Chapter 590: It was Akin to Cheating!

Ferdinand panicked so he simply grabbed Alvis and teleported back to Estrella.

"That’s what happened. You really did not get injured, right?" Ferdinand asked again just for sure. He examined Arabella for the nth time.

"Thank you for telling me what happened.

And I did not get injured.

Alwin only gave me a lot of mana to make you return here.

It was part of the plan for you to misunderstand so you would come back quickly.

We feared that if the years simply went by, I might not even be alive when you returned.

So, we had to do this even if you might get furious."

Arabella felt bad for alarming Ferdinand, so she revealed their plan to make him return.

"I see. It did work perfectly," Ferdinand nodded his head in understanding. Thankfully he was not angry about it. He did not intend to punish Alwin either. He was just relieved that both of them were alright.

"But now, you reek of Alwin’s mana."

’Eh, I do?’ Arabella blinked repeatedly. ’Right. He’s sensitive to everything.’

"I’m sorry.

Alwin said he heard that the fight of primordials could go on for too long.

We didn’t know what else to do.

After what happened to him there last time, I didn’t want to send him back to Umbra, so I agreed to receive his mana," Arabella explained.

"It’s alright. I understand," Ferdinand assured her.

He clearly looked like he had more to say so Arabella waited.

"But what I don’t understand was why it had to be here where you both were alone."

Ferdinand added looked around and no matter how one looked at it, it was clear they intentionally went here to be alone.

"Alwin had become quite daring.

First, he went to Umbra all alone even when I and everyone else was against it.

Now he gave my wife a lot of mana without telling any of his elders.

Was he not educated that giving that much mana to you could be interpreted as him trying to challenge me for your hand?" Ferdinand wondered out loud.

"What?!"

"To the long-lived races, getting a mate is a matter of whose stronger, more powerful, but likewise wittier. Who wins the fight no matter what strategy he uses could be chosen by the one being wooed," Ferdinand explained.

It was similar to human society where the one proposed to would choose whom he or she thought was the best.

However, to the long-lived races, it was something so much more complicated because of their powers involved.

"Receiving and giving that much mana is also a sign of affection. It could mean you have feelings for someone."

Arabella was horrified when she learned from Ferdinand that giving that much mana without any particular reason or need to have made it necessary could be interpreted as Alwin having feelings for her. That was what he meant when he said it was as if Alwin was challenging him for her hand.

It was also why Ferdinand kept giving Arabella so much mana.

It was an act of affection and showing his love.

Especially since she benefits from it a lot by healing more quickly, becoming healthier, and in the long term, her appearance would not age.

Meaning, that she would be like the long-lived races the longer she received bulk amounts of mana from Ferdinand.

Moreover, among the long-lived races, they do it as another way of marking their mate to ward off other suitors that the person was already taken.

Thus, receiving mana from Alwin if it wasn’t for healing or other valid purposes, was akin to cheating!

Thankfully, it wasn’t the first thing that crossed Ferdinand’s mind because he was more concerned that she could have been injured gravely and Alwin needed to heal her to stabilize her condition. And that was why he rushed to return.

’He does think and care about me a lot,’ Arabella smiled happily.

[What’s with that smile and look in her eyes, it’s like she’s giving some kind of praise. What is she thinking about?] Ferdinand blushed when he saw her smile.

"What’s on your mind?"

"I’m just glad you immediately returned here out of worry for me," Arabella gave him a peck on the cheek.

[It feels so nice. I want more.] Ferdinand gulped. His ears were red.

It was nice to see him react this way even after all the times they had been intimate.

"Does this mean I am forgiven for overstaying?"

"Yes, but please don’t do it again. I need to be informed if you are going to stay away for a while. I was able to receive a letter from Evania through a bird made of magic. So, if the ring doesn’t work in Umbra and other long distances, please send me a letter."

Arabella didn’t want to wait without any word from him again. It was terrifying when she didn’t know what was going on with him.

"Thank you. I will contact you in any way I can if I ever must be away from you and cannot return as I pleased," Ferdinand promised.

However, he also gave her a warning, "Arabella, if someone tells you they want to give you some of their mana, do not ever accept it unless it was an emergency and they had good intentions. Rather, don’t ever accept mana from someone you do not know."

"Yes, of course. This was an emergency," Arabella quickly added.

"In case I’m not around and you ever need to receive mana from Alwin or someone else again, you must receive it where there are witnesses to prevent any speculations.

Raymond and Rendell could have been perfect witnesses."

Ferdinand informed her that it wasn’t only in the human realm that rumors spread quickly. It spreads even more quickly in Estrella because of magic.

It would not be a good thing if rumors were to spread that Alwin dared to challenge Ferdinand.

"Yes, I will keep that in mind," Arabella hoped that wouldn’t ever happen though since it meant she was gravely injured for her to need a lot of mana.
