Chapter 449: Strengthened Their Bond Instead
"Arabella, you are the one I kept encountering so many times," Ferdinand exclaimed. "I still cannot recall how many of your reincarnations I have met before. But I am certain. Those ladies in the memories you saw, they were your past reincarnations."
Arabella didn’t need to say it anymore. Ferdinand was able to tell.
[Wait! I just told her that I don’t like seeing her suffer but I made her suffer all those times!] Ferdinand turned pale at the realization.
After all, in those reincarnations, he had rejected her love repeatedly. He did not even understand what she meant when she first confessed. He did not understand what love meant, nor did he want a wife or children.
"F-Ferdinand?" Arabella gasped when Ferdinand kneeled in front of her all of a sudden.
"Arabella, I’m sorry for making you suffer all those times. I swear I will treat you so much better and cherish you in this life. I will not fail to protect you this time either. I’m so sorry for everything I made you go through in the past."
This was exactly why she was not supposed to tell him about it.
"Ferdinand, please stop kneeling and sit beside me," she patted the space beside her.
[She cannot forgive me? Ah, of course. I had been so terrible to her. How could I have treated her so coldly?!]
"It’s not that I cannot forgive you. It’s because I have no right to do so. I am not my previous reincarnations. My soul may be the same with them, but I am an entirely different person. Whatever happened back then was in the past. That was between you and them. I cannot forgive you for their sake since it was them who experienced whatever you are asking forgiveness for. Every reincarnation was a different person. We simply had the same soul," Arabella clarified.
She understood that much after seeing all those memories. All of her previous reincarnations had various personalities. They may have shared similarities but had more differences.
Ellie was Ellie. Ara was Ara.
That goes for her too. She was her own person. She had different goals and motivations from all her past reincarnations. They may have common goals in something but that doesn’t mean they were the same. Every single one of them had their own personalities.
They had different names for a reason. They only shared the same soul, but they were different from each other.
However, they did seem to carry some of their previous reincarnation’s greatest regrets and unconsciously chased upon them.
Ellie was lonely in her mountain and seemed to regret not being able to live with Ferdinand much longer when she died. Thus, in her next reincarnation, she made Ferdinand live with her for quite a while. But Ara fell in love with Ferdinand in a romantic way all on her own.
What Ferdinand and Ellie had between them was just friendship. It evolved to love in Ara.
Meanwhile, Ara was bitter about her unrequited love for Ferdinand when she died. Thus, in her reincarnation as Eleanor, she searched for love. And when she found it, she reveled in it and enjoyed the love and attention her fiancé showered her. Something she never had with Ferdinand. And she disliked Ferdinand at first sight because when Ara died, she fully believed he had fooled and abandoned her.
Because Eleanor died without getting married to her beloved, her next reincarnation got married early on and had children with her lover as Eleanor once dreamed. She accidentally met Ferdinand and fell in love with him too, but she still chose her husband and family over him.
"Right. Of course. But I still want to apologize to you since you saw those memories. You know what terrible things I have done to your past selves," Ferdinand lamented.
[Damn it! Why was I so foolish in the past? I wouldn’t have minded getting married several times if I knew it was her. I would have reciprocated her love and treated her better. How could I make her go through all those humiliations? Why was I so idiotic back then?!]
"Get married several times?" Arabella tilted her head and smiled.
[Why does her smile this time, terrifying?] Ferdinand flinched.
"I mean, only if it’s you of course," he added. Then he continued apologizing to her again. "I’m deeply sorry you had to see all those memories."
"Fine. If you do not stop kneeling like that, I will never forgive you," Arabella said, and Ferdinand instantly rose.
"Do you forgive me now?"
"What is there to forgive? You are treating me well in this life and I’m thankful for that," she gave him a peck on the cheek. She felt so much better after speaking with him about those memories.
"You are too kind and forgiving that sometimes it worries me," Ferdinand commented. "Ah, but please do be merciful to me."
"And you think too highly of me that it worries me too," Arabella countered. "I’m not that much of a goody-two-shoes. Didn’t I already tell you about this?"
Arabella felt so light after that, so she decided to brave her sleep and Ferdinand promised to stay beside her until she was up.
Another memory was revealed to her and this time, Ferdinand seemed to like her too. Thus, she proposed marriage to him, but he rejected her because he had never thought of having a family of his own. He did not understand the concept of love either.
Arabella told Ferdinand about it when she woke up and he dissed his younger self once again.
She kept having a glimpse of those dreams and this time, she told Ferdinand about it once she woke up.
Thus, despite the unexpected hurdle, their honeymoon in Estrella was a success. Getting those dreams ended up strengthening their bond even more instead of making them distant from each other or breaking them apart.
However, just when Arabella thought everything was finally as it should be, there was another unexpected problem they had to face.
