Chapter 96: Chapter 3 Ghoul_2

Light Body Skill.

Immediately, Medea felt as if her body’s weight had vanished, and with just a slight push of her feet, she could leap up instantly.

"Is this the Extraordinary Ability of Storm I?" she asked, turning her head.

"Only for three minutes," Thira nodded.

"That’s enough," Medea quickened her pace.

"Two Night Watch Knights ahead have turned back to look," Thira warned her.

"No problem," Medea said, "Just don’t get too close, I’ll monitor their thoughts."

Thira knew she was an Extraordinary Ability wielder of the Mind Sequence, able to gauge the alertness of others, so she didn’t ask further.

Seeing the knights ascend to higher ground, Thira and Medea walked counterclockwise around the base of the elevation.

When they arrived in front of the highland, they were taken aback by the scene before them.

Below the highland, on a plain about 100 meters away, roamed at least a hundred Corpse Ghosts.

Their skin was dessicated, their hair burnt yellow, and their nails stretched out long from their fingers, like the sharp claws of fierce beasts.

Most of the Corpse Ghosts moved on all fours, while some walked on their hind legs, resembling wild men from the deep mountains, their mouths gaping exaggeratedly, dripping with sickly green saliva.

"These are truly revolting creatures," Thira couldn’t help expressing her distaste.

Medea, on the other hand, was less perturbed. Considering the more liberal atmosphere in the Mysterious Realm of Seljuk, with many desecrating corpses or cavorting with demons and Devils, she had seen plenty of more nauseating Corpse Ghosts, thus only cautiously said over the radio:

"Aske, the front line unit is in place."

"Miel, how’s the view from the treetops? Can you see Medea and Thira?" Aske, accompanied by Nora, strolled to the hill at the 2 o’clock position to meet with Peggy, then shouted up at the trees.

"The view’s good," Miel set up her sniper rifle and replied, "Visual on Medea and Thira confirmed."

"Alright," Aske finally said, "Everyone prepare, on my command!"

Elsewhere, the Night Watch Knights had also taken their positions.

Knight Captain Hasimodo climbed a highland on the left of the pass with four knights. He glanced behind and saw that the members of The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps had all hidden themselves on a far-off small hillock.

"Cowards with their tails between their legs," he thought contemptuously.

On the distant plain, several Ghouls had begun to notice the silhouettes on the highland and stood up, confused.

As the distance was quite significant and the Ghouls were upwind, they were only in alert mode for now, not yet charging in their direction.

"Aske..." fearing the Ghouls that had begun to stand up and look their way, Thira and Medea felt somewhat apprehensive and inquired over the radio, "Should we move further away? This distance...doesn’t seem safe, does it?"

"No, your task is to lure them, being too far from them would be ineffective," Aske responded.

Lure them? Both girls’ faces turned white instantaneously.

Heaven help us, we’re non-melee professionals being made to lure enemies!

For a moment, Thira even felt she made a big mistake—she never should have joined The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps!

"Aske, you bastard! Have you lost your mind?" Medea was already roaring in the Mind Channel, "One of us an Arcane Mage, and one a Mind Mage, neither suited for close combat, how can we be at the front luring enemies! If something happens, will you take responsibility?"

"I’ll take responsibility," Aske answered.

"Can you even bear such responsibility?" Medea was almost frantic.

"I’m the captain, if I don’t take responsibility, who will?" Aske replied with a chuckle, "Can’t you at least trust me a little?"

"Trust?" Medea was nearly speechless, "What have you done to earn my trust?"

"Is there? Have you forgotten the affair with the Conspiracy Formula?" Aske asked with a smile.

Conspiracy Formula... Medea suddenly remembered Aske’s outrageous maneuver, using the Conspiracy Sequence’s ability to sense malice for a classic remote ne-(gotation)tiation.

Upon reflection, it seemed that whenever she clashed with this guy, the end result was always a brutal face-slapping.

For example, at their first meeting, he had forced her to sign a Soul Contract. Pretending to write on her sleeve, she was immediately seen through and mocked by him, leaving her no choice but to sign an actual contract of servitude to him.

Or during the first team meeting, when they were exchanging hidden knowledge, she had questioned whether he mastered the knowledge of the Bloodline Path. He casually listed off a series of Magic Potion combinations, making her look like an idiot.

Or during the siege of Fire Island, when she doubted whether he could trigger a Burst, because the moment her body was touched by a male, it would erupt with flames over a thousand degrees Celsius.

But then he simply slapped her, inducing her Burst without harm... even if it was without insult and malice, it bloody hurt to think about it now!

Alright, this guy was indeed formidable, almost infallibly so, with every plan achieving its expected effect.

But it was so damn infuriating! Why hadn’t she burned this guy to death from the start? Medea decided to learn from Nora and buy a little notebook specifically for keeping grudges, to note down every single time Aske wronged her.

"Can you still cast that Light Body Skill?" Medea asked bitterly.

"Yes." Thira stuttered the response.

"I need to warm up my legs." Medea began to do warm-up exercises, alternating leg presses and ankle rotations, "Otherwise, if I twist an ankle or fall while escaping later, it will be certain death."

"Don’t say such inauspicious things!" Thira quickly said, "I... I’ll join too."

On the top of the hill to the right, three Night Watch Knights, armed with laser rifles and Shotguns, were waiting for instructions from Knight Captain Hasimodo.

"What are they doing?" Roger glanced sideways at the two girls below the hill, hopping and stretching, perplexed, "They seem to be dancing?"

"Forget those crazy girls," Lorent cautioned, his gaze fixed on the distant horde of Corpse Ghosts, "unless necessary, do not increase physical presence."

So, Knight Roger also silently recited the Razor Law, expelling unrelated thoughts from his attention.

Finally, the order came from Hasimodo:

"All laser rifles, fire at will!"

Instantly, the sound of electric arcs piercing the air echoed in unison, and four deep red, slender beams of laser shot out, striking right into the densest part of the Ghoul horde.

It was like thrusting a Long Spear into a hornet’s nest; the entire Ghoul horde exploded into chaos.

Countless Ghouls charged frantically towards the elevated terrain. Running on all fours, they sprinted across the ground with cheetah-like Agility, with wide mouths full of sharp teeth agape, their snake-like, slender tongues, and drool flailing like whips as they sped along.

"Listen well, Medea!" Aske said over the Mind Channel, "Use your Desire Ability to manipulate the hunting desires of these Ghouls and attract their attack target towards us."

"Aske!" Medea nearly kneeled on the spot. It was bad enough being bait, but to use Desire Ability for bait too? Was this wishful thinking for a speedy death?

"With their speed, surely it’s at least ten meters per second, right? If we attract them, we two won’t stand a chance of escaping!"

"Thira’s Light Body Skill can increase your speed of escape," Aske said cooly, "We’ll provide remote support from here and won’t let you actually get caught by the Ghouls."

"Are you sure?" Medea asked, her face streaming with tears.

"Yes," Miel answered.

"Alright then!" Since both teammates had said so, Medea hesitated no longer and fiercely said, "Thira, cast the Light Body Skill on me!"

Extraordinary Power flowed through the Secret Silver Circuits, and they both instantly felt as if their body weight had vanished.

At the same time, Medea spread her right hand fingers, making a grasping gesture towards the horde of Ghouls ahead.

The Mind Body of an Undead Spirit is incomplete, primarily consisting of the id lingering within the decaying corpse.

And since Medea’s Desire Ability acted directly upon the id, its effect was exceptionally profound.

All the Ghouls, in the midst of their charge, turned frenziedly and rushed straight towards Medea and Thira.
