Chapter 488: He Forgot It Was Just a Play [Bonus Chapter]

[Hmm... Young Lady Monica almost got hurt when the Young Master caused a fire the second time. But the Duchess wouldn’t possibly hurt the Young Master, right?]

One of the knights glanced at Sonia.

[No one got hurt when the Young Master caused a fire before he went missing. But it did take a lot of effort to clean up and repair things. But that’s not enough reason for anyone to hurt the Young Master.] One of the maids thought.

[Her Grace said that the Young Master was only having a nightmare. But maybe, it was true that someone went to his room and tried to abduct him.] Another maid on standby thought.

"There were indeed instances when he accidentally caused fire. But it was never intentional. My son is gentle and kind. He only began to be withdrawn and silent after his mother died. And even more so after the first time he accidentally caused a fire," Duke Olivier explained.

[Never intentional?!! My Monica could have gotten scarred for life and yet, he easily dismisses it as if it wasn’t intentional! Dimo never accepted me and my children as a part of this household. He never even called me Duchess but simply Aunt. He didn’t like us here nor ever tried to accept us. He was the one who began this. I wouldn’t have to get rid of him if he accepted us in the first place.] Sonia glared at the Duke for a second.

Arabella was speechless for a few moments due to Sonia’s thoughts.

’How could she blame the young child who had just lost his mother and was still grieving? A child’s world is usually their mother and father. And Dimo’s world fell apart when his mother died. The Duke may have been able to move on but it was harder for the child who barely understood what even happened.’

Arabella understood that Sonia wanted the best for her children. Most mothers do.

And in the first place, Sonia was the one who accepted the marriage with the Duke even though she already had someone else in her heart.

Sonia knew that the Duke had a son with his late wife. But did she accept Dimo? It was a big NO. She also never accepted Dimo, yet she wanted Dimo to accept her.

If Sonia had treated Dimo like a son of her own, Dimo would have softened up to her over time since he was longing for a mother’s love. If Sonia had done that, Dimo would have accepted her.

’How could she ask for the child to make the first move when he didn’t have the maturity to think of things from her perspective? It’s quite common for children not to easily accept the second wife or their new siblings. Especially since n Dimo’s case, his mother died.’

"Then perhaps, someone from the people involved in those incidents was the one who beat him up and tried to kill him. The extent of his injuries was too much to say they simply wanted to teach him a lesson or two. It was clear they wanted to kill him," Arabella directly said since she was triggered by Sonia’s thoughts.

[What is she saying? Does she actually know it was us?! Her words since earlier seem to be directed at me.] Sonia was beginning to notice but she had no proof.

"I see. That is indeed possible. I shall have them investigated as well," Duke Olivier said, and Sonia and the Head Butler stiffened.

[What’s that supposed to mean?! Dimo’s playmate and his family are in the capital. Is he saying he would investigate me too? The people involved in the recent fire are just the people in this castle. Is he saying he would have everyone here investigated?]

Sonia glanced at the Head Butler for help and the latter gave her a look that said, ’Later.’

"That was all we came here for today. His Majesty and I are busy so we should get going. I only wanted to send back Dimo here in person since he’s panicky when he’s with people he doesn’t know," Arabella began to say goodbye.

Sonia and the Head Butler were visibly relieved.

"Whatever is the cause of this incident, we leave it up to you to uncover, Duke and Duchess. I hope this doesn’t happen again. This boy is quite an adorable child after all."

"Yes, Your Majesty. We are ever grateful for your kindness and generosity to Demetrius."

The two thanked them.

"Dimo, come here now. It’s time for Her and His Majesty to leave," Duke Olivier said and Dimo was wide-eyed.

"We have sent you home. Maybe we will see each other again in Medeus. Goodbye, Demetrius," Arabella said and Dimo paled.

[They are leaving me here?!!! Why?!!]

Arabella and Ferdinand rose and Dimo grabbed her arm and embraced it.

"No, Your Majesty! Please take me with you. Don’t leave me here. I don’t want to live here anymore," Dimo cried.

His eyes were red, and his expression was real. His grip on her arm was tight.

’Eh? Did he forget this is just an act?’

"Dimo, that’s rude to our guests. Let go of Her Majesty’s arm," Sonia scolded.

[What’s going on? Dimo’s clearly in a panic. Did he forget we are acting? Did he get too nervous?] Duke Olivier didn’t know what to do.

Still, it was important to show that Dimo truly didn’t want to stay in Olivier anymore so everyone in this room could serve as a witness that it was Dimo who wanted to stay in Valeria and was not forced by Arabella or Ferdinand.

Likewise, he needed Dimo in a safe place so he could act freely later without worrying that they might get to him while he was busy with the investigation.

Thus, Duke Olivier decided to continue the play.

"Dimo, come here. Don’t worry, father is here now. I will protect you," Duke Olivier opened his arms, but Dimo kept crying and held onto Arabella’s arm even more.
