Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 165: Looking For His Mate
Chapter 165: Looking For His Mate
"So you want us to trust you? Just like that, after your actions caused so much damage. I am not letting you out of these bounds," Faris’s chest thumped with the bond, trying to reach out and just touch her face. But all he could see was betrayal.
Although he could sense no hostility or lies from her, deep down he understood she was telling the truth. There was this apparent innocence about her he couldn’t ignore. He had waited so long for her and was finally about to make peace with the fact that he wasn’t going to find her and settle with Ara.
But the goddess had other plans and she hurtled like a storm into his life, wrecking whatever peace he had gathered, devastating his heart in the process.
Even if he was able to forgive her and learnt later that her story was based on truth, it wouldn’t erase her involvement in the murder of Ara.
He wondered if he could ever be able to forgive her in the true sense.
"Please! You have to rescue her, she is barely holding on. I am not sure how long she will survive. That balm and herbs I was buying were for her. I have been trying to heal her," Aiko lamented, tears of her burdened heart leaking out again.
A fierce growl resonated in Siroos’s chest at her revelation, his heart seemed to have been doused with acid.
"Untie her, Faris. We can’t waste any more time. She tries anything funny, you know what to do."
Faris was apprehensive but he went on to obey his brother quickly.
Siroos stepped closer, his flaming eyes stayed fixated on her as he slowly growled.
"You betray us, Kanyon will be the last of your worries. I would forget that you are my brother’s mate. I will find you whichever hole you will try to crawl into or whichever portal you will open to hide inside. Are we clear?"
Aiko slowly inhaled the saliva accumulating in her mouth and fearfully nodded. She understood she had enraged Siroos beyond reasoning.
"I won’t give you a reason. I will take you near the palace. Entering it will be an issue though."
Faris had removed the binds and she quietly stood up, rubbing her hands on her arms. Faris’s proximity was disabling her brain functions. She wished to lean in and wrap her arms around him, asking for forgiveness, but she knew better than to not touch him.
"I am going to open a portal to the woods nearby and can take you both. Then I will move ahead, and both of you can silently remain on my trail," she suggested; the fear of Kanyon gripped her heart.
"Fine but I am sticking with you while we pass through that portal." Faris grabbed her arm and the sparks descended in abundance, dancing around his hand where he gripped her arm.
The soft tantalising emotions that sparked inside her made a shaky breath escape her. His touch, although meant to be menacing, was reassuring for her. Her fox spirit dived low and purred, feeling comforted that this man wouldn’t hurt her but be her strength. Someone she would be able to lean on. It was such an intimate feeling, the one she had never been subjected to before.
"Alright," she softly answered and flicked her fingers. A portal very familiar to the one Faris had seen her earlier disappear into opened. Faris and Siroos exchanged glances and the older man approved with a curt nod.
Aiko and Faris entered first, followed by Siroos. The world swirled around them as they lost their footing and were hurled forward. Their breaths almost knocked out of them when they finally found solid ground again.
They steadied themselves and hurriedly glanced around. They were amidst a thick forest with gigantic pine trees towering over them. Freezing winds hurtled past.
"I have to go ahead now. I have been missing for too long, and Prince Kanyon will get suspicious," Aiko pleaded with the brothers. Her eyes wavering towards a specific mountain with a flat top.
"You will stay here. I am not stupid to let you go ahead and warn him. I will find the palace on my own. Faris, keep an eye on her," Siroos instructed, pushing his hair out of his eyes and getting ready to shift into a raven.
Aiko gulped as Faris held her arm in an iron grip. She knew she could escape; she had many tricks up her sleeve, but she had already broken Faris’s trust. The fox-shifter wanted to build trust and not give him a reason to hate her more.
"I will do that. Be safe. Call for me if you need help." Faris believed in his brother and knew he could single-handedly rescue his sister-in-law. He was capable enough.
Siroos shifted into the cunning blackbird and flapped his wings before flying away. His eyes focused ahead toward the mountaintop, which seemed to have been flattened, but he couldn’t see any structure.
But he felt her, an overwhelming sensation of her being nearby imbued itself into his very existence. She was here, kept behind a cloaking spell, separating them.
Flying closer he was met with an invisible barrier and understood that’s where the boundary of the palace started. It was time to put on a show. Lotus had earlier explained to him how she believed his dragon held the strength to burn through spells. This was the time to test the theory.
He hovered in the air, his small wings flapping against the relentless wintery winds.
The wings began to lengthen, his body began to enlarge, and scales appeared instead of fur and feathers and then his mighty dragon’s maw materialised.
It opened wide, the fire forming at the base of his throat as he hurled it out to burn the cloaking spell that hid his mate from him.
At this point, he was ready to burn anyone who would stand in his way. He wasn’t going to back down from getting to her.
