Chapter 468: Chapter 469: The Meaning From Above
In the office of the director of the Hedong Sub-bureau, Director Liu Yuqing was answering a phone call from Vice Mayor Su from the city government.
"Xiaodong, I’m counting on you for this matter. And the video on his phone needs to be handled even more cleanly."
Liu Yuqing immediately replied, "Vice Mayor Su, rest assured, I will certainly enforce the law impartially."
"Mhm, I handpicked you myself, so I’m quite confident in you handling this matter. Just make sure there are no slip-ups."
"Understood. How should this person be dealt with?" Liu Yuqing asked further.
Vice Mayor Su’s tone grew stern, "This person... hmph, a mere extortionist, doesn’t your Public Security Bureau know how to deal with him? Do you still need to ask me?"
"Alright, I understand."
After hanging up, Liu Yuqing couldn’t help but frown. Although he was promoted by Vice Mayor Su, he truly was someone who got things done. He least preferred handling such obviously biased cases.
Especially since Vice Mayor Su had plainly labeled the other party as an extortionist, this essentially defined the nature of the case for him and dictated how he had to proceed with it.
Shaking his head slightly, Liu Yuqing decided to personally inquire into the matter. It definitely wouldn’t be so simple, and if he didn’t get to the bottom of it, it would certainly keep him up at night.
Considering the person should have been brought in by now, he directly called Section Two, who was in charge of this case.
"Li Jin, has the person been brought in?"
"Yes, he’s being interrogated right now."
Liu Yuqing immediately said, "Then proceed with the interrogation as usual. Don’t engage in any sort of mess. Send the recorded confession to me later, and remember one thing above all else: stick to the facts."
"Understood!"
Li Jin was the Section Chief of Sec Two. After hanging up the phone, he immediately made his way to the interrogation room. Upon seeing a couple of his subordinates at the door, he asked, "How’s it going so far?"
"Section Chief Li, about that..."
Li Jin heard the sound of a beating coming from inside and frowned, saying, "What nonsense is this? What era are we living in that you’re still resorting to such tactics? Tell those inside to stop immediately!"
These days, police work was mostly formalized. While there were indeed bad apples in the force, there were also many good cops. Just look at the police strike in Brazil; without the police, some people would take advantage to create chaos, and the common folk would be the ones to suffer. So, it wouldn’t be fair to dismiss the hard work of most officers because of a few bad ones.
As Li Jin and his men were about to enter, Su Yawei rushed over in a hurry.
After receiving word of Song Xiaodong’s apprehension, Su Yawei immediately headed to the Hedong Public Security Bureau. The problem wasn’t just about the eight hundred thousand, the main issue was that video. If it were to spread, it could easily tarnish his grandfather’s reputation.
With only two more years until his retirement, it was crucial for Grandpa Chu to depart peacefully. Furthermore, during these last couple of years, he could amass a substantial fortune for his descendants.
Su Yawei was well aware of how essential his grandfather’s position was. Without his grandfather, he would be nothing more than a rich heir, with a significantly lower social status.
Yet, Su Yawei couldn’t come up with the eighty thousand yuan himself. Children of official families might have some money, but there were limits; they didn’t spend as recklessly as the second or third generation of the wealthy.
Hence, Su Yawei had no choice but to inform his grandfather about the matter. Only he could suppress this affair. As the grandson of the vice mayor, he had no power to command the police.
But with his grandfather’s directive, Su Yawei now felt entirely empowered.
"How’s it going?" Su Yawei stated his identity and then asked Li Jin sternly.
Li Jin gave a wry smile inwardly. With the Vice Mayor’s grandson here, handling the case had become trickier. He braced himself and responded, "It’s still under interrogation; the situation is not clear yet."
Su Yawei insisted, "Then I’ll go in and have a look."
"I’m afraid that’s not possible. While a case is under investigation, only the officials involved can enter."
"What’s with all the fuss? Hasn’t my grandfather told you how to handle this case?" Su Yawei’s face darkened as he invoked his grandfather’s authority.
"Well..." Li Jin was somewhat at a loss, suggesting, "Perhaps you should discuss this with our director first. Without his permission, I can’t take on the responsibility of letting you in."
Su Yawei frowned and said coldly, "Enough talk, just open the door. I just want to have a look and get my stuff. Hurry up."
"You wait here at the door for a moment. I’ll go and check," Li Jin hesitated but finally came up with a compromise.
"Hmph, what a blockhead. How do you expect me to speak well of you to my grandfather with this kind of attitude?"
The corner of Li Jin’s mouth twitched. If Su Yawei were to badmouth him to Grandpa Chu, it could indeed affect his future prospects. At this point, he had no choice but to nod to the two officers and unlock the interrogation room door.
As the door opened and several people entered, they all halted in their tracks upon seeing the situation inside, staring dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what had occurred.
On the floor lay two policemen, both bruised and swollen, while Song Xiaodong was sitting in a chair in the interrogation room.
"What happened?" Li Jin asked with a furrowed brow.
Zhao Chuo and Xiao Liu struggled to stand, mouths opening to speak, but no sound came out. Their faces went red as beads of sweat formed, and they gestured frantically with their hands, pointing mainly at Song Xiaodong.
"What happened?" Li Jin asked Song Xiaodong again.
Song Xiaodong shrugged and said, "How would I know? These two came in, spat out a bunch of gibberish that I didn’t understand, and then started fighting."
"How is that possible? Did you do something?" Su Yawei glared and accused him.
Song Xiaodong flexed his cuffed hands, creating a jangling sound, then rolled his eyes at Su Yawei and said, "Are you an idiot? Look, I’m cuffed right here. How could I have laid a hand on them?"
That left Li Jin and the others no choice but to believe Song Xiaodong’s words. The interrogation room chairs were made of steel bars, and once cuffed to them, one could only sit and do nothing else.
But looking at Zhao Chuo and Xiao Liu, Li Jin’s brow furrowed again. How on earth could these two have ended up fighting? And why were they gesturing without speaking, was it possible they had both gone mad?
