Chapter 1392: Chapter 4: Mere Firepower [Seeking Official Subscription]
Three monsters abruptly launched into the air, and the entire Star of Carnival seemed to have been provoked. In an instant, the countless colorful neon lights disappeared, replaced by the deafening sound of alarms!
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Nearly the entire celestial body echoed with this ominous sound.
The noise was bone-chilling, but Jia Yan knew that over the past few days, this noise had been a near-constant occurrence. The carnival monsters beneath the surface couldn’t even be bothered to look up.
As expected, most of the monsters below didn’t react dramatically. Some giggled and glanced at the flying Jia Yan and the female monster, while others didn’t even bother looking, continuing to eat and drink as if nothing had happened, laughing all the while.
"These three fools must be sick of living. Haha, let’s bet—I’ll say they won’t last more than twenty seconds before they crash and burn."
"I bet it’s less than three seconds. No way they go that long."
"Disrespecting people now, aren’t you? I saw those two flying just yesterday. They’re even high-level talent sub-barrier class. I’d wager they might last a minute. But in the end, they’ll die anyway. Stupid fools, going up against the Doom Squad, hahaha."
The monsters, those still halfway sober at least, began chatting mockingly about Jia Yan and the other two monsters attempting to escape, relishing the spectacle.
On the Star of Carnival, entry might have been easy, but leaving was not. Proper procedures had to be followed; if one attempted to leave on their own, it was a forbidden act.
Previously, a few strong ones had tried to rely on their talent or sheer strength to escape, but they were without exception killed and fell to their demise.
Every time this happened, there would be groups of drunken powerhouses on the ground, placing bets and holding mock trials of the escapees.
But above the skies, Jia Yan and the female monster named Fina couldn’t have cared less about the thoughts of these has-been "strong ones" below. Their sole focus was on escaping as quickly as possible.
"Hm? Even subspace seems to be affected here!"
Following Fina’s lead as they ascended, Jia Yan’s expression changed slightly.
He had intended to test subspace, but he discovered that even with his subspace talent, opening a subspace here took an extraordinarily long time. For an average subspace-talent strongman, it would have been outright impossible to open it.
"Fascinating," Jia Yan said, a flicker of curiosity gleaming in his eyes.
Meanwhile, the undercover operative, Fina, wasn’t nearly as relaxed. For her, exposing her true self had led to an ultimate test of life and death.
"Watch out. Up ahead are defensive blasts, but they’re aimed partially inward too. Stay cautious."
Fina spoke with a solemn expression, warning Jia Yan from behind.
Her figure then seemed to blur slightly.
At that exact moment, a blinding light erupted before Jia Yan’s eyes.
High above the celestial body’s atmosphere, a weapon disguised as a meteorite suddenly unleashed a devastating bombardment downward.
The firepower was overwhelming, perhaps the most terrifying Jia Yan had ever encountered.
In the Genius Battlefield, such devastating firepower was typically forbidden. The zone was designed to cultivate strong ones, not to foster strength through weapons of mass destruction. For such weaponry, capable of even threatening semi-permanent star-level entities, to appear here was extremely rare. When it did, it was typically reserved for the defensive arsenal of certain superpower faction headquarters.
Yet now, on this tiny Star of Carnival, there wasn’t just this massive cannon. As the first blast rained down, over twenty other cannons simultaneously unleashed their fury in Jia Yan’s direction!
"Hah, so that’s her plan after all," Jia Yan muttered, unperturbed, staring at the oncoming rain of fire. He even had the mind to glance at Fina, who was moving rapidly ahead.
She was nearly invisible now, her body almost entirely transparent and her energy signature practically gone. Though not completely undetectable, she was no easy target for the cannons either.
With Jia Yan and his avatar taking the brunt as decoys behind her, she was far safer than before.
Jia Yan understood now why she had sought him out as a partner in escape—he was merely a shield meant to draw fire.
Of course, this was an exchange. Neither party had any complaints.
"You think mere cannon fire can bring me down? Don’t make me laugh!"
Ever since Jia Yan had stepped into the starry sky, he had rarely felt threatened by technological weaponry. Though he admitted that some types could kill even him, the weapons he faced now were far from that level!
In an instant, his body was enveloped in a radiant blue energy.
Using his cellular energy, even the external surface of his conceptual ship began shimmering with a faint bluish hue. However, due to the energy transformation and the physical properties of memory metal, the ship was not entirely blue—still, it was difficult to associate it directly with Jia Yan’s true form.
His avatar, stationed behind him, showed no "noble character" at all, instantly moving behind Jia Yan’s conceptual ship body, using it as a shield.
"Come at me," Jia Yan’s eyes sparkled with resolve.
He had no intention of foolishly taking the bombardment head-on with his conceptual ship.
As the first blast of light streaked toward Jia Yan with unrelenting speed, just 0.001 seconds before it was about to strike him...
Pop!
The beam, aimed directly at him, suddenly veered off course!
It bent completely away.
The blast missed Jia Yan altogether, grazing past his body and striking down below onto the surface of the Star of Carnival instead.
Soon, before the surface explosion could settle, dozens more beams rained down in unison.
While they appeared as beams of light, fast and destructive, defeating strong ones with mere lasers or beams alone was impossible. The light beams must therefore have been infused with some kind of substance—either of high mass or explosive nature. The beams currently being fired exhibited explosive characteristics.
However, having such properties meant their true speed couldn’t reach the speed of light. If they did, Jia Yan couldn’t dodge them even if he tried, as they’d be instantaneous.
Now, due to their mass, Jia Yan’s powerful countermeasures directly manipulated their trajectories.
Boom!
Beam after beam, their paths twisted as they diverted from Jia Yan and slammed into parts of the Star of Carnival below.
Boom! Boom! Boom!!!
Explosions erupted one after another.
Monsters screamed in anger and frustration as they were caught in the blasts, flying into the air amidst the chaos.
"How is this possible?"
Amid the explosions, Jia Yan remained entirely unharmed. This scene left the Star of Carnival’s higher-ups utterly dumbfounded.
They had anticipated that he might brute-force his way or evade entirely, but not that he would remain motionless, yet no beam or cannon fire could land a single hit on him.
They didn’t understand the principle behind it, but Jia Yan knew very well—he had deployed his secret weapon stored within subspace: an artificial black hole.
This artificial black hole hadn’t been used much lately—not because Jia Yan’s power had matured beyond its utility, but because his space stone reserves had dwindled alarmingly, making it hard to sustain.
Even now, Jia Yan felt a pang of regret. At this rate, his last space stone’s energy would soon be entirely consumed.
But his regret was nothing compared to those below.
"Stop! Cease the cannon fire! His ability is too strange, and firing only damages our own planet. Do you understand how much we’ll lose if the Star of Carnival gets obliterated by our own weapons?"
In the general command center of the Star of Carnival, a semi-permanent star-level genius stood up.
As one of the higher-ups who had invested personal effort into building the Star of Carnival, the sight of their handiwork being pounded to rubble was agonizing to them.
"It seems these cannons won’t do much against him—and worse, they’re hurting our own assets. I’ll handle this personally."
The mid-tier talented semi-permanent star monster stomped its foot and left the general command area.
During this time, the steady stream of cannon fire suddenly ceased, as if silenced.
This abrupt cessation stunned not only the onlookers eagerly waiting for Jia Yan to crash, but even the female star monster, Fina, flying ahead of him.
"What kind of monster is he? A sub-barrier strongman who doesn’t flinch against this level of firepower—and he looks like he’s still holding back?!"
Her eyes sparkled with newfound hope. Previously, even while fleeing, one of the beams had hit her. If not for her exceptionally strong armor, she would’ve been dead by now.
Seeing Jia Yan’s terrifying prowess, the hope in Fina’s gaze grew stronger.
"You three criminals not only dared to escape, but you now destroy my Star of Carnival’s property and harm its people. Prepare to die."
As Jia Yan and Fina aimed for the now cannon-free zone, ready to flee at last, shadows suddenly swarmed from below. Numerous phantom-like creatures flew up, targeting them relentlessly.
It was the four phantom monsters who had been pursuing Jia Yan before!
"This is bad! It’s the Carnival Star’s four big substandard strong players—run!"
Fina’s expression shifted dramatically upon seeing the shadowy figures of the four monsters.
Among the Dark Realm creatures, high-level talents were rare. After all, high-level talent geniuses could thrive easily in the outside world—why would they join dark powers?
But on the Star of Carnival, there was a high-level talent sub-barrier level genius promoted by the Doom Squad power to the level of a "top genius," exaggerated into a legend.
And within the quartet chasing Jia Yan, that very genius was among their ranks.
"Oh? The four big sub-barrier-level geniuses, huh," Jia Yan muttered, gazing down at the quartet of monsters soaring toward him. He was intrigued, particularly by the leading one whose presence exerted considerable pressure.
"Hmph. Ever since acquiring my conceptual ship, I haven’t yet had a decent fight with a high-level talent sub-barrier genius. Looks like today’s the day!"
Without feeling an ounce of fear, Jia Yan charged directly toward the approaching quartet of geniuses.
Behind him, his high-level talent sub-barrier avatar wore a mocking grin, rushing to meet the four next-level monsters
