Chapter 44: Isabella’s Shock.

Lexus, after leaving the underground hall, went outside; the rain was still pouring, and his new mission was to eliminate the two princes.

I’ve to check up on Isabella and that little girl; they are waiting for me at the tavern.

Lexus flew up in the sky and slowly went towards the tavern; soon he heard Isabella’s voice, and she was as if arguing with someone.

Better tie up my loose hair and hide it a little; I don’t want to be recognized as a killer, when I come back to ask for assistance from the princess.

Lexus tied his whole hair up and used the bulky jacket to hide his hair, as it was colorful pink and was super rare; people would remember it if they only saw it once.

Lexus landed on the wet wooden roof of the tavern to listen to what was happening, and even if you’re very powerful, knowing things early gives you an edge over others.

"I said my husband is coming, and we’re going to pay the bill."

"You look like a beggar; your sister has eaten 3 of the biggest pies in the last half hour. Pay up or else."

"Or else what?"

"Do the dishes."

Lexus, hearing the conversation, understood that the little girl ate something and Isabella doesn’t have any money on her to pay the bill.

Oh man! I thought someone was harassing the girls, but it’s a normal spat, isn’t it? In novels, when a protagonist sends girls somewhere, they are always being harassed by perverted animals.

Lexus sighed with a little bit of sadness and then jumped down from the roof and landed in a puddle of water; the rain was heavy and the temperature was going down.

It’s maybe around -5° Celsius, and by the look of it, the temperature is going down more and more as the night deepens.

Lexus, thinking about the cold weather, entered the tavern; there was a small bell on the door, so if someone entered the tavern, the small bell jingled.

Few people looked towards the door as Lexus entered; because the rain was heavy, there were very few customers inside.

Lexus didn’t look around because he saw Isabella, and the little girl was seated beside the counter and was arguing with the tavern keeper.

"Lex, you’re here? Give me one silver coin." Isabella, as soon as she saw Lex entering, went from angry to all smiley.

"Alright, but I am going to eat as well," Lexus said, then sat down and gestured to the tavern keeper, who was arguing with Isabella before.

Seeing the imposing Lexus, the tavern keeper didn’t argue and came over with a frown on his face.

"Here’s 10 silver coins. Let them eat whatever they ask, and here’s another 20. Is there a room we could stay in? The weather is bad," Lexus said to the tavern keeper.

The tavern keeper, as soon as he saw the silver coins, his eyes glowed up, and he smiled broadly.

"Of course, sir, that room is available; for 20 silvers, you can use that room for the night." The tavern keeper first took the silvers inside his pocket and then gestured towards a small door by the side of the counter.

"Alright, bring us something to eat and give this little girl what she was eating," Lexus said, then used his hand to dismiss the tavern keeper.

The tavern keeper bowed with a smile and then left them alone. Lexus looked at Isabella, who was looking at him with a fierce expression now.

"You look good when you smile," Lexus said to lighten up the tension.

"And you look great without causing any trouble; look at her, such a sweet little angel, but she keeps eating, and maybe she doesn’t have any bottom in her stomach," Isabella said with frustration.

The little girl, although half her height, was eating more and more; she almost demanded a fourth pie in half an hour.

"Well, you know how it is; she’s special," Lexus said smilingly, then looked at the tiny girl; she was quietly listening to them and was still expressionless.

"I know. Are we making a mistake taking her with us?" Isabella asked, as both Isabella and Lexus have a goal in mind, which was Ancient Court, and bringing the enemy of the court will be a mistake.

"Well, I don’t know. I bought her; that’s what makes me responsible for her, so I am not going to abandon her here." Lexus said with a smile and then saw the tavern keeper coming with two bowls in hand.

"Here, sir, two big bowls of duck meat soup, and I am coming with some bread and the pie for the little girl." The tavern keeper, saying this, ran inside the kitchen and returned with two giant loaves of bread and a giant pie.

That’s a pie? It’s nearly as big as an 18-inch pizza!

Lexus looked at the pie with side eyes and didn’t bother the little girl who was already digging inside the sweet pie.

"See? She’s at it again." Isabella seeing the little girl eating as soon as the hot pie came became a little angry.

"Alright, here, you eat too." Lexus gave Isabella one of the loaves, and he dipped his one inside the soup.

"It’s not bad; the soup is hot enough," Lexus said, then gestured for Isabella to eat. Isabella sighed! Then he started eating.

"Stay inside that room for an hour or so. Our carriage has been stolen. I’ve managed to secure a beautiful one, but the owner requires some work to be done first before I can get my hands on it," Lexus said while munching on the loaf, despite having eaten dinner just a little while ago.

"Oh? What kind of carriage demands you to work for it?" Isabella asked, her face filled with intrigue.

"Carriage owned by the Princess of the Empire," Lexus casually said while Isabella’s eyes got bigger with shock.

"You...you met with the princess? When? " Isabella asked if her shock was still present on her face.

"Just a little while ago, accidentally, I was searching for a stolen carriage; it turns out, it was her thief that had stolen the carriage in the first place," Lexus said. Finishing his bread, he gulped down the whole soup.

"So, what kind of work does a princess of an empire require from you?" Isabella asked with confusion, and she was still in a little bit of shock.

"Well, she requires me to give out justice in her name, and as a nobleman myself, I can’t deny that, right?" Lexus, saying this, stood up and then saw the little one was almost finished with the pie.

"Here, take these three golds and some silver; make her full. I’ll go and get the stagecoach; I’ll be back before the sun rises. Then we leave the city," Lexus said with determination while Isabella nodded her head in response.

Lexus then ruffled the little girl’s head gently; to his surprise, she looked up at him. Lexus smiled and nodded his head.

The girl only looked at him; her expression didn’t change at all.

Lexus smilingly walked towards the door, removed the jacket from his head, and let his hair fall to his waist.

People inside the tavern looked at him, and some women who looked like veteran mercenaries even had a jealous face.

Lexus tied the hair once again, then grabbed a huge samurai hat from a person seated nearby the door who almost got angry until Lexus gave him a gold coin for it.

Lexus now looked like a samurai in white clothes without a sword on his waist, and then he left the tavern.
