Chapter 446 - 448: Arrested the Wrong Person

Chapter 446: Chapter 448: Arrested the Wrong Person

Pei Huaian returned to the medical hall with an obviously graver expression on his face than before. Instead of approaching the bed, he chose to sit at a table to one side.

Shao He noticed his off mood and asked, "Did the Prince say something?"

"No," Pei Huaian calmly replied, his eyes devoid of any trace of a smile.

Shao He lifted the blanket, intending to get out of bed, but Pei Huaian saw her movement and hurriedly rose to stop her.

"You have injuries on your body and need to rest well. Don’t move around."

Shao He grabbed his hand, "Today, I went out to buy a longevity lock for Xu Han’s child and unexpectedly encountered the Prince. It was just a chance meeting."

"You don’t need to explain to me. How could I not understand the kind of person you are?" Pei Huaian said tenderly.

Shao He looked at his expression and felt something was wrong, but before she could think it through, she heard people outside murmuring amongst themselves.

"Have you heard someone from the Shao Family has died?"

"Is it true or not?"

"I saw white mourning silk hung up in front of the Shao Family’s door, so it must be true."

Everyone was discussing back and forth, and whether it was true or not, the news that reached Shao He’s ears made her face change dramatically.

"Impossible, when we left, Shao Mingyang was clearly alive. How could someone possibly die in such a short span of time?" Shao He said in disbelief.

Clearly, when they had left, he had been alive. How could he have suddenly died?

Pei Huaian clenched his fists, his complexion becoming terribly grim.

"It seems someone wants to use Shao Mingyang’s death for their own ends," Pei Huaian said indifferently.

"Who killed Shao Mingyang? What is his purpose in doing this?" Shao He wondered.

"I do not know who killed him, but the person’s intentions are definitely related to you."

Pei Huaian already had a suspect in mind; aside from Pei Chengye, he could think of no one else.

"Since he has done this, he will definitely have a next move. It seems we can only adapt to the situation," Shao He said calmly.

The day she decided to become the Fifth Prince’s Consort, she had been well aware of her status and that she would be the target of others’ attacks, so she was not too panicked.

It was Pei Huaian who was feeling unstable, and Shao He expressed her concern, "Huaian, your physical condition is very poor, you..."

Pei Huaian waved his hand to cut her off, "It’s nothing, don’t worry."

Early the next morning, Anji Hall was surrounded by government officials, and Ye Suwen was taken from inside. This was the second time she had been detained by the soldiers.

Ye Suwen saw the onlookers around her, the corners of her mouth curving up in a mocking arc as she scanned the crowd. Indeed, she spotted a familiar figure.

In the crowd, Shao Zhengru watched with satisfaction as she was pushed onto the carriage, a smug smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

Shao He had been thrown into the jail, thinking she had been arrested because of Shao Mingyang’s death.

Unexpectedly, not much time had passed before she was released and informed that they had arrested the wrong person.

"You’re just letting me go like this?" Shao He asked, somewhat incredulously.

"This matter is unrelated to the young lady. Please accept our apologies!" the man said respectfully.

Shao He frowned in thought for a moment, then gave a slight nod of her head, "Since that’s the case, I’ll take my leave."

"Please get in the carriage, miss. We will take you back," the government official guided her towards another direction where a carriage was waiting.

Without any suspicion, Shao He got into the carriage without hesitation.

The coachman quickly drove the carriage, tearing through the Capital City. After some time, the carriage slowed to a stop, and Ye Suwen jumped down, her expression cooling as she surveyed the unfamiliar surroundings.

"Where are we?" she asked.

"We’ve left the Capital City," the coachman said and turned to leave.

Ye Suwen watched him, saying warily, "Why have you brought me out of the Capital? What do you intend to do? Who instructed you to do this?"

"You might as well save those questions for King Yan," the coachman advanced step by step toward her.

Ye Suwen looked around and realized that, given the remote location, even if she were to die there, nobody would know.

At the crucial moment, Shao He took out a sachet of powdered medicine and threw it. She then turned and ran.

Although she knew some close-quarters martial arts, using it to confront these people was evidently difficult. Of the thirty-six stratagems, fleeing was the best. If she could run, she should.

After running a distance, Ye Suwen hid behind the bushes and saw a carriage slowly emerge not far away. The carriage curtain was drawn back to reveal a pair of sharp eyes.

"Chase after her! We must capture her, she cannot be allowed to escape like this," the man’s voice was low and resonant.

Shao He tried hard to see the face, but the distance, coupled with the curtain, made it too difficult to discern, and ultimately she had to give up.

Shao He looked back at the forest, hesitated for a while, but eventually stepped inside. Although there might be some danger there, it was still much better than outside.

She hadn’t gone far when she suddenly heard "huffing" sounds behind her.

Shao He stopped in her tracks and turned to see a black wild boar glaring at her with ravenous eyes.

The wild boar’s eyes glowed green as if it had been hungry for a long time and was eager to pounce upon her savory flesh. Its nostrils flared as it took heavy breaths.

Shao He knew she couldn’t outrun it, so without hesitation, she climbed up a stout tree nearby.

She had no weapons on her person, and if she tried to fight, she was sure to become food for the boar.
