Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Returning to Her Mother’s Home on the 2nd Day of the Lunar New Year

After watching the sunrise, they finally started heading home.

It was almost nine o’clock when they got home.

"Where have you kids been? We got up this morning and didn’t see you. Your dad and I were quite startled."

Ye’s mother sighed with relief when she saw them return.

"Mom, we went to the temple on the outskirts of town for fun."

Ye Qian yawned as she spoke to Ye’s mother.

"Why did you decide to go there? Didn’t you sleep all night? I’ve made breakfast. Eat something before you go to sleep."

Ye’s mother hurriedly suggested when she saw how exhausted they were.

"Mom, I’m not eating. I’m going to sleep first."

Ye Qian said and then headed straight to her room.

"Mom, I’m not eating either. Ye Hao, are you going to eat?"

"Mom, we’ll eat after we wake up. We’re really just too tired."

Gu Yi and Ye Hao didn’t have much of an appetite either. They managed to hold on while on the road, but as soon as they got home, they felt overwhelmingly sleepy.

"Alright, you all go and get some sleep then."

Ye’s mother said with a look of concern on her face.

The three of them slept until late in the afternoon.

Ye Hao was the first to wake up. After sleeping for a while, he was refreshed.

Gu Yi woke up earlier than Ye Qian.

After washing up, she just sat by the heater, not wanting to move at all.

Ye Qian clearly hadn’t woken up fully when she got up.

After dinner, no one suggested playing cards.

Gu Yi leaned against Ye Hao.

Ye Qian was yawning continuously as well.

"You all should just go to sleep. Look how tired you are."

Ye’s mother couldn’t bear watching them and told them to go back to their rooms.

Gu Yi followed Ye Hao into the room, and as soon as they entered, she leaned against Ye Hao’s back with her eyes closed.

"Are you that tired?"

Ye Hao turned around and hugged Gu Yi, asking indulgently.

Gu Yi nodded with her eyes still closed.

She mumbled softly that she was really sleepy.

Ye Hao smiled helplessly.

"You were the one who wanted to join in the fun, yet you wore yourself out. Let’s go to sleep then."

As he said this, he carried Gu Yi in his arms and placed her on the bed.

Gu Yi kept her eyes closed the whole time and let him help her take off her coat.

Once Ye Hao covered her with the blanket, Gu Yi immediately drifted off to dreamland.

The next morning, after waking up, Gu Yi lay in bed dazed for a while.

After staying up all night, she didn’t even know where she was when she woke up.

Ah, staying up late is really not worth it.

She reached over and felt around, guessing that Ye Hao had been up for quite some time.

When she came out of the room, Ye Hao was just coming back from his run.

"Did you sleep well?"

"Mmm, did you go for a run early in the morning?"

"Not really, just ran for half an hour. We’re visiting the in-laws today, so I thought I’d exercise a bit to present a good spirit to your parents."

Ye Hao said with a smile.

"I’m going to wash up, and then we can eat and go."

Gu Yi said and then headed to the kitchen.

After finishing breakfast, when they were about to leave, Ye’s mother came out with a basket of things.

"Yiyi, take this back to your mom’s place."

"Mom, why did you prepare so much?"

Gu Yi was surprised as she looked at the basket.

In the basket were two bottles of wine, two packs of cigarettes, two bags of candy, two kilos of flour, two pieces of meat, two small cakes, a bag of apples, a bag of snacks, a bag of fried meatballs, and two fish on the ground.

When she went home in the past couple of years, it wasn’t as much.

"This is the first time after you two got married that you’re visiting your mom’s on the second day of the new year. It’s not much, but it’s our affection. Hao Hao, hurry up and take it. It wouldn’t be good if you’re late."

Ye’s mother explained and urged Ye Hao to take the items, sending them off to the door.

"Thanks, mom. Ye Hao and I probably won’t be back today. We’ll stay over there tonight and come back tomorrow."

Gu Yi figured that since today is the second day of the new year, her dad, and her elder and second brothers would definitely have Ye Hao drink some wine, making it impossible to return tonight.

"No worries, you can stay there comfortably."

Ye’s mother understood the Gu Family’s feelings.

This son-in-law hardly ever gets to return home, and coming back with the daughter during the New Year, they naturally want them to stay longer.

"Hao Hao, when you get to your mother-in-law’s, make sure to be helpful. Don’t just sit there waiting to be served, understand? And have a good drink with your father-in-law."

Ye’s mother reminded Ye Hao once more.

"Mom, I got it. We’re leaving now, don’t want to be late."

Ye Hao said, hanging the basket on his arm, carrying the fish with one hand, and holding Gu Yi’s hand as they walked out.

"Isn’t it heavy?"

Gu Yi curiously asked when she saw how easily Ye Hao carried everything.

"It’s not heavy. This is nothing. Sometimes during field training, we have to carry 50 kilograms."

"Seems like your time in the army wasn’t wasted, getting all muscled up like this."

Gu Yi said, playfully pretending to pinch Ye Hao’s arm.

"Do you like it?"

Ye Hao suddenly asked quietly.

Gu Yi was momentarily stunned.

"I do."

Gu Yi thought to herself, it’s just a little teasing, who’s afraid of whom, huh.

Ye Hao observed Gu Yi’s expression and cleared his throat with a smile.

They left early, and by the time they arrived at the Gu Family, it was just after nine.

At the entrance of the Gu Family’s yard, Ye Hao was carrying the fish in one hand and the basket in the other as he entered the yard with Gu Yi.

"Yiyi, brother-in-law, you’re finally here. Mom and Dad have been looking out for you several times."

Sister-in-law came out from the kitchen just as she saw Gu Yi and them.

"Mom, Dad, Yiyi and her husband are here."

She called this out toward the kitchen as she walked up to welcome them.

The Gu Family, upon hearing Sister-in-law’s call, also came out to greet them.

Brother Gu took the items from Ye Hao’s hands and placed them in the living room.

Ye Hao and Gu Yi greeted everyone.

"Sit down, please."

Gu’s father invited Ye Hao to sit, and Sister-in-law had already brought tea.

After placing the tea, she went back to the kitchen to help Gu’s mother and Second Sister-in-law Gu.

"You two little girls didn’t miss Auntie, did you?"

Seeing Gu Hui and Gu Min dressed in red, looking so adorable, Gu Yi approached to tease them.

The two little girls had grown quite a bit since they last saw each other six months ago.

"Yes."

The two little girls shouted in unison.

"Since you’re so good, I’ll tell you a secret, okay?"

"Okay."

"Go and wish Uncle-in-law a Happy New Year, and he will give you a big red envelope. Do you want it?"

"Yes."

"Then why don’t you hurry and go over."

The two little girls listened to Gu Yi and ran over to Ye Hao.

"Uncle, Happy New Year!"

Ye Hao looked at the two little red kids and then at Gu Yi, who was smiling not far away.

He quickly took out two pre-prepared red envelopes and handed them to each of them.

"Thank you, Uncle."

Then they ran to the kitchen, wanting to show their mom what they got.

Ye Hao watched them run away, smiling the whole time.

"How long can you stay home this time?"

This was Gu’s father’s biggest concern, thinking initially about letting Gu Yi marry Ye Hao because he was in the military, and life would be more secure.

Only now did he realize that marrying his daughter to a soldier had one downside: he couldn’t come home often.

His daughter had been away for more than half a year already.
