Chapter 568: He’s That Young?

"Oh my, goodness!" Evania paled when she looked up and saw Alwin in his cursed state.

[How could Father do this to my Alwin?! Unforgivable.] Evania internally fumed.

’Your Alwin? I think that’s not quite right,’ Arabella wanted to point out.

[This curse gives so much pain, and yet, it doesn’t show on his face. How could he maintain that poker face even if he must be suffering a lot? Why is he still so sinfully divine even in this state?]

’Oh my. It still didn’t go away,’ Arabella internally facepalmed. Evania was still attached to beauty since not all her memories had returned.

"My deepest apologies. I heard Your Eminence was cursed by my father. I swear; I will ensure he undo the curse as soon as we arrive," Evania promised.

"I see. Thank you, Your Highness," Alwin said in a plain, neutral tone.

[How could he act so cold to Her Highness when she’s clearly so concerned about him?!]

Alwin earned glares from Darcus and Orpheus. He ignored them though.

Meanwhile...

[This is bad. I already feel so guilty for leaving Darcus and Orpheus without saying anything. They have waited for me for years. But I still like Alwin after all. What should I do? He’s simply too perfect and his features and everything about him are so different from the men at home.] Evania was still infatuated with Alwin.

’I’m sorry, Alwin. I don’t know how to help you anymore,’ Arabella gave up on dissuading Evania after she still liked Alwin even with her most recent memories in Umbra.

’Perhaps time would help.’

Once Evania returns to her homeland and Darcus and Orpheus remain by her side, she might gradually forget about Alwin.

"What do you plan to do now?" Arabella inquired.

"I, I want to return to Umbra as soon as possible, Your Majesty," Evania said with so much determination in her eyes.

’Oh my. We don’t have to convince her at all indeed.’

"The longer I stay here, the longer His Eminence suffers from the curse. It was made to give excruciating and torturous pain. I cannot fathom how His Eminence can act as he usually does despite all this pain," Evania lamented.

’It was made to give that much pain?!!’

{Alwin, are you really alright?!! Why didn’t you say it was that painful? We could have told her directly about the truth if you were suffering that much.} Arabella touched her summoning ring.

{I used several layers of spells to nullify the pain, so I don’t feel anything.} Alwin assured her.

{I, I see. That’s a relief.}

"I want to go home so my father will know His Eminence did not lie about me at all and undo the spell so he would no longer be in pain," Evania gazed at Alwin affectionately much to Darcus and Orpheus’ dismay.

[I know he must have used spells to nullify the pain since he was no longer showing any signs of feeling it.] Orpheus knew.

[When His Majesty activated the curse, he groaned and winced in pain. The agony was evident on his face. But he had clearly done something once His Majesty left, so he wouldn’t feel it. He’s not in pain at all for some time now.] Darcus also knew Alwin already used a spell.

Still, even if Alwin could no longer feel the pain, his body was still constantly damaged and healed. It was quite a cruel cycle, so it was best indeed if Evania returned home as soon as possible.

"Thank you for being considerate of His Eminence. He may have quite the tolerance to pain, but it’s indeed bad for his health. Due to the effects of the curse, he is constantly healing his body even as we speak," Arabella appealed to Evania’s guilt and concern for Alwin.

"Oh, my goodness. I must go home soon," Evania glanced at Alwin with worry.

[I’m not sure if I can return here after going home, but I cannot keep Alwin suffering.]

"Your Majesty, this is my resignation letter."

Alwin received the resignation letter and checked it before handing it to Arabella, and just the fact that they held the same document made Evania blush.

[Why? She already has her most recent memories. Has she gotten over me? Does she hate me now? Is that why she ran away?] Darcus bit his lip.

[Does Evania treasure Alwin much more than Darcus now? Had her tastes really changed while she was here?] Orpheus was also puzzled.

"I see that you are ready. You would indeed need to settle the matters here before you could leave. Say goodbye to your workmates as well," Arabella reminded.

She then signed the resignation letter and used her official seal.

Since it was the ministers who hired Evania, Raymond also had to sign the document, so Alwin brought it to him.

"Your Majesty, I’m curious. Alwin is... I mean, His Eminence... How old is His Eminence?" Evania asked while Alwin was away.

"Oh, about that..."

Arabella was unsure if she should say it since Alwin avoided it when Darcus and Orpheus wanted to ask about it. But she felt like she should tell Evania that Alwin was so much younger than she was.

"Alwin is six millennia and several years (6000+) old."

Arabella copied the way Darcus and Orpheus said their age. She figured that must be how they say it. It indeed made their lives not look that long if it was said in just a few words.

"Eh?!! He’s that young?!" Evania was horrified.

"His mana is so abundant and powerful that I thought he was several millennia older than us," Orpheus was shocked too.

"He was the Great Primordial’s magician, so I also thought he was older than us. His presence felt like that of a dragon, so we were confused by his appearance at first and thought he was using magic to conceal his real kind," Darcus was also surprised.

"T-that can’t be. How can he be so young? Now that some of my memories and abilities are back, I can feel his mana. It’s so powerful as if he was so much older than me. His presence feels more like a dragon indeed instead of an elf," Evania was confused and did not want to believe it.
