Chapter 484: Planting the Seeds of Doubt

Chapter 484: Planting the Seeds of Doubt

[I knew Her Grace had been ignoring the Young Master ever since the fire incident when he had a fight with Young Lady Monica. But why did she glance at the Head Butler like that?]

The knights prayed for their observations and assumptions to be wrong.

[Why is he alive and well?!]

Sonia gawked at Dimo. It puzzled her that Dimo even looked so much healthier than he ever had since she became the Duchess.

[I thought they were able to injure him to the point he would have died anyway even if they didn’t chase him?! Those imbeciles!]

Sonia paid them quite a lot, so she was irked that they were not able to do their work properly.

[If they had done their job before he was able to reach that road, this wouldn’t be happening... No, wait, this isn’t the time for this. I must pretend I was worried about him.]

Sonia froze when she recalled there were a lot of eyes on them right now.

She immediately began acting and cried as if she was truly relieved as she gazed at Dimo. She acted like she didn’t run to Dimo since they had important guests.

’She’s quite the good actress. Look at those tears. If only she didn’t react differently at first,’ Arabella was rather amazed at how Sonia was able to make herself tear up so easily.

[How can she cry like this while feeling exactly the opposite? I felt her strong ill-will towards the child.] Ferdinand stared at Sonia.

"Oh, where are my manners? My apologies, I was elated to see my son again," Duke Olivier said after acing an act of meeting Dimo for the first time after he went missing so he was emotional.

Dimo was doing very well too.

The Duke rose to return to his seat and held Dimo’s hand. Meaning, that Dimo should sit with him beside Sonia.

But Dimo freed his hand from his father and fearfully stared at Sonia.

[What’s with that look?! He wouldn’t expose us now, would he?!] Sonia was petrified.

"Dimo, it’s so good to see you again. I was so worried about how you were doing. Come and sit here so I can get a good look at you," Sonia patted the space beside her, attempting to intimidate and order Dimo so he would shut his mouth.

It was a reminder that in this household, she was the Duchess and Dimo was just a child.

But Dimo did not obey. He pursed his lips and glared at Sonia and the Head Butler.

"Oh my, did the journey here, exhaust you? I’ll send you to your room so you can rest," Sonia made a reason to get Dimo out of here.

But the instant she rose, Dimo ran towards Riley and hid behind his back.

It was supposed to be an act, but Dimo was truly terrified of Sonia and ended up tightly gripping Riley’s cloak. The fear was evident in his face and body language.

[She’s afraid of Her Grace?! What does this mean? Did she do something to the Young Master while we were away? Was that why he ran away?] Duke Olivier’s Knight Commander frowned.

"Dimo? What are you doing? That’s rude to our guest," Sonia said in a warning tone.

If they didn’t know what was going on, it would seem like Sonia was simply telling Dimo to behave since they had important guests.

But to those who knew the truth, it was clear that Sonia was trying to be alone with Dimo so she could intimidate him to be mum about what he knew.

"Come, let’s go to your room. I’ll have your favorite hot chocolate prepared so you can sleep well," Sonia baited. But Dimo further hid behind Riley’s back instead.

[Aunt Sonia never even helped me sleep even when I had nightmares. She’s acting all nice because everyone is here.]

Dimo was not tempted in the least bit since he knew Sonia was never that nice to him.

"Let him be, we have guests," Duke Olivier reminded. "Let’s speak with him later."

Sonia wanted to continue since she was desperate to be alone with Dimo and intimidate him. But debating with the Duke in front of royalty from another kingdom would not look good.

"My apologies for his behavior. He is usually a respectful and obedient child."

Even though she apologized, Sonia made it look like Dimo was the one who had a problem.

"It’s alright. He’s a child, after all," Arabella faked a smile.

Sonia was relieved, thinking she managed to not look bad.

"Why won’t you come and sit here so you won’t get exhausted standing there," Arabella patted the space beside her and Dimo obediently did as planned.

[He went so easily. But it doesn’t seem to be out of fear.] The knights noted.

[What is she trying to pull? Is she testing us after all?!] Sonia gulped.

With Dimo choosing to sit beside Arabella and looking more relaxed, it became clear to everyone in the room that there must be a reason why the child stiffened and paled when Sonia invited him to sit beside her.

That was exactly what Arabella wanted which was why they needed to make this play.

They had to plant the seeds of doubt among the people in the mansion and the Duke’s trusted people so it wouldn’t be too sudden when the Duke revealed Sonia and the Head Butler’s schemes.

That way, it would be easier to believe, and they wouldn’t think that the Dimo or the Duke were making up things.

"My deepest gratitude for your generosity in taking care of my son even though he seems to have wandered to the prohibited area," Duke Olivier played his part.

"You were lucky that My Empress was with me. She recognized him since they had met in Medeus before. But if it was just me, I would have thought he was a part of a plot to bait me and my men. I will not be merciful next time," Ferdinand said coldly.
