left, and with a twist of her waist, she exerted force.
Iron Cutting!
This Iron Cutting swept 270 degrees, flinging all the nearby Ghouls away.
Sigrdrifa immediately charged forward with her axe, Tornado Slash!
The Ghouls flung by Iron Cutting hit Sigrdrifa’s Axe Blade Storm head-on, instantly chopped apart like slicing through melons and cucumbers.
On the other side of the high ground, in a spot the Night Watch Knights couldn’t see, Mia teleported Thira and Medea down to Fire Island, then back up again, quick like a dropship in StarCraft lifting troops from below the high ground and instantly airdropping them on top.
"Where the hell is Aske!" Just reaching the high ground, Medea was as ferocious as a Ghoul herself, desperate to tear Aske to pieces.
"He jumped down the high ground!" Mia hastily responded.
"What?" Medea and Thira were both shocked.
Ellie and Sigrdrifa were below on the highland because one wore Magic Copper Armor and the other wore Meteorite Armor, which was the only reason they could withstand the ghouls’ claws that were sharp enough to tear through steel.
Aske was only wearing Chain Armor, yet he dared to charge directly into the battlefield?
"Has he gone mad, charging down like that!" Before Medea could speak, Thira immediately cried out in panic, unable to catch her breath, "What are we going to do if he gets killed? How can our team go on!"
"It can’t be, how could Aske possibly die?" Mia instinctively denied, "Even if we all get wiped out, he would definitely be the last one standing!"
Thira didn’t bother with her; she quickly rushed to the edge of the highland and saw Aske pressing one hand on his sword, charging toward Ellie and Sigrdrifa.
A few ghouls rapidly surrounded him, ferocious like a pack of wolves attacking a lone antelope.
Then the central antelope transformed into a lion.
Sword Draw Slash! A crescent-like cold light swept by, and the ghouls leaping in the air were all thrown back. Aske swung his long sword with his right hand and held the trigger of Aphrodite’s handgun in his left, the bullets firing rapidly.
The ghouls that were hit by the bullets were pushed even further by the force, almost flying several meters away.
More ghouls rushed towards him. Aske quickly moved to the side, dodging the ghouls’ claws, and a strike from Lion’s Fang split one’s skull open.
The ghoul lowered its head from the blade, and the next second, Aske had already stepped on its skull, using it to leap high into the air.
Sky Jump!
He skimmed across like a dragonfly touching water, jumping quickly on the shoulders and skulls of numerous ghouls, moving toward Ellie’s position.
Whenever a ghoul tried to attack, he swung his long sword downward, effortlessly slicing the opponent and tossing it away.
"Tornado Slash, Spiral Charge, break through at 3 o’clock." Over the comms, Aske quickly said.
At this point, Ellie and Sigrdrifa, after more ghouls arrived, found themselves in a disadvantageous situation outnumbered by enemies.
The only choice they had was to back up against each other, dealing with the deadly claws coming from all directions. Their armor was covered with white scratches pulled out by sharp nails, bearing faint signs of corrosion.
Had it not been for the protection of this advanced armor, they would have been torn apart already.
Hearing Aske’s commands, the two immediately turned around without hesitation and charged toward the 3 o’clock direction.
Thira stared blankly in that direction when someone suddenly pulled her up.
"Come and help us quick!" Mia shouted in her ear.
Thira was caught off guard and noticed that about forty ghouls, having left the group attacking Aske and the others, now began to assault their position on the highland.
Peggy defended the only gentle slope where they could come up, moving wildly within a narrow four to five-step range, cutting and pushing back all the ghouls that came close.
The remaining ghouls continued to assault the entrance to the slope, while others tried to use their claws to climb up from the cliff. Nora and Miel kept shooting, knocking them down one by one.
Thira took a deep breath as the Secret Silver Circuits on her right arm began to glow.
