Chapter 591: I Will Attend All Social Events with You

"Yes, I will keep that in mind," Arabella hoped that wouldn’t ever happen though since it meant she was gravely injured for her to need a lot of mana.

"And do not ever allow someone you do not trust to give you mana.

It’s dangerous since your body is filled with my mana.

It was Alwin so it was alright since his mana is highly influenced by mine.

But if it was someone else, there could have been adverse effects if there were incompatibility issues."

’Yeah, Alwin didn’t explain those. Did he think I would back out if he informed me about these beforehand?’ Arabella sighed.

[Eh? Did it sound like I was scolding her?]

"Arabella, I was just trying to inform you. I wasn’t scolding you or anything," Ferdinand said when he heard her sigh.

"Ah, yes. I was just relieved things didn’t go wrong. What would we have done if you didn’t return?"

Ferdinand paled at the at that.

"That wouldn’t happen. Elrond would have contacted me, unless he didn’t feel time passing either. If there was no other solution, Alwin or Raymond could have gone to ask Elrond for help. He would have been able to contact me," Ferdinand explained.

"I see. That’s a relief."

She surmised that Alwin did not think of asking Elrond for help first since he did not like depending on other people. After all, he was renowned in Estrella.

"Oh, right. Alfredo must have prepared a lot of food again. He had been quite depressed lately since I haven’t been eating much. He thought it was his fault. Let’s have dinner with Alwin and Alvis," Arabella suggested.

Alvis was their guest so it wouldn’t be good to not invite him for a meal.

"Is that why you have lost a lot of weight? Are tired of the meals he’s preparing?" Ferdinand was alarmed.

"No. It’s just hard to eat alone," Arabella pointed out.

[It’s my fault?!]

"I’m sorry. Let’s eat our meals together all the time from now on," Ferdinand promised.

"Not all the time. Because we would both be working and attending events on our own. Or are you going to attend social events with me from now on," Arabella tilted her head.

[Those damned and boring social events?!]

Ferdinand gulped and thought about it. He still disliked those events. But he recalled the Assembly in Medeus.

[Ah, right. I need to attend from now on. I can’t possibly let Arabella go without an escort. And I need to be around her to stop annoying flies from approaching her.]

"Yes, I’ll attend events with you from now on," Ferdinand agreed.

"Thank you!" Arabella hugged him in delight.

’Finally! I don’t need to persuade him to attend events together anymore. I won’t have to attend the events all alone again!

She had been thinking about what to say in case she attended the events without him again. People would have interpreted it as Ferdinand losing interest in her.

But now, he would finally attend the events with her.

It’s true he disliked it just like Alwin does but it’s his duty as an emperor. He needed to maintain his social connections as well to prevent the nobles from betraying him in the future.

[She’s this happy about it?] Ferdinand did not understand why.

"You like social events this much?" he inquired.

"It’s not about whether I like social events or not. It’s our duty to attend such things to strengthen our bond with the people," Arabella clarified.

"Right," Ferdinand had been alone for too long, so he did not understand or had forgotten the value of maintaining friendly ties.

"It’s also a way of showing that our relationship is going well. You have seen the Assembly, right? Almost everyone attended with their spouses," Arabella added.

"Does that mean if you attended those events alone, people would have thought our relationship is not going well?!" Ferdinand frowned.

"Yes. They could interpret it that way. We could simply say we are both busy. But of course, everyone would have their own interpretations."

She did not say how they could interpret it as Ferdinand no longer fancying her.

[Right, in the events in Medeus, they even kept asking her all sorts of questions that I never even dared to ask her.]

Ferdinand recalled that they talked about their spouses and those who had friends introduced their spouses to their friends.

Meaning, if Arabella went to such events alone, she would be asked about her husband, why he was not with her, and all sorts of questions.

Ferdinand realized it was kind of sad to be surrounded by people with their spouses or dates smiling and laughing happily while she was all alone.

[Why didn’t I think about this sooner?! It would be terrible for her to go alone on such events.]

"I’ll attend all events with you no matter what it is," Ferdinand held her hand.

"Thank you. I really appreciate it," Arabella gave him another kiss on the cheek.

They discussed a bit more in the garden until they were notified that dinner was ready.

"I am overwhelmed to be able to have dinner with you, Your Majesty," Alvis beamed. He still thought of her dearly as if she was still the Fairy Queen who was once his friend.

"I as well," Arabella smiled back.

"Just go to your seat already, Alvis," Ferdinand disturbed them.

"How could you treat me like this after I went through so much effort to stop your monstrous mana from leaking while you were fighting? Then, you suddenly drag me back without a word," Alvis complained.

"That was Nero’s fault. You complain to him," Ferdinand passed the blame to someone else.

Alvis still complained though, but Ferdinand just ignored him and turned to Arabella instead, "Sit here."

He pulled a seat for her before he settled down as well.

Alvis gawked at that and smiled teasingly, "Oh my. Is this really happening in front of me?"

Alvis wanted to tease Ferdinand, but he was ignored yet again.

"Alwin, what are you doing? Sit down as well," Ferdinand spoke with Alwin instead. "Have you recovered fully?"

"Yes, my lord," Alwin was acting shyly after realizing that both Ferdinand and Alvis treasured him more than he thought.
