Chapter 515: Chapter 517: Encountering Such Confusion in Emotions

"Go get that bandaged up!" Shao He urged.

Qing Shan nodded. Shao He turned and went back into the room, taking a medicine box from in front of the cabinet.

Shao He helped her roll up her sleeve to her elbow, revealing her snow-white skin, all covered in fresh blood.

"Miss, don’t worry, this injury is not serious," Qing Shan said with a faint smile.

Shao He took out scissors to cut open the clothes at the wound and, seeing the injury on her shoulder blade, asked with furrowed brows, "What exactly happened?"

Qing Shan tilted her head in confusion, caught her mistress’s warning gaze, and had no choice but to tell the truth.

"You, how can you be so foolish? Normally, you’re such a clever person. How can you be so muddled when it comes to matters of the heart?"

Shao He really didn’t know what to say, encouraging her to confess her feelings was meant to help her find peace of mind, not to get herself hurt.

Qing Shan’s expression changed slightly, she looked up at Shao He and asked softly, "I once tried very hard to control my emotions, but in the end, I couldn’t."

She couldn’t control her actions. Her fondness for him had long surpassed reason.

After cleaning the wound, Shao He applied medicine and wrapped it lightly with bandages before tying several sturdy cloth bands around her back.

Once that was done, Shao He let out a long breath and clapped her hands together, "Rest well and don’t think about those useless things."

Qing Shan looked up at her and suddenly said, "Mm, I want to always stay by Miss’s side, accompanying her."

Shao He immediately retorted, "Silly girl, you will eventually get married. My Qing Shan is so beautiful and wise, any man who marries you is incredibly lucky!"

"Miss is just teasing me," Qing Shan’s corners of her mouth curled upwards.

"I’m speaking the truth. Alright, your wound has been treated. Don’t get it wet in the coming days and make sure you rest well," Shao He, after packing up the medicine box, reminded and then left.

She knew Qing Shan needed some quiet time. Often, people understand the principles, but when the day truly comes, they don’t know how to soothe their emotions.

The next morning, before dawn, the sky was cloudy, and a drizzle began to fall, the fierce wind scattering the lush leaves of the parasol trees in the courtyard.

Pei Hanze was already prepared to set out. Pei Huaian specifically accompanied him to the city gate.

"Imperial Uncle, take great care on your journey," Pei Huaian said, clasping his hands in a salute.

"Mm," Pei Hanze replied softly, his gaze deep as he looked at Shao He standing next to Pei Huaian, "Take good care of her. I plan not to return to the Capital City but to wander elsewhere."

Pei Huaian glanced at Shao He and responded softly, "Rest assured, Imperial Uncle."

Pei Hanze nodded slightly, mounted his horse, and, with a flick of his whip, galloped northward.

Pei Huaian stood watching until the carriage disappeared from sight, then slowly approached Shao He.

"You’ve had a tough time lately," Pei Huaian called out softly.

Shao He opened her eyes to look at him and frowned slightly, "Healing the sick is my duty. Why talk of it being tough?"

Pei Huaian nodded and together, they climbed into the carriage.

"Achoo—"

Just after sitting in the carriage, Pei Huaian suddenly sneezed and rubbed his nose.

A pair of soft hands touched his forehead to check, he was fine, then she gave him a medicine pill to take.

"It’s nothing, probably just a chill," Pei Huaian shook his head and lowered the carriage curtain.

Outside, the drizzle had intensified, raindrops pitter-pattering against the carriage, wetting the streets where one could occasionally see hurried footsteps and galloping horses.

The carriage soon stopped at the station. He turned his body, lifted the carriage curtain, and looked outside.

Ah Mo hurriedly opened an umbrella and handed it over. Pei Huaian jumped down first, then took Shao He’s hand to help her descend from the carriage.

Pei Huaian held the umbrella, his and Shao He’s slender figures close together under it.

This scene, in the eyes of others, matched a talented man with a beautiful woman, yet there were envious eyes watching them.

A woman draped in a veil walked out from a small alley, intent on rushing forward but was grabbed by an older woman who pulled her aside.

"Mother, what are you doing?"

"This is for your own good, dear. Do you know who that man is?"

The veiled lady replied unwillingly, "I don’t care about his identity, I just know that I like him!"

"But he doesn’t like you. If he did, he wouldn’t have left without a word," her mother’s words struck a painful chord in her heart.

"No! He definitely likes me."

"Likes? You don’t even know his name; you don’t truly understand him. Listen to me, child, don’t continue these foolish acts," the woman’s mother advised.

"No, why must you control my life? I’ve already been living with you in a cave, aren’t I even free to choose the man I like?" the woman stubbornly said.

Her mother sighed and tried to console her, "Mother knows you’re set on him, but he isn’t a good match. Listen to me, while you’re still young, find a decent man to marry."

"I don’t want to, mother, please don’t force me!"

The woman bit her lip and was silent for a while; then, she suddenly broke free from her mother’s grasp and ran off furiously.

The older woman sighed. Her daughter had always been headstrong, set in her ways, and resistant to change. Persuading her was futile; the only thing she could do was try to prevent her from making irreparable mistakes.

The rain gradually lessened, and the sky brightened. People began to appear on the streets one after another.
