Chapter 588: I Just Taught Him a Bit of a Lesson
Arabella allowed herself to be comforted by his words, soft kisses on her face and hair, and warm embrace.
[How could I have made Arabella wait for me for that long without any contact?! I was such an idiot. I should have just ignored that bastard.]
Ferdinand regretted fighting for too long.
[Now, I know why I kept feeling uneasy while I was fighting with that bastard.
He kept attacking me every time I tried to talk.]
"Arabella, I deeply apologize.
I never would have stayed there for that long if I had known that much time had passed.
I swear, I would be more vigilant.
I won’t do it again.
Please punish me however you want."
Ferdinand asked for punishment when she did not say a single word as he repeatedly apologized.
"No need," Arabella finally stopped crying.
She did not mean to cry like this, but she ended up doing so anyway. She simply wanted him to know that she had been waiting for him to return for almost three months now.
What was important was she let Ferdinand know how she felt, and he truly felt bad for it. And he seemed to have circumstances which was why he could not return.
[Of course, she would still be angry. What should I do?]
Ferdinand gulped nervously.
He misunderstood her.
His hands trembled slightly as he dried the remaining tears on her cheeks.
Arabella was about to correct his misunderstanding, but she realized she should hear his explanation first before saying she forgave him.
"Please tell me. Why did you take so long to return? What happened while you were in Umbra?" she wanted to hear it directly from him.
"Ah, about that, after Alvis and I entered the gate Elrond made, we had to kill monsters staying just outside the Shadow Territory since they were getting in our way," Ferdinand began.
"Eh, that was also what happened to Alwin. Are monsters that abundant in Umbra?" Arabella thought out loud.
"Alwin did?" Ferdinand hasn’t heard about it yet since he just returned. "There are indeed more monsters there, but they shouldn’t be gathered near densely populated locations."
’Will Evania be fine? She would get used to seeing monsters there again, right?’ Arabella recalled how Evania was obsessed with beauty. The monsters she had seen so far were not beautiful. They were terrifying and eerie.
"Alwin said that when he teleported to Umbra, he ended up in an open monster’s mouth. He got swallowed up," Arabella informed Ferdinand.
"What?!"
The thought of Alwin getting eaten horrified him.
[Could he have not escaped it?]
"Were my suspicions true? Did he get gravely injured and have to heal for a while before he headed to the Shadow Territory?!"
’Look at that expression on his face. Alwin should have seen it. Are they watching us somewhere?’
She could not hear their thoughts though so likely not.
"Ah, he had to stay inside the monster for a while, but he was able to blow it up. He said he was able to put up a barrier, so he was alright," Arabella assured her husband.
"I, I see," Ferdinand sighed in relief.
[That brat! I need to train him again. His skills have rusted. He should have been able to sense it and moved away or teleported quickly.]
’Good luck, Alwin. I can’t help you with the training,’ Arabella internally apologized.
She knew Alwin hated training since it would lessen his experiment time. But perhaps, he would at least love training with Ferdinand since it meant they would be together more often.
"What happened after that?" Ferdinand inquired.
He was supposed to be talking about himself, but he was more curious about what happened to Alwin.
Arabella decided to inform him first so he would no longer worry about it.
"Alwin said after blowing up the monster, he realized he was already brought to a den of monsters, so he had to fight for some time before he was able to begin heading to the Shadow Territory."
"So, it was one of the reasons he got delayed," Ferdinand nodded his head in understanding.
"Yes. And when he reached the Shadow Territory, they did not believe his words, so they imprisoned him.
"Since he was able to destroy his prison and get out repeatedly, they used the curse on him.
"It was only when he was able to convince Princess Evania’s fiancé and personal guard to leave with him and head to Riva did, he finally get out."
"I heard about that from the King of the Shadows.
He was such an idiot, so I taught him a bit of lesson.
How dare he imprison and curse Alwin?!
That bastard is unbelievable," Ferdinand fumed.
Arabella smiled. It was nice to see Ferdinand like this after so long.
"Oops," Ferdinand covered his mouth when he realized what he just said.
[Why did I say that? She would know I did something even though she already told me not to cause an uproar.]
"Hahaha," Arabella laughed at the expression on his face. He looked so cute.
"..." Ferdinand just stared at her.
[I could finally hear her laughter again. It’s so rejuvenating. And she looks so pretty. But what was so funny?]
"Why are you laughing?" he inquired since he did not understand what was funny.
"I heard your thoughts. I already know about some of what you did. I heard there was a huge crater in their palace garden. They even made it into a new lake."
[She already knows?!] Ferdinand was wide-eyed.
"Arabella, I only fought with the King of the Shadows for a bit to make him pay for what he did. And because he refused to undo the curse immediately.
It was his fault for what he did to Alwin.
I just taught him a bit of lesson.
The crater happened because I intentionally did not hit him or he would die, I mean, get injured.
I swear, I didn’t cause a fight without reason," he desperately explained.
[She wouldn’t get angry, right?] Ferdinand eyed her nervously.
