Chapter 514: Chapter 516: Can’t Climb into Your Bed
Qing Shan stood outside the door pondering for a long time, looking at the scented pouch she had embroidered and then walked up to the door and knocked.
"Come in."
A deep voice emerged, making Qing Shan’s heart uncontrollably tremble.
She took a deep breath, stepped in, and was immediately hit by the strong smell of alcohol.
Pei Hanze was holding a wine pot, swaying it slightly; a slight smile appeared at his lips when he saw who entered.
"Why have you come?"
Qing Shan walked up to Pei Hanze and, seeing the wine bottles on the table, hesitated momentarily and asked, "Prince, are you in a bad mood?"
"When have I ever been in a good mood? I thought she was Ningning reincarnated, only to find she belongs to someone else," Pei Hanze said with a bitter smile as he took another drink from the pot.
Qing Shan frowned slightly, snatched the wine pot from Pei Hanze’s hand and placed it behind her, then gently helped him to lie down on the bed, comforting him with a tender voice, "Prince, you are drunk."
"I am not drunk; I never get drunk!" Pei Hanze slurred as he gazed at Qing Shan with hazy eyes.
In a blink of an eye, she suddenly appeared to him as Ningning.
Just as Qing Shan was about to turn and leave, she was unexpectedly pulled back by Pei Hanze. She fell into his embrace and was held tightly by him.
"Ningning, don’t go," Pei Hanze hugged her, burying his head in her neck and murmuring.
Qing Shan felt her body tingle as if electrified, her cheeks so red they almost bled, and she struggled against Pei Hanze, urgently crying out, "Prince... Prince, please let go!"
Hearing the panicked struggling of the girl in his arms, Pei Hanze’s longing became uncontrollable; he grasped her arms tightly and demanded, "Why? Why won’t you enter my dreams?"
"Prince, I’m not the Princess; you’ve mistaken me," Qing Shan explained.
But her words from her explanation had no effect, as Pei Hanze seemed lost in his own world, unwilling to come out of it.
Seeing no response from Pei Hanze, Qing Shan pushed even harder and, crying out for help, impulsively pulled out the jade hairpin from her hair and brutally stabbed it into her shoulder.
"Ah~!"
Blood spurted out, and Pei Hanze finally sobered up somewhat, staring blankly at the blood on his hands.
"Prince, you are drunk," Qing Shan gritted her teeth in pain, struggled up from his embrace, her legs weak as she slowly pulled away from him.
Qing Shan knew she could use this incident as a pretext to entangle herself with Pei Hanze, but she couldn’t bring herself to do so.
Knowing he did not care for her, yet still scheming to climb into his bed, Qing Shan really couldn’t do it. She’d rather preserve this beautiful affection in the deepest recesses of her heart and let it slowly dissipate.
"Qing Shan!" Pei Hanze suddenly shouted, reaching out to grab her arm, looking at the blood on his hands with a furrowed brow, asking, "How are you?"
Qing Shan shook her head, smiling faintly, and weakly said, "It’s just a small injury."
Seeing her in this state, guilt washed over Pei Hanze, "I’m sorry, I just now..."
"It’s all right, Prince, your servant understands," she replied.
"I will take you back," Pei Hanze insisted, supporting Qing Shan as they left the room.
"Prince," Qing Shan called out softly, looking at the expression on Pei Hanze’s face, hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to tell him the truth.
"Prince, your servant likes you. Your servant knows that only the Princess resides in your heart, and understands you will not care for another woman, much less me. But still, your servant wanted to confess," Qing Shan said, looking up earnestly at Pei Hanze, her eyes brimming with profound affection and fondness.
Pei Hanze stopped in his tracks and gazed at her, his eyes filled with complexity. He knew Qing Shan wasn’t lying, yet this truth still pained him.
"It’s not because of your status that I do not care for you, but because my heart is already occupied by another, and it cannot accommodate anyone else," Pei Hanze replied earnestly.
Qing Shan bowed her head and pursed her lips in a faint smile, "Your servant understands, and had never dared to hope for your affection. Now, to hear your refusal directly from you confirms it."
Seeing her still-bleeding shoulder, Pei Hanze’s brows knitted slightly, "We should see a Doctor to dress your wound first."
Qing Shan took one last look at Pei Hanze and continued, "Your servant will not trouble you. From now on, I will observe proper decorum and keep to my station."
With that, Qing Shan bowed deeply to him and turned to leave.
Watching Qing Shan slowly disappearing from his sight, Pei Hanze did not follow her; he knew he couldn’t give her any hope, so he shouldn’t linger around her.
He couldn’t help but think of Ningning; he remembered she always loved wearing pink, always clinging to him, and acting coquettishly to make him happy,
Pei Hanze closed his eyes and rested back on the bed, filled with an overwhelming sense of melancholy.
He knew he could never forget Ningning in this lifetime, and so he didn’t want to give anyone else any hope.
Qing Shan ran out of Pei Hanze’s room and headed straight to the courtyard outside, where Shao He, who had just returned, saw her approaching.
Qing Shan was holding her shoulder, her fingertips stained with blood, her face pale and sweaty, obviously in severe pain.
"Who hurt you? Was it Pei Hanze?" Shao He quickly supported her and hurried toward the room.
Qing Shan waved her hand, "I’m fine, Miss, it has nothing to do with the Prince, I injured myself accidentally."
Shao He furrowed his brow, "How could you be so careless?"
"Yes, too careless," Qing Shan said with a wry smile.
How could she be so careless as to fall for someone who could never reciprocate her feelings, knowing it was like a moth to a flame, yet still she did it without turning back.
