Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 489: I Don’t Want to Stay Here
Chapter 489: I Don’t Want to Stay Here
"Dimo, come here. Don’t worry, father is here now. I will protect you," Duke Olivier opened his arms, but Dimo kept crying and held onto Arabella’s arm even more.
[They said I could keep learning magic if I behaved. Did I do something wrong?! But... I don’t want to stay here no matter what. I’m sure Aunt Sonia and the Head Butler will keep trying to kill me. They already attempted several times. My nanny even died because of the poison.]
Dimo was truly afraid that Arabella and Ferdinand would leave him behind despite saying he could stay in the Magic Tower. His tears worsened and his grip on her arm tightened to the point it hurt.
"Child, let go. You are hurting the Empress," Ferdinand warned Dimo when he noticed.
Dimo sniffed and glanced at Arabella’s arm and then to her face. He looked guilty and wanted to loosen up his hold, but he feared they would teleport without him, so he didn’t.
"But you’ll leave me behind, waaahh!!!" He cried loudly now like a small toddler.
[Look at what you’ve done Sonia! You’ve traumatized my son to this extent.] Duke Olivier’s hands balled into fists. [How can I calm him down? His Majesty might get irritated if he’s like this.]
"Dimo, let go of Her Majesty’s hand."
"Come here, now. That’s extremely rude to our guests."
Duke Olivier and Sonia both approached.
Dimo was wide-eyed and hugged Arabella’s arm so tightly, she couldn’t help but wince.
[This child! He forgot this was an act, didn’t he?]
"I will punish you if you keep hurting my wife," Ferdinand noticed Arabella’s wince and gave a second warning. But it fell on deaf ears.
"Even so. I don’t want to stay here. Please take me with you. I don’t care if you punish me later," Dimo replied. He did hear it, but he was too scared of Sonia to care.
[This boy is quite bold to fear his aunt but not His Majesty.] Rowan thought. He hadn’t seen how Ferdinand had interacted with Dimo before.
Dimo gawked at Sonia who was approaching.
[No, she’s going to get me!]
"Your Majesty, please help me. I don’t want to stay here. Please take me with you," Dimo begged.
[Why does he keep glancing at the Duchess like that? It’s as if she’s the one he’s scared of.] The Knight Commander noted.
"Alright. Alright. I’ll help you. Calm down, okay? Calm down. Everything will be alright," Arabella couldn’t take it anymore and embraced Dimo.
Dimo let go of her arm and hugged her waist, burying his face on her belly, and kept sobbing.
She felt his tears soak her clothes.
"Everything will be alright," she said in a gentle voice and rubbed his back again. His crying lowered down a bit, but his body was still trembling in fear.
’We really need to leave now. He can’t stay here anymore.’
[That’s how you should calm a child? It’s effective. I thought those books were making up things.] Ferdinand gazed at Arabella in wonder.
’Geez. Did Raymond not teach him? Or does Raymart calm down much easier?’
Dimo’s panic wasn’t planned but it should be more than enough to show that there was a threat to him in this castle.
It was evident that Dimo feared someone here which was why he did not feel safe even in his own home that he lived in for ten years.
Their plan was skewed a bit, but they can still pull it off.
Rather, they can do it much easier now because of Dimo’s outbursts. They needed to get this over and done with too so they could go to Valeria and let him breathe. He might pass out due to anxiety at this rate.
"Duke, Duchess. What’s going on here? Why is he scared to stay here? Has any of you been physically hurting the child or intimidating him? Was it actually someone from this place inflicting pain on him?" Arabella pretended to be shocked by what just happened and was going to her conclusions due to it.
"I will never hurt my children, Your Majesty," Duke Olivier instantly replied.
"I as well," Sonia seconded. It was true when it came to Brent and Monica. But not to Dimo since she never considered Dimo as her child.
"Then, perhaps you haven’t been watching the people in this castle enough. How come this child is begging me to help him? It’s clear someone here had hurt him before. Or perhaps, you were lax with security and did not notice outsiders coming in?" Arabella glanced at the knights.
They did not dare to reply.
"Dimo, why won’t you tell me what’s going on? Did anyone here hurt you? Were our people the ones who beat you up?" Duke Olivier asked. But Dimo simply kept sobbing.
"It seems he’s too scared to talk," Arabella gently petted Dimo’s hair.
"We don’t have time for any more of this. There’s something else we must do. We need to leave," Ferdinand said as if he was in a hurry.
"Right," Arabella nodded.
"Demetrius, are you sure you want to come with us? We are headed to Valeria. Do you know the Empire?" Arabella asked and everyone from Olivier’s side tensed except for the Duke.
"Yes. Please take me with you, Your Majesty. They will kill me here," Dimo sniffed.
That statement shocked everyone even more except for those who were involved in it.
"Oh, my goodness!" Arabella gasped. "Children don’t lie. Even if they do, it’s noticeable. He doesn’t seem to be lying at all."
[That’s true. The Young Master doesn’t lie. He said ’they.’ Then that means the culprits are in the castle. It seems we have been too lax indeed. How could we have not noticed that people with ill will against the Young Master are lurking here?] The Knight Commander also believed Dimo.
"Your Majesty, it’s alright to take him with us, right?" Arabella pretended to ask permission from her husband.
