Chapter 487: Another Plot
Chapter 487: Another Plot
Internally, the Duke did not want to believe it at first. He wanted to deny it. So, he thought that maybe, Dimo could have misheard.
But the evidence Alwin gathered proved it. There was a record of the Head Butler and Sonia talking about it.
Arabella could vividly recall that he was ashen as he listened, and he looked like he would burst into tears.
The Duke loved Brent and Monica as his own. And he was even willing to continue raising them if only Dimo hadn’t heard everything from Sonia and the Head Butler.
Duke Olivier loved Sonia too which was why he was utterly disappointed, hurt, and furious that the latter had only been fooling him from the start.
It was probably one of the reasons why he could not execute Sonia. He still had lingering feelings for her but no longer wanted to be with her after what she had done.
[Fine. Dimo may not be a monster but someone with magic abilities instead. But that only makes him even more dangerous. If he becomes proficient in magic and grows stronger, what would he do to us?]
Sonia glanced at the Head Butler and the latter nodded.
They were of the same thought. They could not let Dimo live especially not that he could be a powerful magician someday.
[We have to eliminate him while he doesn’t have that much strength yet. He was already able to run away from two groups of mercenaries. How much more when he learns to control that power of his? He would come to kill us.] The Head Butler thought.
It suddenly became a hunt-or-be-hunted kind of thing.
Except, the one they were thinking of as a predator was a lamb in wolf’s skin because of his fire magic and the adult’s tainted mind painting him as bad fruit.
Dimo never even thought of killing Sonia or the Head Butler. He was simply thinking of informing his father about what he heard so his father would be aware.
’See? This is exactly why I can’t let Dimo stay here for now. Not until Duke Olivier resolves these issues and exiles these two,’ Arabella internally sighed.
It must have been fate for them to encounter Dimo on the road and help him.
"Reading those books may indeed be helpful to him. But experimenting on his own, without the supervision of another magician, could be dangerous. Especially since his magic abilities are related to fire," Arabella added.
She knew since she had seen burn scars on Dimo’s face and arms in her previous life. Dimo told her about it too.
"I see. Thank you for enlightening me, Your Majesty. I have just returned from the capital, but it appears I need to bring him there as soon as possible so he can learn from other magicians."
Duke Olivier pretended to reveal his plan.
"Yes, that would be for the best," Arabella agreed and observed Sonia from her peripheral vision.
[What?! How can we eliminate him then? Ah, no... It would be easier to dispose of him in the capital. We can make it seem like he had a fight with someone or that it was done by someone with a grudge against Olivier.]
Sonia’s eyes brightened as she thought of another plot.
"Oh, and after seeing his fire magic when he was emotional, I thought perhaps, he had accidentally hurt someone before. Maybe, there are people with a grudge against him, thinking it was an intentional action when he could not even control it and ended up hurting himself as well," Arabella planted more seeds of doubt.
’My goodness. Maybe I’m better off as a villain after all.’
She knew that Dimo only caused four times.
First, when he was eight. It was because he was fighting with his playmate. It wasn’t intentional but brought on by strong emotions at the time.
But from Alwin and Riley’s investigations, that playmate and his family had already left the duchy and lived in the capital of Loranne.
Second, when he had a fight with his siblings. It was when Monica almost got hurt and Sonia began ignoring him. But she talked in front of other people as if she was treating him as a child of her own.
This could already make the people recall Sonia may have had a grudge against the child even if they would not think of her as the culprit.
Third, when Sonia and the Head Butler had people abduct so they could kill him outside the duchy. Dimo panicked and ended up burning his room as well.
Sonia dismissed that incident as Dimo merely having a nightmare. It could be used as evidence against her or could be discussed as her being negligent and irresponsible which ended up with Dimo going missing.
And lastly, the day when Dimo ran away and went missing. It was when she overheard the truth from Sonia and the Head Butler and how they planned to kill him.
The fire began just outside the Head Butler’s room. Everyone who was in the castle that day and those who came to repair it knew that. It could be used to point out that the Head Butler could somehow be related to why Dimo ran away.
It could be interpreted as the Head Butler simply scolding Dimo or something like that. But what was important was to point out he was involved so he could be investigated by Duke Olivier and the knights later.
[The Young Master was also as shocked as everyone else the first time.] The Knight Commander thought.
He had seen Dimo ever since he was still a baby, so he was concerned more than the others. He was loyal to the Duke too so as the first son, it was already implanted in his mind that Dimo would be the next Duke.
[Hmm... Young Lady Monica almost got hurt when the Young Master caused a fire the second time. But the Duchess wouldn’t possibly hurt the Young Master, right?]
One of the knights glanced at Sonia.
