Chapter 359 - 360 Rest for a Day

Chapter 359: Chapter 360 Rest for a Day

Qingxia held a tray of clear water as she entered the room. Shao He picked up the warm water and patted it onto her face, the feeling of exhaustion disappearing without a trace, leaving only a cool sensation.

Shao He had a simple meal before heading to Anji Hall for her clinic.

Business had been exceptionally good these past few days, even causing long queues at Doctor Yun’s place, and they had made a killing.

The price they paid was collapsing onto the table, too exhausted even to muster the strength to drink water.

"How could there be so many people?"

Yun Qian said this with a voice so weak that one couldn’t hear him unless listening closely.

"I have no idea," Shao He responded in equally feeble tones.

Shao He had planned to go back and rest, but remembering that the soldiers at the General’s Mansion were waiting for treatment, she directed the carriage to turn around.

She arrived at the General’s Mansion, conducted check-ups for some soldiers, gave out medicine, treated others, and performed acupuncture where necessary.

After dealing with these soldiers, Shao He laid out the care instructions they needed to follow before hurriedly leaving.

Back at her own residence, Shao He felt utterly drained, her body swaying slightly as she walked. Without paying attention, she nearly had an intimate encounter with the ground.

In the critical moment, a hand wrapped around her waist, steadying her. Seeing the fatigued face of the person who helped her, Pei Huaian supported her into the inner hall to sit down.

"How did you end up like this?"

Despite his complaints, Pei Huaian did not stop his hands from massaging Shao He’s arms and shoulders.

"Ah, Anji Hall has been very busy lately, and I’ve been providing charity consultations to soldiers; it’s killing me." Never had Shao He felt as weary as she did today, barely able to lift her arms.

"If you keep going on like this, even government officials have days off to rest, but you don’t even have time to rest, how can you not be tired?" Pei Huaian looked at her with eyes full of concern.

She thought he made sense and, shaking her neck, said, "I plan to take a day off every ten days, but I might have to provide charity consultations for the Qi Family’s soldiers first."

"In your current exhausted state, how can you provide charity consultations for those soldiers? It’s better to take a day off tomorrow; one day won’t matter in terms of seeing patients."

"This..."

Shao He hesitated somewhat, given the sheer number of soldiers.

Seeing her moved by his suggestion, Pei Huaian immediately continued, "In such a state, it’s not suitable for you to continue consulting patients. You should take a break tomorrow."

"If you continue like this, you’ll only wear yourself out; you should know what’s more important. If you get sick, how will you be able to continue with your consultations?"

Shao He glanced sideways at him with eyes full of questions. Why did she feel that Pei Huaian was acting strange today, insisting that she must rest tomorrow?

"Is tomorrow a special day?"

Pei Huaian shook his head, answering honestly, "Nothing special at all."

"In that case, why must I rest tomorrow?" Shao He asked, puzzled.

It was then that Pei Huaian realized what she meant and quickly explained, "It just so happens I’m free tomorrow, and we can go out together; it’s also a chance for the family to spend more time together."

"Okay." Shao He nodded in response to his hopeful gaze.

Pei Huaian visibly brightened with joy. He stole a glance at Shao He and suggested, "How about we stroll around the city tomorrow? We rarely get to spend time together."

Thinking about how she rarely went out due to charity consults, Shao He agreed.

The peak of summer was scorching, but a rare overcast day provided some relief, as clouds gathered to shield the earth from the harsh sun, reducing the sunshine’s intensity and adding a touch of coolness to the land.

Only dappled shadows spilled through the canopies onto the ground. Street vendors called out as they pushed carts filled with melons, fruits, and vegetables, while a variety of goods dazzled the eyes.

Walking along the merchant street, Shao He followed Pei Huaian, looking around at their surroundings, glancing eastward and then westward.

Though Pei Huaian was dressed in common attire, his clothes were actually made of silk and brocade, and he did not look impoverished in the least. Coupled with his outstanding bearing and graceful demeanor, he drew the gaze of passersby.

Shao He, on the other hand, had chosen clothes that complemented his, and together they made a striking pair.

From time to time, Pei Huaian would pick up small items and pass them to Shao He. If she liked them, he bought them for her without hesitation.

They arrived at a mask stall. Pei Huaian casually tossed a tael of silver to the vendor and picked up two masks.

"Just ahead is the Sky Fragrant Tea House." Pei Huaian raised his hand to point at the three-story building ahead and said.

Looking toward the building, which was about five or six meters tall, Shao He noticed there was nothing particularly special about it. Even among the bustling streets of the capital, it appeared quite unremarkable and even cheap.

But Shao He knew that it was the most luxurious establishment on the entire street, with hundreds of customers coming daily to drink tea and listen to music.

Named Sky Fragrant, it was said to have been founded by a master exclusively for the high-ranking officials and nobility.

The tea house was frequented by wealthy and prestigious patrons, so it was always bustling with customers, ensuring thriving business every day.

Shao He was about to step inside when Pei Huaian caught her arm, pulling her back.

"Wait," Pei Huaian said in a low voice, holding onto her arm, "Put on your mask first."

Given their particular identities, it was safer to wear masks.
