Chapter 470: Chapter 471: Fluffed Up

Su Yawei immediately logged into the browser on his phone and then saw the breaking news. It featured those very people he had ordered to assault someone, explaining how they were instructed to do so. They mentioned his name and his grandfather’s name with utter clarity.

"Fuck!" Su Yawei cursed out loud, then looked at other popular websites and forums. To his shock, the video was prominently displayed everywhere, its view count skyrocketing and comments flooding in—nearly all of them abusive.

Cold sweat broke out on Su Yawei’s forehead. The video had spread so far and so fast; it would surely draw the higher-ups’ attention. The situation was not going to end well.

Su Yawei’s phone rang again—it was his grandfather. His heart sank as he hurriedly answered.

"Are you at the Public Security Bureau?" Vice Mayor Su asked through gritted teeth.

With a pained expression, Su Yawei replied, "Yes, I’m here right now. That guy has been arrested, and his phone was smashed by me. How could I know he would upload the content to the internet, and even make it to the headlines of major sites?"

"You imbecile, how could you handle things like this? There must be someone behind this, damn it!" Vice Mayor Su was truly furious, now finding himself in hot water as well.

At that moment, Li Jin hurried into the bureau chief’s office.

"Chief, it’s bad. The video of Su Yawei hiring gangsters to beat someone up has been leaked, and the internet is full of denunciations."

"What?" Liu Yuqing exclaimed, then quickly browsed through the video himself. His mind raced, and he made a quick decision, "Go interrogate Song Xiaodong personally right now. No matter what, make sure all procedures are fair and legal, without a single violation. Everything must be done by the book."

Li Jin frowned and said, "But there’s pressure from Vice Mayor Su."

Liu Yuqing’s face was stern as he responded, "Ignore him. When we in the Public Security Bureau handle a case, we can’t let a single word from someone throw us off and misjudge the case. Absolutely not. If the other party is not in violation of the law, then we must not act recklessly."

He didn’t know how this issue would ultimately blow up or if Vice Mayor Su would be able to suppress it, but one thing was clear to him: as long as he handled the case properly, there would be no fault to find. Even if Vice Mayor Su later pursued the matter, he would not fret—he had long been tired of being pressured by Vice Mayor Su to handle cases. Now, at last, he had an excuse.

Vice Mayor Su was already beside himself with rage. The internet was something that could no longer be ignored. If the matter spread completely, his tenure as vice mayor would be over, and he would also likely be arrested before long.

"Quick, get in touch with all the major websites to delete the posts, spare no expense," Vice Mayor Su roared at his subordinates.

Government departments everywhere have these connections, and people immediately contacted the major websites to delete the posts.

"Vice Mayor Su, the major sites are reporting back that they didn’t orchestrate this. Their sites were hacked, and the post was forcibly published by hackers. No matter how they try to delete it, the post keeps appearing immediately afterward."

"Hackers, what kind of hacker is so skilled?"

"They are saying that with such skill, it has to be a world-class hacker. Now their firewalls and technical staff are working desperately, but still unable to prevent the hacker’s intrusion, unless they shut down their servers."

"Then let them shut down the servers!" Vice Mayor Su yelled furiously.

"They will never agree to that. These major sites have very powerful backing; they are not something we can influence just with a city-level relationship. They might cooperate with deleting the posts, but shutting down servers is something they definitely won’t agree to."

Vice Mayor Su slumped into his chair. Though he was already sixty-three years old, his high position and good self-care meant he always had a healthy glow. But in that moment, he suddenly seemed to have aged considerably, wrinkles becoming pronounced on his face.

"This must be the enemy’s doing!" he exclaimed, leaping up, "Prepare the car, we’re going to the Hedong Sub-bureau."

He suddenly realized that the root of the problem lay with Song Xiaodong. He had underestimated the young man. If the latter dared to directly extort his grandson for eight hundred thousand, he must have had something on him. But for him to use such a method against him meant he surely had inflamed the situation, pushing it towards irreconcilable conflict.

By this time, Su Yuwei was completely frantic. With a stomp of his foot and a forceful push on the interrogation room door, he barged in before Li Jin could stop him.

"Kid, was it you who put the video on the internet? Erase it now," Su Yuwei demanded, reaching out and grabbing Song Xiaodong by the neck.

Song Xiaodong looked at Su Yuwei with a smile and said, "When you smashed my phone, you should’ve been prepared for the consequences. I warned you not to smash it."

Su Yawei’s face instantly stiffened as he shouted, "I don’t care about that, just fucking delete the video now, or I’ll kill you right here."

"Sure, go ahead," Song Xiaodong said indifferently.

"Fuck, you really won’t cry until you see the coffin," Su Yawei raged, raising his hand to strike Song Xiaodong’s face.

"Stop!" Li Jin immediately shouted, trying to prevent Su Yawei, but it seemed too late.

However, Su Yawei’s hand never reached Song Xiaodong’s face. His leg was suddenly hit with a heavy kick, sending him tumbling down to kneel before Song Xiaodong, his forehead slamming into the chair in the interrogation room. He nearly passed out from the blow, and a large bump swelled up on his forehead instantly.

"Fuck! You dare to kick me?" Su Yawei was even more enraged, jumping up to retaliate.

Li Jin and the two veteran officers immediately restrained Su Yawei.

"Let me go, I’m going to kill this bastard."

"No way, get out of here now. This is no place for you to act out," they demanded.

"My grandfather is the vice mayor. If you don’t listen to me, he’ll make you suffer when he finds out."

Li Jin was also irritated and retorted fiercely, "Don’t talk as if being the vice mayor’s grandson gives you any sway. Even if the vice mayor himself were here, I would still not allow you to cause chaos. This is the Public Security Bureau; only we, the police, can conduct investigations."

Li Jin’s words were indeed powerful, and after speaking, he also felt incredibly satisfied. When taking a stand on the true principles of the law, there was a sense of rising righteousness, a profound pride!

"You are audacious, alright, just wait. I will strip off your police uniform and make you lose your job," threatened Su Yawei.

"Even if Laozi loses his job, I won’t let you wreak havoc! Take him away!" Li Jin commanded with another roar.

Song Xiaodong glanced at Li Jin with the corners of his mouth tilting up in a faint smile. It seemed that the majority in the police force were decent people; it was just those few bad apples that were the problem.
