Chapter 1102: A not so suspicious trip

The next morning.

"Tell me, tell me," Ai said as she patted the space on the bed for Jin to sit.

He asked for her time to talk about something important and she was more than happy to lend an ear. At present, she was done feeding Junxi and was patting her back so as to not let her puke out her meal.

"Why do you look so exhausted? Look at the dark circles below your eyes!" She scolded him.

"I feel pathetic," His head hung low as he drew random circles on the bed.

She blinked. "Why?"

"...I talked to Alix yesterday."

And he slowly told her about the crux of their conversation that happened between them last night.

"I...I don’t know what to do!" He combed through his hair in frustration. "At first, I felt she was really stupid for actually agreeing to...between us..." he coughed, "by being too logical and rational about it. But I’m the stupid one here. It’s like I was forcing my sense of grandness onto her, which is wrong considering how we grew up in completely different environments."

Jin cursed the fact that Alix had to remind him of that.

Ai gave it a good thought and nodded. She asked, "True. Depending on what one sees and observes around them, their perception about love or any other feeling can change. Is she angry about this?"

"No...Actually, she didn’t look too bothered about it."

Which was what hurt him the most. He thought she should have berated him a little more for devaluing her point of view even if it was unintentional from his side.

"B-But! Though I feel mad at myself for not realizing it, I..." he glanced left and right as if unsure how to make his point, "Can I really...take that step...with her?" His voice turned into a whisper by the end. "I-I just can’t help but feel that I will be using her and not that something...she wants it...?"

Her brow twitched. "You think Alix is the kind of person to agree to that sort of intimacy simply out of the obligation that she is your wife?"

"...Obviously not."

"Then it’s the problem of you not able to see her feelings eye-to-eye with yours. Everybody have a different way of expressing themselves. It’s not about her changing your status to something that you feel is too insignificant based on your standards. She has a knack of hiding her care for others. Like how she saved me and Junxi from Cai Lingyun but doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it."

"That’s true..."

"Coming onto you, didn’t she almost throw Wang Xia out of the twentieth floor window to make her change her statement? Maybe taking responsibility was a part of it as the whole reason you went in jail was to meet her. Even so, she could have just ignored the whole situation. Your feelings or how you deal with it wasn’t her problem."

Jin clasped his hands together. "So...does she like me?"

Ai lay Junxi back on the bed. Little Junxi’s gaze met Jin’s and her lips formed a bright smile as she cooed. Jin’s heart melted into a puddle and he tickled her under her chin.

"I can only say I don’t think she would have accepted a marriage contract if it was offered by somebody else and not you. She agreed because she trusted you in a sense. Not only about helping her family’s situation but also the fact that you would be a decent partner to her.

Well, yes it seems like a logical decision and ’love’ might not the starting point, but do you think her being able to put that trust in you is insignificant? We might argue if a partner loves you or not but not trust. Trust is indispensable for any relationship. And if she is willing to take that step with you, then she trusts you a lot."

Trust...

His heart raced. Taking that step of intimacy was indeed a big commitment and Alix wouldn’t have agreed to it just like that without any thought.

"But still..."

Ai raised her palm. "The main problem here I believe is a disconnect in your expectations and basic values. So how about you two go for a honeymoon trip!" She chirped.

"..."

His expression twisted. "W-What are you talking about!"

"I knew you would take this wrong way!" She harrumphed.

"What’s the right way to take it then?" He scowled.

"You don’t have to necessarily think about a honeymoon trip in that sense. You can consider it as a great excuse to spend quality time with each other as husband and wife. Just go to places, do sightseeing and talk. I think you will get a good sense of how you two look at your relationship."

He paused at that.

"Plus, it had been a tough time for her to settle in here. She does seem to be a little more comfortable with the family members than before so I think it’s a good time that you get to spend some time with each other as well. Just get to see each other’s perspectives."

The more she talked, the more Jin felt it to be a really good idea. With all the chaos surrounding Yuze and Alix’s truth, they really never got that time to just be with each other. Alone.

Well...what should I do?

Alix heard a distinct sound of someone’s throat clearing and she turned to find Jin standing behind her with a very suspicious expression on his face. They had simply went to sleep after their conversation so she wondered if he wanted to continue it - at least by the way he looked so tense.

"You are...going somewhere?" He asked.

"To Miss. Xie’s house. She said she will help me about where and how to start."

"Ah, okay."

Silence. He didn’t say anything nor did he move out of her way for a long time. Alix didn’t rush him either, not that she was in a hurry anyway.

"Um so I was thinking..."

It’s definitely about last night, she surmised seeing his panicked state of mind.

"I was thinking if...you would be okay to..." he swallowed a gulp, "hon- no! Sightseeing! Yes, sightseeing!"

"Huh? What sightseeing?" She was puzzled.

He let it out in one breath. "Will you go on a completely innocent sightseeing trip with me!"

"..."

What is a ’completely innocent’ sightseeing trip?
