Chapter 427: His Captors [Bonus Chapter]

Arabella wanted to wake up and stop seeing Ferdinand in such a state. But how could she ever turn a blind eye to this? Ferdinand was suffering all alone in such a dark place. She did not want to leave him alone here.

And if this was a message about the future, it meant she needed to know as much about this as possible.

Or was it something from the past?

Ferdinand said he was an ice dragon a long time ago. So, this was the past, right? He would not suffer like this in the future, right?

But even if it was indeed in the past, it was painful and difficult seeing it. She didn’t want him suffering like this.

She wished this was nothing but a random made-up dream with no shred of truth. That he didn’t suffer like this in the past nor had to in the future.

Arabella kept pacing around him, searching for a way to free him, but there was none.

If he could break free, he would have done so already too. It must be because he was still bleeding a lot. He was in a greatly weakened state.

Ferdinand seemed to follow her movement with his gaze so she wondered if he could see her. He probably could. But he didn’t seem to recognize her.

Probably exhausted, he closed his eyes and ignored her as she did her futile attempts trying to find a way to free him.

But after a few minutes, he suddenly rumbled. His eyes fluttered open and this time, his pupils were a thin slit. He was on alert.

She followed his gaze, and he was looking at the entrance where she came from earlier. Then there came loud thuds. It made even the ground vibrate.

His captors were coming!

And what did they bring with them to be making such loud sounds?

She gulped and nervously waited for them to arrive.

’T-they’re huge!!’ she was shocked to see four gargantuan people clad in armor. The loud thuds were from their footsteps.

’Are they giants?’

That must be it. With their population both almost wiped out, there was no reason for Ferdinand to be in a fight this grim with the giants in the future.

She recalled Ferdinand saying that in the past, he provoked giants a lot so he could fight with them.

Was this indeed one of those times? He provoked them and lost horribly to the point they cut his wings?!

Or was this already among the times he was trying to die?

She glanced at him, and his eyes didn’t look like the eyes of someone who wanted to end his life. He eyed the giants ferociously and with fury. He wouldn’t be this alarmed if this was among those times.

From Ferdinand’s description when she asked what Rendell was, she thought they were bigger than this. These ones were just 20 to 26 feet tall. She thought they would be several meters bigger. Maybe, these were the smaller ones in the group.

Still, they were so much bigger than her. And in this size, Ferdinand wasn’t that huge for them.

The giants entered and opened the cell.

Ferdinand growled as they approached but he was muzzled and chained so he couldn’t do anything. He seemed to try to freeze them since the frost increased. But it didn’t work due to his weakened state.

"No need to fight. Or haven’t you learned your lesson?" one of the giants snickered in mockery.

"Bastard! Stay away from Ferdinand," Arabella screamed but it was clear they could not see nor hear her.

Ferdinand growled in response to the giant, but it was low due to the muzzle.

The giants laughed at him, and Arabella glared. She wished she could do something to at least give them a little bit of pain even if she was so small compared to them.

They pulled onto the chains and tried to make Ferdinand follow them. But he refused to move.

"Come now. It’s time to go out. You haven’t seen the sun in so long. Right?" One of the giants tempted.

"Does it even understand you? It’s a beast," another said.

"If it doesn’t move, let’s just make it," the fourth one said and pulled out a huge mace.

Ferdinand’s eyes flickered toward the mace and made another rumbling sound. He clearly recognized it. He had been hit by it before and it was probably among the causes of the injuries on his body.

"Indeed. Most of his injuries had already healed again anyway," the others agreed.

’What do they mean healed?! Are they blind? He is still bleeding a lot! And does that mean they had given more injuries to him before and it was worse than this?!’ Arabella fumed. She felt the urge to kill people.

Ferdinand was clearly in pain as he began to move and followed the giants. They ignored it and made him go faster.

Arabella clenched her fists and followed them in silence. They were treating Ferdinand like a captured beast from the wild and she loathed it.

And the fact that the tunnel was too long didn’t help at all.

After walking along the dark tunnel for a while, they finally reached the exit. A huge gate was opened, and they were finally greeted by the light of day.

There were a lot more armored giants waiting for them outside and they cheered at the sight of their captive.

They were led to another gate with more deafening and infuriating cheers everywhere. The gate was opened, and Arabella realized they were in a village. It seemed to be a military base since almost everyone was wearing armor.

She grimaced as everyone was delighted by the sight of the weakened dragon. Her beloved Ferdinand was in so much suffering. Yet everyone was rejoicing.

Ferdinand was made to go to the center of the village where there was a huge open space, probably the town square where everyone could gather.

As if making him walk all the way there in such a state was not enough, once they reached the town square, he was displayed to the public. And everyone was mocking him.
