Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 485: See for Yourselves

Chapter 485: See for Yourselves

"You were lucky that My Empress was with me. She recognized him since they had met in Medeus before. But if it was just me, I would have thought he was a part of a plot to bait me and my knights. I will not be merciful next time," Ferdinand said coldly.

[They have met before?!] Sonia didn’t know.

"We are ever grateful for Your Majesty’s mercy," everyone on Olivier’s side bowed so Dimo did as well.

[Are they truly grateful to see me back?] Dimo wondered and observed their knights and maids.

"Please forgive us for our failure to uphold the agreement."

Duke Olivier and Sonia also apologized for not being able to keep their word regarding the prohibited area not being approached by anyone.

Valeria had paid quite a huge sum to be allowed passage without any disturbances.

"I will let it slide just this once," Ferdinand was strict.

"Our deepest gratitude to Your Majesty."

[It should have been just him. If his wife was not with him, this child would not be back now.] Sonia thought.

[I’ve heard of teleportation magic before but I thought they had to use items like scrolls so they could use it. I don’t see that cloaked man using any. So, he’s the legendary magician of the Dark Emperor?] The Head Butler was wary of Riley who was currently pretending as Alwin.

Riley wore the same cloak and hid his face as Alwin usually does.

After things settled down a bit, and they had time to process it, the knights and maids gawked at Riley when they finally realized, he teleported back and forth in mere seconds.

Some did not even know it was teleportation, but they simply knew it was magic.

[Wait, that cloaked man. He used magic without chanting.]

[That was magic, right? We were so focused on the Young Master that we overlooked it.]

[I thought it was only a rumor that the Emperor of Valeria had a magician.]

[Magic is real?!]

There were even those who did not believe in magic but finally do now after seeing it for themselves.

Loranne also had magicians. But they were in the capital city. Thus, those living far from the capital and rarely visited it or never went there, do not even know magicians do exist.

But seeing a magician wasn’t the only shocking thing they would witness today.

"Demetrius was bruised and battered when we found him unconscious on the road," Arabella informed them.

She held Dimo’s hands since he paled at the memory of being chased and having to run with no direction in the dark night.

"Bruised and battered?! Someone injured my son when he is the heir of this duchy?" Duke Olivier exclaimed. He was doing well in playing his part.

"I was wondering about that too. It may be hard to believe but we have proof," Arabella gestured to Riley.

Sonia and the Head Butler both stiffened and glanced at each other.

[What kind of proof would they have?! I thought they cleaned up everything?]

"Please excuse me," Riley brought out a magic orb with Alwin’s recording of what Dimo looked like that day. He settled it on the table and played it.

"See for yourselves," Arabella encouraged everyone to watch it, but she covered Dimo’s eyes since it was a painful memory for him.

It was when Dimo was still lying on the ground unconscious and the knights slowly and carefully approached him, wary of any traps.

Although Duke Olivier had already seen it before, he still visibly got riled up at the sight of Dimo with a broken arm, swollen eyes, bruised and burnt body, and bleeding feet.

[They could even do this with magic?!] Sonia and the Head Butler gulped. Their knowledge of magic was lacking.

[Who would do this to the Young Master?!] The knights were horrified. Hurting Dimo, especially to that extent was punishable by death.

"Who dares hurt my son like this?!" Duke Olivier growled in a low voice. "He’s but an obedient and upright child."

[If he hadn’t fought them and made things difficult, he wouldn’t have had to suffer like this and died easily.] Sonia felt a bit guilty after seeing how beat up Dimo was.

’Why should he willingly accept death so you can steal his family’s riches and hard work?’ Arabella almost rolled her eyes.

"Oh, my goodness! How could people do this to you? He must have encountered bandits," Sonia cried once again.

’No wonder she was able to fool Duke Olivier. Her tears flow easily at her command.’

Sonia intentionally mentioned bandits to make it look like Dimo was hurt by lawless people.

But bandits would have taken Dimo as a hostage for ransom so they could get a huge sum of money instead of hurting him that much.

[But we have been scouring the entire duchy ever since we learned the Young Master went missing but we didn’t encounter any bandits.] One of the knights who was left in the duchy for guard duty thought.

[The day he burned his room, the Young Master did say that there were people trying to abduct him. But Her Grace said he must have had a nightmare and mistook it for reality, so it was not investigated.]

The maids there looked at each other but remained silent since they could not interrupt when there were guests.

"Bandits? It seems we need to cleanse the duchy of lawless elements. Knight Commander, have the knights been slacking off lately?" Duke Olivier said, and the knights stiffened.

[Not at all. But it is indeed a failure on the our part to have not notice such people were lingering in the duchy.]

"Our deepest apologies for not spotting them before any of this happened," the Knight Commander and the three Olivier knights allowed into the room all bowed. "We will search even the mountains and caves to find them."

[That’s right. The knights can take the blame since it was their job to guard the whole duchy. Now all we need is to find a way to silence Dimo.]

Sonia and the Head Butler were both relieved that Duke Olivier thought of it as the knights slacking off in their job.
