Chapter 428: His Savior

"This beast is known as the King of the Northern Islands that had been uninhabited for long due to the threat he posed. But finally, we have captured him," someone announced, and everyone cheered.

He continued telling their "heroic tale" of defeating and capturing a legendary beast.

According to the giant’s tale, Ferdinand finally wandered away from his abode, and it was why they finally had the chance to capture him while the terrain wasn’t as cold and rough as the mountains of the Northern Islands.

Everyone there was delighted and celebrated the news. No one pitied the bleeding dragon since to them; he was just a dangerous beast.

Arabella was horrified as they brought something in a box and showed it off to everyone.

It was Ferdinand’s wings. It had tears here and there that seemed to be from gigantic claws. Some parts had turned purplish and black.

Ferdinand finally reacted and growled at the sight.

They said they would display his wings at the highest part of their walls to brag show passers-by their incredible feat and ward off attackers.

And they planned not just his wings but also his whole head.

"Damn bastards!" Arabella couldn’t help but curse again as everyone was cheering.

"Ferdinand, can’t you transform to any other form? You need to leave this place! They are going to kill you," she desperately tried to talk to him, but he merely closed his eyes.

If he could, he would have done it already before they cut his wings.

Arabella wanted to pass out on the spot or just wake up from this nightmare when they began torturing him.

"Stop! Stop, hurting him! Stop!" she screamed so many times, but no one heard him. She could only watch in tears as they made him experience all sorts of pain in front of everyone.

Ferdinand received all the torture they were giving him without making a loud cry of pain as if to maintain a semblance of dignity and a way to say he would not surrender no matter what pain they gave him.

"As you can see, we have injured him so many times, but he kept regenerating. Tomorrow, we will cut off his head and share his meat with everyone," the giant said, and Arabella staggered.

She felt like she had passed out from all this or awakened from this nightmare for a second but was forcefully returned.

’They were planning to eat Ferdinand?!!’

She learned that there was a belief that the King of Northern Islands, the beast residing there for thousands of years had incredible regenerative abilities and eternal life. That those who partake in his flesh may be able to get it as well. Thus, they planned to eat him.

’What kind of barbarism is this?!!’ Arabella felt like she might throw up.

How dare they even think of eating Ferdinand?! A powerful primordial dragon. He might be in a weakened state, but she was sure he was still so strong.

’Ferdinand experienced something this horrible?!’

When the torture finally ended, they left Ferdinand chained in the town square so everyone could do with him as they please. More torture from the people came until the night came, and everyone left except for those assigned to guard him.

Arabella tried talking to him, telling him all sorts of ideas to escape but his eyes remained closed. She realized he was trying to heal himself when she noticed that the smallest wounds were beginning to regenerate.

The other injuries were covered with ice to prevent more bleeding. However, the part where his wings were cut continued to bleed. No ice formed to stop the bleeding. She surmised the giants used something to prevent him from regrowing or healing it.

Arabella then remained silent and watched him heal his wounds little by little. She just stayed there with him in the dark night.

It was a moonless and starless night. Thick dark clouds covered the sky so the moon and the stars were not visible.

After several hours passed, Arabella gasped when the two giants guarding Ferdinand suddenly fell to the ground. But they didn’t make the loud thud they should have made. There was no sound.

Then she saw someone cloaked, another giant judging from the size.

Ferdinand’s eyes finally opened.

"Shh! I’m not here to hurt you. I am here to help you escape," said the cloaked giant. It was a woman’s voice.

Arabella perked up that. There was someone with a heart!

Ferdinand seemed to understand the giant since he didn’t make any sound.

The cloaked giant where his chains were attached, and her hands glowed and melted them.

’She used magic!’ Arabella recognized.

"I will remove these later if you promise not to cause a ruckus," the cloaked giant said, and Ferdinand blinked once.

The cloaked giant did not free Ferdinand from his restraints, but she healed all his injuries until they closed off. Only the part where his wings were cut was not healed.

"Those bastards. They used a curse so you can’t heal or regrow your wings. No wonder you were not able to leave," the lady muttered. She chanted a series of spells and the bleeding finally stopped. She used magic to clean up all of Ferdinand’s blood to leave no traces.

"We are leaving this place. Don’t make a sound," the cloaked giant reiterated, and Ferdinand blinked again.

The cloaked giant uttered something and all of a sudden, they were levitated.

’Flight magic?’ Arabella wondered. And for someone reason, she was dragged along with Ferdinand as the giant went somewhere.

It was dark so Arabella could not see what was below them but they were very high up in the air since the torches from the lights from the giants’ village grew so small.

After a few minutes, they returned to the ground. They were at the mouth of a cave.

"You will stay inside this cave to remain in hiding while you recuperate. I will bring you some food whenever I can. But remember not to make a sound or they will find you," the cloaked giant instructed.

Ferdinand was levitated by magic again and brought into the deepest part of the cave.
